You can get Aluminum to react right after you have processed the Nickel Chloride reaction, you see the sulfate wont react with the aluminum because of the oxide layer aluminum forms but chloride ions will remove this layer making nickel chloride react with Aluminum powder.

how long did your let the metals sit in the nickel sulfate? i know singular replacement reactions can take a long time. it took 3 days for my copper sulfate to fully react into zinc sulfate.

i let them sit for about 10 minutes each. But I really think they should have reacted by then!

Please help: I am growing a polycrystalline nickle sulfate structure. If anyone has tried to grow this before then you know how hard it is to work with this because of sensitivity to small temperature changes. Someone told me that even at room temperature (about 22 celcius) an evaporating nickle sulfate solution is spewing toxins into the surrounding air. Fact or fiction..as you can imagine since I have this sitting on my desk in my bedroom so I can observe it and keep it growing in an attempt to produce a magnificent specimen hearing this has introduced a bit of anxiety. If this is the case then working with Copper Sulfate should pose the same hazards and perhaps every other chemical that would be considered toxic. It makes no sense to me but I am no chemist. imgur.com/gallery/Isnkl
