There's gas and strong smell that'll turn away first timers. Then when you get used to its smell that's where you can taste the sweet, tangy, slightly bitter taste of it. So like most smelly fruits, you need to get past the smells before you can objectively taste its taste.

*southeast asian and if u want to be more specifically, it's just malay. "asian" word is huge. not all asians love durian. even east asians too dont like durian. arab also asian and they also dont like durian, bruh. But not all of them. Some love durian. But few. please dont do this kind of "racism" thingy. dont generalize things. Edit: Im tired to see ppl misuse the "asia" and "asian" word. Asia is from Russia far east to the west part of Russia. Or from Japan to part of Turkey and part of Egypt. If u use "asia" and "asian" word, make sure it talks about chinese/orientals/east asians, malay, turk, arab, indian, etc. Or at least some asians. Like.. if u talk about malay, arab, indian. U can use "asian" word there. If it's just one ethnic group, better just call that ethnic or region name. Yes, you're asian, u can call yourself asian, but please be more specific if u just want to talk about your people. It's like.. imagine if u talk about German but u use "European" word. Like.. Why? Just use "german" word. "european" word is too general. Scandinavian also part of European and they're big tall blondies with blue eyes. Different from the southern Europeans that usually with darker hair colors and eye colors.

Don't give up on durian yet, Nick. There is a reason why it's dubbed as'The King of fruit'. Aside from the exorbitant price, it tastes like no other fruits. I know some people who hated it at first taste, grew to love it over time.

i feel like being an asian, a southeast asian to be specific, is actually a blessing as we have really high tolerance for food. we get to try and enjoy various foods from many other countries and cultures without getting sick. this gift also makes it easier for us to respect and appreciate food from other countries and cultures. although, respecting other cultures shouldn’t be dependent on your taste for food lol. an unrelated hashtag to nick’s video, but to my comment: #dontyuckmyyum 🥰

As a south East Asian I still don’t like durian though. I can tolerate the smell to the point that it doesn’t bother me, but I refuse to eat it.
