Nick Saban leaving Alabama: Kalen DeBoer and Dan Lanning will be targets l Pac-12 Podcast

As a fan and OSU student back when HC Jonathan Smith left, the news was crushing. Washington now knows how Oregon State feels...mostly. Washington at least had the security of a conference, they at least made it to the national championship, and so far, many of their top players have not entered the transfer portal the day after the departure. On top of that, Oregon State has had many decommits because of the coach leaving. I haven't seen that yet. Oregon State is the FBS team that got stiffed the most and a close second being Washington State.

Spencer, I can agree with you on this one. It’s F….ing Alabama! Saben’s coaching tree is wide and deep. I guarantee they are calling Kirby Smart and every other SEC coach who has been his assistant in the past and know Bama. (I don’t think they will get Smart but they will try). Now Lanning is a target for the upcoming high profile vacancy one whoever leaves their good SEC gig. Deboer is a Midwest guy. He is not going to Bama after two good years. My guess is he stays at Washington to see how the Big10 treats the new programs. Just my opinion as a Fresno State and long time college football fan (I remember when Bear Bryant retired)

KVAL CBS and Sports Illustrated are reporting that Dan is in Alabama and the university is set to make an announcement in less than 72 hours...I knew something was up when ESecPN had Lanning on after Saban turned down the gig...damn - first the Pac 12 implodes and now this...I've been a Duck fan (and Pac 8,10,12) since the 1980s and this just blows...damn...

It takes a couple years of success to pull back those WA state 4 and 5 stars. DeBoer just flipped a WA top 2025 linebacker to UW. They look at him as an anchor to pull in more. UW has gone back to their winning formula for selecting a coach. Don't go with coordinators like Lambright, Gilbertson or Lake. Or retreads like Willingham or Neiheisel. Find a head coach at a lower level with a track record of success, that brings his entire staff and stays for and extended period, like James and Peterson.

Nope to the Washington coach. That one is out ! Sweeney is out at Clemson that one is simple he has a contract to not go to bama. Not even a consideration. Kiffin is a no because I think he’s content at what’s he’s developing in ole miss. Sark will get paid to stay. That leaves us with the obvious. Lanning….

Bama has a spotty record replacing legends. There were hits and misses between Bear Bryant and Nick Sabin including WSU's Mike Price and his drinking problem. I never dreamed Nick Sabin would accomplish more than his relative Lou Sabin who coached the Buffalo Bills. I actually thought the Michigan State job would doom his career at the time.

Some have even thrown their names around for the Seahawks. Crazy seeing both Saban and Carroll leaving(for different reasons) on the same day. I would think Lanning or Sark would be a better fit in Alabama then DeBoer. Though Lanning is a steep buy out at $20 mil, DeBoer is also a $12 mil buy out.

I really hope dan stays in oregon hopefully bama looks at kalen not recuiting as well as dan as a non issue because bama sells itself and he has beat dan 3 times in a row without recruiting quite as well anyone can recruit to bama i was just starting to get excited for the next chip/belloti type coach that would stick around and be the guy for a while these 2-4 year stints are getting old If dan does go ill be sour about but jeez bama is hard to turn down i personally would stay with the ducks but ive been a duck fan for over 20 years... i bleed green and yellow
