I’m in the US and I don’t blame voters. I blame the politicians who behave just like this on all sides and justify or defend it when stuff like this happens. There’s a real lack of shame these days and that behavior from our leaders (or their fellows that defend it) influences others. In turn, virtues we used to admire and expect, like honor or leadership, aren’t rewarded anymore - just power.

This is one of the reasons I am for the smallest government possible. People always want gov't to be the solution and it balloons to have them in charge of everything but you are literally handing over more and more of your moeny for them to control the way they want.
@ricksturm681611 ай бұрын
It's not the size of Government that dictates their ability to enact and enforce policy. That is data collection and the systems behind them. So if you want the Government to control your life less, make data gathering more complex. Counter-intuitively, the larger the size of the Government, the harder it is to manage, and the more democratized it is. If you have 1 person in charge of the whole country, you have to bribe one person, if you have 100,000 people in charge of the country, that is a much harder beast to satiate.

Small government, we have been told that for over twenty years, and the only thing that has achieved is a tripling of the rate of homelessness, and a lack mental health care. It is true that in every political sphere, there are individuals who exploit their authority and engage in misconduct. Some notable examples include Mike Pezzullo, Peter Dutton, Angus Taylor, and Barnaby Joyce. Surprisingly, 60 Minutes has not conducted any investigations into these corrupt entities, despite the fact that their actions have cost taxpayers billions of dollars and still holding jobs that paid by tax payers. The reasons behind this lack of scrutiny are questionable.

@ricksturm681611 ай бұрын
You can be wrong many times then. If you have politicians not getting paid, then they have to get money from somewhere, so they'll be encouraged to make more shady deals to put food on their tables. If you are suggesting that only people who can afford to go without payment should be politicians, their needs and wants are completely different than everyday people and they won't make decisions that are in the best interests of all Australians.
