He just “slaps” his forehand sometimes and it looks lazy but it still works! A great talent
@rtmordecai13 жыл бұрын
His “slap” isn’t a significant deviation in form from his normal shot, but his specific mechanics make his “slap” look different because of how he adjust his dip and launch into the foreword motion. It’s not a shorter stroke it just seems different.

He is really tall and lanky- plus he loads in any direction -for him to have huge back swing or gives more room for error- low toss, small but technically sound forehand- racquet face FACING DOWN before contact- only way to get top spin
@jflow56012 жыл бұрын
I think kyrgios has a forehand swing that helps to avoid ulnar wrist pain/injury. Unlike many players, he has no transition from outward facing racket to flat position when he takes back and lowers his racket before starting the forward motion .. such a transition tends to have some element of twist on the wrist (if the forward motion is at all started while the racket is being lowered). Instead he starts out flat and stays flat until he flips going forward... So while I don't care for the way kyrgios behaves on the court, I may adopt his forehand swing to avoid twisting my wrist...

At normal speed it almost looks like he's hitting the ball with an impossibly oblique racquet angle, but here we see the angle quickly changes from almost flat with the ground to a high angle. The backswing is quite efficient that way, less swing resistance. Also note how late he lets go of the racquet with his other hand, which seems to facilitate that shorter-length elbow swing.

I kind of appreciate that his forehand look a little bit different each time. It’s a change from the hyper efficient footwork of Fed whose forehand seems to look identical everywhere on the court. Not to put either one down but it’s interesting to watch and compare.

That inconsistency is why he'll never win a slam. Prob will never get to a final either.

@@GershonBenYitzhak I realize that and he’s kind of a nut of course, but it is definitely a demonstration of impressive athleticism. It just seems more like how the sport is usually played at various levels, you know? I loved watching Federer but it’s like watching Michael Jordan clips: they’re so unbelievably graceful, practiced, and efficient that it sort of has nothing to do with what the sport looks like for most people. Watching Kyrgios is like an extreme version of when you take that super athletic friend out to play who was a high school basketball or soccer star but doesn’t play tennis that much and then watching them negotiate the sport in interesting if haphazard ways.

At normal speed it looks like a modern forehand, but if you look at the grip and how it ends, it's more like and old forehand. He needs to do a lot with the wirst to make de tops spin comes. I don't understand how he never went injured by this.

Also, with this kind of strike you can get awesomes shots, but forget about regularity on long points. For example, it's very hard to play on clay with this kind of shots.

He is so loose all the time - he gets the spin from when he turns his torso- the racquet head is facing down to the court- that’s #1 for top spin before contact.

I dont think he is wristing the ball. At contact his wrist is in the lock position like djokovic,fed, etc. He using the shoulder and body the wrist is just going for a ride. It wouldn't hurt it. @carelngounoue20082 жыл бұрын
He's a really good tennis player but in terms of technique, especially on the forehand, i wouldn't try copying it. His backswing is pretty big and he races his elbow so high, which can mess up the timing on the forehand for any other player and make you struggle with fast balls. Notice how Kyrgios can't do much on the forehand when a deep and fast ball comes to that side. He can only absorb the ball back on court, compared to guys like Federer, Nadal, Alcaraz who all have the ability to block a fast ball back on court with the exact same pace. That is because all three players have a much shorter backswing compared to Nick, which allows these players to get their racket behind the incoming ball a lot quicker.
@carelngounoue20082 жыл бұрын
I've tried implementing some of the mechanics on Nick's forehand into mine, and the results weren't great. Dealing with slow balls wasn't a problem but when the ball came fast to the forehand side I was constantly late and I would find myself framing lots of balls, it simply took too long to drop the racket and get behind the ball, so just to say it's a better idea to try an make your backswing shorter so you don't struggle with timing.
@ozsa31562 жыл бұрын
I dont think this is true. Both Nadal and Federer has very similar backswing timing at the moment.

Do you play better now ? For lanky people - I really think this is less prone to error and more versatile. He has all the elements of a forehand the create topspin and power a lot faster - loading on any leg, with a small bent arm - so that and his low toss on serve work well for efficiency and consistency
@commpas39182 жыл бұрын
He hits the ball too close to his body. That said, if he can extend the distance his swing hits the ball, he'll get obviously good results.

TBH, a little conservative. He doesn't come through the contact point enough that's why the ball doesn't penetrate off the bounce. This is why Nick has never been known to be an imposing baseliner. If there's anything to learn from Nick, it's his feel for the subtle nuances of the game. Copy that, not his mechanics.
