When this movie came out I bought the soundtrack on cassette because I thought the U2 song on it was cool after seeing the video on MTV. I kept it in my Walkman all the time and played it constantly. This was my favorite track on the tape because it sounded so dark and unsettling to me. It felt like it could only exist in a nightmare.

Same! Just curious, how old were you? I was 11 or 12. The song felt greasy and raw and unsettling. It made me feel weird, but I liked it. Lol

Danny Pascoe I'm not sure about Nick Cave but he's a little weird. After I heard this song I bought one of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds' albums and there was nothing on it that I liked. I guess I shouldn't say he's weird but from that comment you said he made about selling out with this song I guess he's not the "mainstream-music" or "pop enthusiast" kind of guy.

Nick never said anything of the sort, he went on to add many songs to soundtracks, like Scream Hellboy and various tv shows.

A great song from a great film. By 1995, Forever was my favorite Batman film at this time. This soundtrack was awesome! Batman forever had the misfortune of being tide to the horrible Batman and Robin! However the sound track to that film is pretty good. History has mocked this film, but it was very Good and a box office success.

Nick hated this song. He was approached to write something for the Batman forever soundtrack; he refused. But his creative energies (and the money they were offering) got the better of him and he phoned the guy back 20 mins later and said, "Ok, its written. It's a pile of shit, but it's written." In a later interview he said, " I can confidently say I've always made the music I wanted to; I've never done something just for money. Except for that stupid Batman thing." Truth is, Nick Cave at his worst is still better than most, its IMO an awesome song lol

This is one of the great forgotten contributions to Batman media. I can’t think of anything musical which is related to Batman which is both a great song and a poetic tribute to some aspect of the Batman mythos. The symbol of the light as a beacon of hope and the way Cave paints a perfectly wretched image of Gotham and its denizens makes this an incredible statement on the world of the character. It outdoes the movie with which it is associated in addressing the source material, and it features a vignette of sorts which could easily be adapted onto the comic book page, maybe for something like a Batman Black & White collection.
