Many of my fave rockers from the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s are/were all intellectuals. They may not seem it onstage, but if you read about how they came up with lyrics or their thoughts on various topics, you will find out many of them are "closet" intellectuals :)

I'm still thrown off by that fact that Nick's voice is so deep. It doesn't fit with his image but it's so cool ☺️

That's because he is a real guy :) In the 70s and 80s, guys having long hair and looking effeminate was a major attractiveness factor to women at that time.

I love his voice. It’s always a bit startling since he’s a rather small guy and so feminine looking. Despite being the youngest he seems like the oldest. I love how he’s so deadpan too, he’s really funny sometimes.

(@1:53) "And, - What Sort Of Things Made You Want To Take Pictures?" Why, didn't you know, Paula, - It's because "GENTLEMAN TAKE POLAROIDS"- ?- !! Maybe You should've asked DAVID SYLVIAN first-!!😁 I used to think it coincidence, that Nick and David looked similar. Until about a year ago, that is!!, ... when I chanced upon an old article, where the journalist stated that Rhodes alluded to admiring Sylvians' style, and his groups 80's music,- and had all their albums, etc.!! Coincidence? (Hah!😄 ...in the immortal words of Arnold Schwarzenegger, "Don't Be Redicculous"!! - there's no such thing!!) Paula, - The reason Nick takes pictures - OBVIOUSLY, - is because David does!😄 (Talk About Girls On Film!!🤣)

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, as is ugliness. That's the thing about art - it doesn't have to look aesthetically pleasing to be interesting. I took several art classes in college. The teachers wanted us to work more on conveying a mood, feeling, theme, etc rather than try to make everything perfect and pretty. Although I prefer pretty art, but I can appreciate art that is not pretty if it looks interesting and conveys an interesting meaning.

Japan and David Sylvian are "okay", but they didn't have the talent or VISION and THAT is why they never made it big like Duran Duran. I try listening to Japan's music and it is almost all discordant wavering synth sounds. Maybe it sounds better if you are strung-out or something.
@SleepMeditationandAffirmations8 жыл бұрын
Matthew Oakes Are you serious?! Japan music after their Glam Rock faze is BRILLIANT. You have to have a dim view of music to think other wise. Their music is timeless and was ahead of its time.

Japan was big. But Duran Duran are now legendary for having lasted 40 years and sold more than 5 times more albums than Japan ever did. Every singer and band look up to their mentors. Even the Beatles did that. So no point boasting about Japan like they are legendary. They were good but they did not last. So that by itself tells you they did not master the art of sustainability such that Duran Duran and The Rolling Stones have!
