I found this video just this week (in March 2024), and shared it with a friend in Tennessee. He paired his SENA 50S, iPhone, Nav VI GPS and the TFT on his 1250 GSA today, then went for a 180-mile ride in the mountains. He navigated a route on his Nav VI, and ran the BMW Motorrad Connected app, to record his ride, and display speed limits on the TFT. He said everything worked flawlessly, and also eveything paired back up with no issues, after a gas stop, and a lunch stop. THANK YOU NICK! You'ce onbiously cracked the code! I plan to do the same with my devices, right after I pick up my new 1250 GS next week.

Hi Nick, recently got a new helmet (Schuberth 5 with Sena SC2) and a new iPhone 13. Set both up to my 1250GS in about 30 minutes following your instructions. This is the third GS and third time of using your video so just like to say a big thanks for spending your time producing it and posting on KZbin. Excellent ,clear step by step process, probably the best out there.

Hi Nick, here we are almost three years on after you making this brilliant video, after a year owning a 2020 GS Adventure I purchased an Interphone U-Com4 BT system and the connection with my tft and navigator V been giving me nothing but desperate anger attacks… Thanks to you’re very clear and calm instructions on this video I’ve managed to get the thing working be it without connection to my navigator V and helmet because I couldn’t make phone calls… so nav V is only connected to iPhone for Smart Link traffic info but that’s just fine, I use the Connected BMW app for navigating. So connected helmet to tft first and then iPhone second and it all works… Thank you so much again and best regards from The Low Countries aka Holland.✌🏻👍🏻

Hi Nick. I struggled with this exact issue and the BMW dealer couldn’t fix it - they said it’s one or the other. I found your video today , did the steps and problem solved. Clear, easy to follow and I didn’t even know my Sena 10s has 2 phone Bluetooth channels. One issue I had, was the TFT froze after I changed the Navi Settings (when connected to the bike) and I had to reset the whole TFT back to factory setting then start again. After that it worked fine. Great job, and many thanks.

Firstly, thank you for taking the time to make this. I think I just got my head around it even if less important for all us non tft bike users🙂. This just convinces me how much we don’t NEED tft screens. There was a lot to be said for simplicity and clarity. We do not need all the info available, we do not need the connectivity nor the apps nor music blaring in our ears as riding is demanding enough of our concentration without it. I ride an RS and have both the nav V and VI. I used to have the GSA1200, but for clarity I always thought the last of the 1200 RT displays as the best that BMW made. The problems are all bluetooth and app related. The simple answer is either to make a better tft with full nav options, other bike companies manage this, or to go to a simpler display. As for the bmw app,I gave up on that. I just use the nav units to navigate and don’t bother pairing my phone. I don’t need to make calls whilst riding nor take them. Better to pull over for that. I pair my helmet direct to the nav unit then separately pair the helmet to other intercoms if riding with others. Job done. We have made our lives way too complicated and are slaves to flawed tech.

Hi Paul. It’s frustrating for sure. The TFT itself and the integration with the wheel is probably the best and clearest in the business and for us imperial countries offers simple and quick switches to metric when abroad (often). It does also display useful stuff such as tyre pressures, range, trips and stuff but for sure the Nav integration with the connected app could be better on the GS(A). It is MUCH better and more reliable on the K1600 I have now and has map view so much improved. I need a dedicated Nav as I use plotted routes to ensure I take the route I want, not where google maps or Waze want to take me and at last on the K16 with MRA to plot and the connected app it actually works 👍🏻 Thanks for the detailed comment though

Had many problems with Sena, Nav VI and TFT. This was very helpful. If you connect the Sena to the iPhone you blow the lot away.

I solved all my connectivity issues Nick by sacking off the TFT altogether. I now pair Sena 20sEvo with my Nav 6, phone to Nav 6 and it works seamlessly. No issues after stops with reconnecting. Easy and reliable. Having also purchased software to convert Audible files to MP3s I can now listen to my audio books with complete reliability. Really enjoy your "how to" videos, so many folk rush or leave out the important bits!! Keep it up.

@@nickhodgeUK I've been there. It isn't right tbh. I have a 12 year old Grand Scenic and the Bluetooth on that works perfectly 99.9% of the time. And yet a brand new 21k motorcycle is a nightmare. Use the Nav6. I have a new Triple Black (130 miles). It replaced my 2019 GSA. I haven't even turned the bluetooth on - and I don't intend to. New bike - no issues as it's all done through my existing kit. I spent hours trying to get the TFT to work. It would all pair perfectly, then first time i turned the bike off it would stutter. The first time it did this was off the ferry in Ouistreham. I spent an hour at the side of the road and got absolutely nowhere. I won't be using the TFT for connectivity unless they completely redesign the software - and it actually works! Good luck with it .

I just use my iPhone 7 for the connectivity to TFT through app bmw connect and to listen Spotify in my cardo Packtalk..my setup is iPhone connect TFT and cardo to my phone....for some reason navigation app was losing connection to TFT, than TFT just went frozen...the connection would go back if i restart bike and phone...very annoying...it happened a few times...yesterday i did reset TFT to factory default (default was never modified before)...than i did reset all iPhone bluetooth connections...i went for a 640 km ride and everything worked great! Woohoo...back in business none issues!

The connections should stand the test of time with the Bluetooth only nav systems. It is different on the 10.25in TFT (2021 on RTs, K16, R18) where there is ‘map view’ actually in the TFT which uses WiFi (not internet a motorcycle specific network) AND Bluetooth. Enjoy the rides👍🏻

Hi Nick, you Sir are a Legend. Why are there so many conflicting routes to full Bluetooth Connectivity out there & unfortunately I have followed a few that providential connectivity only to be let down a few miles down the road when either the music stops or we get no further voice navigation commands. My Son just gave up a long time ago on his 2020 1250 GS & now using his bike as a daily commute just connects his Sena to his phone for uninterrupted music on demand & I was sticking to my guns to find a solution. Followed your sequence to the letter this afternoon & all appears to be connecting straight away. The issues I was facing was Music would stop after 20 or 30 seconds or 5 mins other times my Sena would be shown as Pillion & have to discard the connection & reconnect as rider. I honestly have had for the past 2 years the most expensive paperweight the Garmin V1 but now I can also use this along with my TFT. Thank you very much for your time & effort.

Hope it works for you David. There are still issues with certain combinations of iPhone, headset, TFT software version (generally Android is good) but the theory holds. One issue to be extremely sure of it there is no helmet connection direct to the phone. It seems sometimes that ‘steals’ the connection while riding if that makes sense? Another thing is also if you have Sena the default name is Sena SRL 1.2 or similar and although they have unique Bluetooth IDs it helps when connecting rider/passenger helmets in the TFT. To do this TEMPORARILY pair the helmet and phone. Open the Sena app and go to intercom pairings in the app. There you’ll see a pencil by your ‘headset name’ (eg Sena SRL 1.2). Click that and edit the name. (No special characters). Mine is Nicks Shoei. Note: no apostrophe or it won’t save. Now delete the headset/phone pairing and the helmet pairings from the TFT and re-pair the helmet and TFT and this time it’ll have your new name and better to identify 👍🏻

Once again, great video! Workers perfectly. One more helpful hint, if not already covered, is I allow the tft, phone and NAV to pair, then I turn on helmet. Things all seem to connect properly in that order.

Hi Brent. I’m not sure the order matters although you may be right. I think it’s more that the BT connection is about the last system booted. Often 30 seconds after ignition and many don’t wait presuming it won’t but thanks for the comment and glad it works 👍🏻

By far the best video with clear instructions that works perfect with the BMW Fit For All Intercom, Nav VI GPS, iPhone 12 Max and BMW R1250 GS Adv TFT. Volume works also for music and phone at the TFT with the BMB left hand control. BMW has a good idea, but should improve his connectivity to work consistent. GREAT value!!!

Interesting. It’s still flaky on the GS(A) in my opinion but with a Nav 6 you’re not without directions. I now have the K1600 and it was awful with no back-up Nav but a few weeks ago I had the TFT updated. (It took 10 hours!!!!) and it’s now near perfect!!! Just did four days in France with a mix of pre-plotted and on-the-hoof routes and the ‘map view’ dropped once and then dropped to BT turn-by-turn view (like the GS). This was with music, phone calls and all. I may become a fan 👍🏻

Another great video Nick. I wish I'd found your channel 6 months ago when the Alaskan riding season was into full swing. I have a 2020 GSA, the NAV VI, and the Sena 20S. Despite several other tutorials, I've had mixed luck getting everything to work and, exasperated, fell back to becoming comfortable with using my Apple AirPod Pro's, a RAM mount and my phone. I shouldn't complain too much -- the audio quality of the 20S speakers is just slightly better than the PA system at my son's elementary school :). Furthermore, the AirPods 'configuration,' is best used without any active connections to either the TFT or NAV unit. Case in point, you start the music, get your gloves on, get underway only to have the bike hijack the connection and have to stop long enough to reestablish connection with the AirPods -- and reglove. This touches on your point and other's comments about the delay in establishing bluetooth harmony. The last video I remember watching on this topic, despite being 30-plus minutes, missed several settings that yours covered. Yours also seems to debunk the possible myth that there's an important sequence of powering on the components. Thanks again -- I have the bike in its hibernation state until April, but look forward to giving this a new go then.

Hi Jim. Not sure this’ll every be perfect until they dump the Nav6. The 2021 RT does this with it all built into the TFT (colour images, live traffic, etc) but it will still need the Connected app and that’s good as then maps and such can be updated regularly without necessitating TFT updates. Mine too will likely be away until the new year but because it rains so much rather than it being 6ft deep in snow and 10 below. Stay warm 👍🏻

Hi Nick. Bruce in Wagga Wagga Australia. just watch this KZbin on the TF Connectivity issues etc. Although it is now May in 2022 I think it is still very relevant to me. I have a 2019 R1250GS. iPhone 12 and a BMW Navigator GPS (Garmin) I have the BMW Motorrad Connected App on my phone and it has not recorded any trips for over a year. At the bottom of that screen on the App it says There is “no devices connected”. I also have a Shoei Neotech and the same Senna headset integrated as you which I have not used due to similar issues. I am going to uninstall all connections and follow you instructions and see if this sorts it out.

Hi Bruce. The ‘no device connected’ in the app is not related. That’s a new things for the BMW connected cradle which you can use with your phone rather than the BMW Nav 6. Hope you get stuff sorted though 👍🏻

Hi Nick, thanks for this and hopefully BMW will sort it all out soon. I have a Cardo Pactalk Bold and an I phone with my GS. I have had frequent problems with connections. The main success I have implemented is to turn on the bike first and get it to pair with your phone and get the phone symbol to come up on the TFT before you turn on your Cardo, then the helmet symbol comes on. No problems. The pain is when you stop for say petrol and you turn the bike off you must turn off the Cardo, before restarting the bike waiting for the phone symbol and then turning the Cardo back on. If you don’t do this I just get the phone symbol on start up and the Cardo will not pair. It’s a nightmare.

Andrew. I agree. It takes to long to start the Bluetooth connections. Maybe 30-40 seconds. That’s for ever when your waiting to ride especially in a group. You know when it’s trying as the BT symbol starts to flash on the TFT. It’s never going to connect before that. Hope springs eternal 👍🏻😂

It can be a little aggravating when you get more information from customers experiences then you can the actual dealers that sell these. I just bought the 22 R18 bagger…. From a Harley dealership that are now starting to sell BMWs 😊 so getting anyone that has any knowledge on how these bikes are set up and operated is an adventure on its own. I haven’t really messed too much with the TFI display besides setting the app up on my phone ,but I was wondering on the headset in my helmet if it could be linked considering it is the Cardo brand? but I agree having a second phone to set up and use it as a designated operation source would be a good choice, besides my max pro will not fit in the compartment they have on the bagger. I know the bikes are still new and have a lot of bugs to work out but I’m patient! So great video and information. Thanks

Hi Donnie. It’s frustrating the issues that are there however you may find the R18 will be fine. For sure I don’t hear much from S1000XR riders for example. The Nav 6 does not help for sure. The system will only work if you pair a headset and the cardo will be fine. Good luck 👍🏻

Nick what can I say this has been really helpful Ive owned my 1250 for 2 years and got the Neotec 2 connected to the bike and not the satnav, to be honest I was okay with listening to music and not a voice telling me which way to go. But watching one of your previous videos I realised I wasn't getting what I paid for or the full experience. Thanks to you there has been a vast improvement, still not 100% with the Garmin as every now and again it seems to decide to set its own routes or change screens.

Hi Phil. Glad it’s helped. If your Garmin is under 2 years old it’s still in warranty and if under 3 years still in BMW warranty (if it is a Nav6) the ghosting where it looks like someone else is pressing buttons is a known fault and you may get it replaced with perseverance 👍🏻

Nick just a quick update I took your advice and contacted my local BMW dealers in Essex and they took the Nav 6 in and had a look at it then called me to confirm that it was U/S and to pick up a 2021 version. I have also had all of the software updates on my 1250 done so have reinstalled the crash helmet/phone/Nav again. So thanks again for the advice.

Hi Richard. It’s because you should have no connection from the headset to the phone. If you have that you’ll likely lose the connection to the TFT. Try it but I suspect that’s what will happen. It does with the SRL

Excellent video Nick, I use the same method for my 1250 RT, a little bit tricky because I have the radio on the bike and a Bluetooth dong specially to pair music from Spotify to the radio. the only difference is that I start from the bike and then to the Garmin VI. Appreciated the “trick” of disconnecting the “media” on the Garmin VI. Sometimes my system also gets confused so, turning that off might help. Another thing I always do, otherwise thing will go crazy and I wont be able to answer phone calls, despite I see them coming, is to always connect the helmet first (mine is SLR2) then the bike. Sorry to hear about your troubles with your GS connectivity. I love the look of the GS but just too many problems with it especially with it costing $31,000 in Canada. Glad I bought a new 2019 Super Tenere ES for $16,500. I use a TomTom 400 GPS and an IPhone 7Plus for music and run everything thru my SENA 20S and it works perfectly all the time. The Tenere doesn’t have all the electronics like the other bikes , but what it does have, works perfectly. Keep up the great videos. Good luck and ride safe.

Must try a Tenere. The Africa Twin is gaining traction here it seems but I saw a BMW, Yamaha, Triumph, Honda test a year or so ago and the BMW romped all but cost and the Yamaha seemed to drop into 2nd in most categories. It’s probably not as big an issue as us ‘prima Donna’s’ make out but your right. It should work all the time at that price. Many do what you do and use the Nav as everything and that seems to work better but you then lose handlebar control. Ride safe and often 👍🏻

Wish I’d watched this when you first posted it Nick.. as I thought it was just me! 🤣 my iPhone kept unpairing and dropping out (have a 2020 r1250gsa). Only a month ago (May 2022) I asked the dealer to update all of my Software and firmware. It turn out it had never had any updates.. and this (though as you say it took about 6 hours just for the updates), it seems to have fixed all of my issues. Though, it still seems slow IMHO to lock onto the iPhone and my headset. Sometimes a few minutes. But at least I’m not pairing them every other time! J

Hi John. Part of the issue was the unreliable connecting so they seem to have moved it to the end of the TFT boot queue. Does seem more reliable there but as you say can take a good minute 👍🏻.

Hi Nick. Nicely done video. I followed your steps and got things working. I use N-com B 902 R on a Nolan 100-5 helmet. It’s based on same Sena technology as the SRL/SRL2 technology. I have a neotec 2 helmet as well with the SRL2. I’m not a big fan of Sena and these modules are based on their S20 which is an older model but it gets the work done. Thanks for your effort.

Hi Nick, I have a R1250GSA Jan 2020 and I have had exactly the same issues. My dealer recommended only using the NAV6 for all communications and not to use the TFT at all which seemed ridiculous. I also had numerous problems with the NAV6 which meant replacing the unit not once but 4 times. In the end I asked for a refund. I fitted my TomTom Rider using an Evotek mount. Now everything works really well I just cannot use the wizzy wheel to control the TomTom but I can live with that. I can even use the Motorrad App to find and Nav to something specific like a fuel station or restaurant without having to interrupt the main trip on the TomTom.

Frustrating eh? The Nav 6 is really the weak link here. It doesn’t really do anything well 😂 the only issue I now have is with the map suddenly going crazy and losing buttons and stuff and also it looking like I’m getting phantom presses. Quicker they incorporate Nav properly in the TFT the better but then everyone wants regular map updates and some link to live traffic and cameras. Good old google maps 😂👍🏻

Hi Nick, had my GS first service a couple of weeks ago, there was a TFT update which they offered a couple of days before as they need the bike all day on the day of service !! I have had NO issues with connecting Sena 30K /Samsung phone /Nav ect , it was suggested that I don't need to have the updates if I don't want them as they occasionally throw up problems that were not there before and you can't go back !!It's all working perfectly so declined the updates!!! The only thing I have found is that for the Sena and phone to connect automatically to the TFT every time I need to have the bike switched on and done its start up checks before I turn on the 30K, not have the Sena on first. love the vids, Dave

Glad it works for you. The RT (and my new 1600) also use WiFi for the map view so the additional steps are to be sure you have nothing in the bike that is also requiring WiFi (like my Innovv camera). Also sometimes the map view won’t start at home as it won’t let go of the Home WiFi (bear in mind this is a wireless network, not hinging to do with internet). Maybe I’ll do a specific video on the 10.25 screen soon

@@nickhodgeUK Interesting, I had an issue with my phone connecting to the TFT on my bike but when I visited the showroom he asked me to get rid of a load of Bluetooth devices which I did, and this automatically sorted it, also my Apple watch needed to be in airplane mode as it was also causing the WiFi to disconnect and therefore the maps.

That’s interesting that some of these things work. The ‘old’ turn-by-turn maps (which if WiFi drops is the drop back on the 10.25) and the default on the 6.5in TFT also runs the media and phone. A phone can have multiple Bluetooth (BT) connections although the more you have the more issue is likely. Only the maps use WiFi and certainly I’ve had issues connecting to those if I am for example outside a hotel and are still connected to their WiFi as a phone can only have a single WiFi connection so entering settings and manually connecting to the TFT WiFi (2Gxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx) will sort the issue. The update I had on the TFT on the 16 in September 2022 improved it a lot, but interestingly the latest app update (June 23) seems to have set it back slightly although on a recent 6,500 mile trip it worked the bulk of the time perfectly. I too have had the developers question my Apple Watch but personally I find that a little implausible but if it works I’m willing to accept it. It’s getting there but it really wants a ‘reconnect’ WiFi setting in the TFT that works (there is one I think called connect map view, but it NEVER) works. Nearly there though and with route planning on MRA I’m beginning to like the setup 👍🏻

Hi Nick thank for the video, I have followed it to the letter, updated, restarted But my GSA and Packtalk Bold are so intermittent, music skips and fast forwards, sometime no map prompts then all of a sudden she goes nutz in my ear telling me directions from miles away from where I have travelled from until it catches up to where I am ??? I have a Nav6, Iphone 12, all the updates are complete and BMW have updated the TFT etc, the other thing is you cannot sometimes use the wheel to start music playing it has to be done from the phone... I am at a total dead end now !!! Just been on a 10 day trip and it was sooooo frustrating, BUT the bike its self is just so good its just the connectivity issue Thanks great vids

Hi Andy. That’s not an unusual experience I’m afraid. Here’s what I do. Delete all pairings. Reset TFT via settings. Factory reset the headset and re-pair everything, starting phone to TFT. Headset to TFT. Now try that without connecting to Nav. I’m finding it important to have phone accessible to TFT (breast pocket). If all that works then connect the Nav (disconnecting the phone and media channels). There is a 14.6 for iPhone and an update for the app too last week. Good luck👍🏻

@@nickhodgeUK Your automation inspired a whole new area of "playing" I added an automation to open the BMW Connected App (And then turned off always in location services for the app - I just don't like apps always using location) I had it open my favorite playlist in music and set the volume I also added another automation shortcut to open the Garmin Smart Link when the Nav 6 connects via Bluetooth. One last tweak was on the Bluetooth setting on my iPhone (IOS 14.*). on the (i) info section for that connection, the sync contacts is checked, but I unchecked all contacts and just check favorites. This means I just get a handful of contacts on the TFT. The Automation idea was really cool, so maybe a good idea for a future vlog. Thanks for helping me along.

Be careful turning off location services in the app. I heard directly from developers that the phone going to sleep (as it would in your pocket) can stop it working which is a problem to use any Nav from it although that may not worry you. Hey Nick Your setup is pretty similar to mine 70 plate GSA exclusive only difference is Sena SRL 2. I've updated the firmware of the Sena today and setup as you suggest. Set the Nav 6 to run in GPS home mode and set music running from TFT. Then got my wife to phone me and bugger me it all worked, first time since I got the bike. We're off on a ride tomorrow Kielder and the Boarders so will give it a full test. Thanks for putting all your time and effort into these videos I really enjoy them.

That’s fantastic news. Remember too once it’s connected start your music and turn the volume up full on you phone before you ride off as you can’t do that until that channel is ‘in use’. The same with your phone. Get your wife to call you while stationary. Answer it on the TFT and turn the volume up full on the phone while on the call. This should not need doing each time but now you have those channels on full volume you can adjust them with the headset buttons on the SRL 2. BMW are looking to release the protocol to adjust the volume using the wheel which is currently only licensed to work in their helmets. Hopefully major headset manufacturers will retro-release but you have more chance than me in that although they may also see it as new headset sales and only fit to new models???? Enjoy your trip. Hi Nick, great video and was interested to see the issues BMW owners are having with connectivity. I own a Triumph Rally Pro and people are also saying they are having connectivity issues, whereas I didn't and I know its all in the way everything is connected and in the correct order. I have to say it seems very convoluted the way any of these things connect. What I found best was to remove all pairings from helmet to phone (I use Android) and then pair phone to TFT then pair helmet to TFT and it has worked flawlessly. I'm surprised BMW don't have it so that the Nav pairs to the TFT along with the phone and helmet, if it did I feel these issues would be resolved. Just seems too compilcated. Also hate to say but the common theme is that most problems are with iPhone. Especially the camera failing due to vibrations when mounted to the bike, more specific, iPhone 11.

I can’t argue with any comments there. Certainly I travelled recently with a new Rocket 3 owner and he’d live my issues (we called his ambient temperature guage a random number generator). It’s frustrating but I find when you get a ‘way’ that works it’s at least manageable. For sure Apple are a big negative contributor 👍🏻

A highly detailed video Nick - must have taken ages to produce - well done. I have a 1200 GS Rallye 2018, a Samsung S10 and a Cardo 4 unit. I followed BMW’s pairing instructions and everything appeared ok. However when I try to make or receive a phone call, I can hear the party at the other end of the line but they cannot hear me. Media is perfect although the Cardo unit can be slow to connect. I have not tried to use navigation as it’s difficult to get lost in Ireland. I’ll reinstall each unit following your instructions and see if that improves my phone issue. Thanks for your video. Brian.

No Nav unit to me, I can’t justify the cost, I have an adaptor that lets me put my iPhone XR where the Nav goes and use Connect as my primary Nav app. I have zero issues with the Nav app. The combination off turn by turn direction on the TFT and the map on Connect is fantastic and I love having a record of all my rides. I had the firmware upgraded about 6 weeks ago and it had eliminated my connectivity issues, until today, when I jumped on the bike, the connections were gone and for the first time, I couldn’t get the TFT to connect to anything. A couple of hours later, I was able to get them connected.

Andrew. I think your issue there is the volume. My speakers are fine so long as you’re one click off full. 1st. Connect everything, start your music (this is important as otherwise this next step turns up the ringer). Turn the volume to full on your phone. This is actually turning up the BT channel volume. Now turn it up full on SRL until it starts bleeping. Then back one press to stop it distorting. That works for me up to the speed limit (at least 😉). Unfortunately you also need to get someone to call you on phone and when answered turn volume up to Max that channel also. Both these settings will persist at least until you use another BT device (eg home speaker) to listen to your music 👍🏻

That works great and if a track appears you don’t want (somehow grandma got run over by a reindeer got in mine) you can skip the track using the wheel 👍🏻

Just watched your video on connectivity i gave up trying long ago but may try again my iPhone is currently using 14.4 so I hope it works at all. You must have more patience than I have and a dealer who cares. By the way I also have the Shoei neotec with built-in Sena works great with the phone and tomtom hates BMW tft.

Give it a whirl Paul. It shouldn’t be this tough but gradually I think it’s moving forward and as the RT will HAVE to work as it has no other SatNav integration other than the TFT we just hope any fixes are applied retrospectively 👍🏻

Hi Juan. Helmet to Helmet is easy if they’re Sena. Press and hold the centre button in both helmets until it says ‘Intercom Pairing’. When both helmets are bleeping, press the centre button on ONE helmet and wait. Then they’ll join. If they are different manufacturers helmets you’ll need to use another method but it’ll work for Sena to Sena (most models) 👍🏻

3 years later and we still have the same problem. My Cardo Packtalk Edge, iPhone 15 and the TFT on my BMW F900XR connect but we lose voice commands on the Cardo and media payback. So for now I only connect the phone to the Cardo and all the Cardo features work fine. The only things I miss on the TFT is the speed limit right next to my current speed on the TFT and the voice recorder on the Cardo app

Does the cardo have mobile phone 1 and 2. Try connecting mobile phone 1 to the TFT and 2 for you helmet 👍🏻

Nick thanks for the info. Getting ready to purchase GS next year. I will skip the nav and use my phones nav. I will say I have never had any issues like this on my Harley Ultra Limited.BMW needs to make their moto: " what's wrong with doing it this way to easy". Thanks again!

Hi David. I think the Nav 6 is the weak point but it has the live traffic/cameras and more detailed route planning. Maybe too much. BMW seem also to have been thrown a curve ball by a BT (or privacy) issue in the Apple iOS. Hopefully when the Nav is fully brought in the TFT (although it will still use the app for maps as it’s easier to update) things will improve. That’s 2021 on the RT so expect it on the GS in a year or so 👍🏻

@@nickhodgeUK Yep, youre right. was just having a play in the garage and it kept dropping in and out. However, the other day i managed to get it to start showing directions. Wasnt going anywhere but it didnt drop out like it has tonight. ill try to figure out what was different.

Thanks for a great video. I have repeatedly reset the connections only for the music to drop out after 10 or 15 minutes and the phone is unreliable. I hope this works but nonetheless I’m grateful for your assistance.

Thanks for doing this Nick, I think we’ve all had problems, get frustrated and just give up or use just one connection. I’ll give your step by step instructions a go and hopefully get successfully connected. User friendly! No where near yet! I have Nav V, Sena helmet, Android phone, Spotify, Valentine Radar, R1200 GS. I pair phone to helmet, phone to Nav V with Smart Link, Radar to helmet. Works perfectly for everything I need. I dread the thought of trying to pair the TFT screen or the new app if I get the 2021 GS.

Hi Nick, a well made video, thank you! I find “Hey Siri” imperative whilst on the bike. I’ve found additional problems when you throw “Hey Siri” into the mix. I ended up connecting just the headset to the iPhone in the end.

Hi David. More people have given up than succeeded I feel but when it works it’s a joy. We just need more reliability of connection. Cars just work but you don’t wear a helmet (generally) on the car so separate navigation and the like are not an issue

With Cardo Bold, we say hey Cardo, and it does our commands. Turn on/off radio, mutes/unmutes audio, switches stations, and everything you would have to reach for. Answers phone and hangs up, hands free just by a command. Jbl speakers, great sound reproduction, Long use time, standby time and more as we learn them. I sound like a infomercial! Lmao.. sorry

As you rightly say it seems odd at best that the might of BMW can’t come up with seamless connections especially as they must spec the Garmin BMW Navigator. I watched countless videos on pairing, some insisting that everything was done in a very specific order but still had issues. I have a Shark helmet with Sharktooth set and in the end I made helmet connection with Nav for directions, phone connected with Nav for phone calls through helmet, music on micro sd card inserted in Nav and played through Nav and just connected phone to TFT for use of Connected app. All works fine with exception sometimes of Connected app losing ability to record trip even though phone connection icon showing on TFT screen!

Definitely a work in progress and the connected app to TFT app is going to have to work soon as the new RT has Nav (using TomTom) built in the TFT and no separate one. I think randomly taking the Nav 5/6 out of the equation will help 👍🏻

Nick by way of update and based on your mentioning the latest firmware/ software release number I phoned my dealer where only a few weeks ago I had a service and first MOT on bike. I asked them whether the updates are done routinely at service and reply was no! Apparently only 3 ways of updates to TFT, 1. If there are problems with Bluetooth connections etc 2. If BMW tell the dealership to perform an update 3. If you want to pay the princely sum of £25 to get update! I said after paying nigh on £300 for a service I would have expected updates to be part of service routine, however the dealership were very helpful and guided me to respond that I was having difficulty with connection and they would do a FoC update. @@neilfrazer9962 thanks for the update Neil. I think it depends in some way on size of dealership as the update takes so long (and maybe if you have a KZbin channel 😂). My dealership have room to stand an updating bike all day without disrupting other services so their attitude is any time so long as there’s no time pressure. Hope update works 👍🏻
