I know this is old footage but I really enjoyed listening to Nick. Everything he said is relevant to today and very helpful. Great Stuff!

I love these Playing Lessons. I wish Golf Channel would do these more than the Academy Series it currently does. They are fun to watch. Thanks for the post!!

learned more from these honest lessons than the technical gurus.

yeah...I miss the Golf Channel days from the late 90s-early 2000s, they actually had shows that were fun to watch instead of friggin reality shows you see now.

One of the best things about YT is being able to forward past Rich Lerner.

Nick, you published an article in Golf Magazine over 20 years ago called, "How to Hit it Miles Down the Middle." Do you happen to have that published anywhere today? It really helped me back then and I'd like to re-read it to help me today.

Wow, yardage I can relate to. Nowadays, 169 would be a wedge, 190 = 8 iron. Golf has definetly changed on the professional level.
@user-wh6sp6st8s4 жыл бұрын
169 isnt a wedge. Guys like Dustin and Rory are not the rule. They are the exception. I'm a professional and my wedge goes 135-140
@jamesfitzgerald66363 жыл бұрын
It’s not an 8 Iron It’s really a six loft!
@Echo-mz6tz Жыл бұрын
@@user-wh6sp6st8sAlso the wedge Rory hits 169 is an exception (hit 95 percent with wind behind and warm PGA tour Conditions) his stock good swing Is probably 155

Today's 9 iron loft was Nicks 8 iron loft, they do hit it farther, but loft and technology has changed.

Nick should of won more majors, he dominated the likes of Norman and Faldo for 2 or 3 years.

What the heck has happened to the golf ball and equipment for Professionals? 4-iron 190, 6-iron 169yds....now you have 4-iron 235 (or DJ 260), and 6 iron 200 +.
@austinlang45405 жыл бұрын
wreckim loft is down on clubs. I’m at plus handicap. I hit 7 iron stock 177 can make it go 183 I have ap2s I went up to Canada and while I was there I hit some new Taylormade irons and the 7 iron was going 202. I can’t hit a 7 202 any day of the week. So the 7 iron is now lofted like an old 5 iron. And the face is super hot. It’s comes to a point where that’s pointless. I think technology has gone too far in that direction

I don’t think Tiger would have been as great as he was had it not been for Nicks advice to him when he played with Tiger early on in Tigers career when Nick shot two 66’s and Tiger struggled. Tiger asked him after the first day “how many pins you shoot at today Nick?” Nick replied “one”, Tiger “ONE!! I went for all of em man!” They had the same conversation the next day and they’d both shot similar. Tiger came away from that tournament with a completely different mindset.

Damn putting. He'd still be competitive if his putting didn't leave him.

Meanwhile on a Saturday morning "Weekend William" decides that hitting a 6 iron 165 yards is not the macho thing to do, so he pulls out his 9 iron and end up 10 yards left of the green. Eventually he walks away with a bogey.......
