Votre sirop a l’air délicieux. 😃Et salutations au 🦉

You two are more than amazing. When I see that house you built with your hands like no other in the world and now finally making syrup I'm just more than impressed. When I was a kid I was the second generation off of the farm. My grandpa farmed 50 acres with a mule, never owned a tractor and fed 11 kids. All his kids except one "moved to the city". I lived for a couple years about a mile from him so tho my dad wasn't a farmer, I got to experience a lot of what went on in the old way of farming. He always had a stand of sugar cane and when it got ready, he had a cauldron that he could put over his black smith fire pit that was probably about 8 or 10 inches deep but probably 18 to 24 inches around and it formed a shallow bowl toward the bottom. I didn't understand the science then, but now I see that the evaporation area was quite large compared to the contents. Smart. He would hook that mule up to a metal cylinder that had a companion piece and they both had gears at the bottom so that when the mule turned one, it turned the other and of course they met each other and you stuck the cane in there and it would smash it absolutely flat squeezing every drop of that sweet cane juice out that would drip down into a run off that went into a barrel which collected the juice. Through out the day they would boil the juice down and make sorghum syrup. Great thick syrup. And around the edge of the cauldron would form this taffy like candy which they would take a husk from the cane and run it around the edge to collect it and give it to us kids to eat. And that cane juice was one of the sweetest drinks you'll ever taste. Fond memories! Great job with the syrup you two!!

What a magical and fun episode! I’ve been hoping for a video like this from you, and it didn’t disappoint. Thank you, and happy pancakes days! By the way, I really prefer the rudimentary method, it brings back a time gone by, and evokes memories of school 16mm movies teaching us in western Canada all about maple syrup making (I’m betraying my age!😂). I loved it then and I’m loving it now, with the two of you. An absolutely delightful visual feast.

We didn’t know either! There’s also a lot of factors that influence how much they give. Like after a rain fall? They give a lot since they just got all that water. Same happens after a very warm day where a lot of snow melted. But a cold and windy day? You get almost nothing!

Giday guy's from Ottawa. My brother's and I do it as a hobby as well. Little larger scale but we have a tank to keep sap in close to the boiler it pre heats the sap so it doesn't drop the temperature as much when you add some sap. We keep the sap in the boiler 3.5 inchs deep evaporates the sap the best. You have lots of slop there you could easily do lines to run down hill to a tank. Also some of those trees you can have more than one bucket on the sunny side. Experiment and find what works best for you guy's. Great channel great job on the syrup good luck for next season.👍☕️🍻🇨🇦
10 ай бұрын
Thanks Bruce! We've thought about installing the gravity tubes (the previous owners had them) but we don't really like the aesthetic of them. We find it ruins the look and feel of the forest, so we'll stick to the buckets for the near future at least. We might try 2 buckets on big tress next year!
