Class golf swing from Nickie, he played the AmEx WGC in 02 when they came to Mt Juliet in Co. Kilkenny, and he was great to watch. Went onto the range he was hitting all his shots right into the same spots. Looked like the had total control over the ball, he tied 15th so not a bad outing against the worlds top guys. Great Analysis as per usual Wayne.

Wayne, good stuff as always. The key to getting that right arm action on the downswing is having the elbow facing out at address and then on the backswing rotating the forearm down / under . Then on the downswing you can return the elbow into the right side and be bang on the money. You can really notice how much NP has his right elbow out in the face on view with the driver.

I love that hip action on the down swing. I have to think there's a little bit of Hogan in that. It seems though that it's hard to get rotation while maintaining that lateral hip action. I wonder if there's a consistent way to measure what seems like the tradeoff between the lateral hip action vs. rotational action.

Re the hip lateral vs. rotation. Your legs are fixed length, so the more you slide, the less you can rotate, and the more you rotate the less slide. If you do both, you would probably lose your balance or have to contort yourself stay upright. So the best cure for too much lateral slide is more early hip rotation. But that's hard to do for many people.

so prices distance dilemma is sorta like Faldo, i think Faldos situation was just an "oh well, i'm being outdriven, i guess i'll quit the tour now", it seems like he took the lazy way out

Price was maybe the greatest striker of his day. More consistent than Norman and much longer than Faldo. Even Faldo acknowledged him as a superb striker and player. Very very consistent with a penetrating trajectory to his longer shots. He was a magnificent driver of the ball. It's interesting to see how compact his back swing is, no big wide wind up like Norman or jack, just a simple hinge and turn. Yet he had a ton of speed and control too. He was a wonderful natural athlete and I'd say a very strong individual physically. If he had putted like Faldo did in the majors in the late 80's, he would have matched Faldo's record. He is something of an underrated player now.
