***** Actually, I was born and lived in Trinidad for the first five years of my life, and have spent the past 15 years in England and Trinidad is not as bad as people make it out to be. They make it seem as if you can't leave the house without someone trying to kill you! That is untrue, and it is an amazing island. Every time I have visited Trinidad I've had a lovely time (and surprise surprise, I was not murdered, did not get into a car accident and didnt get HIV!). I actually hope to move back there once I'm finished university. Just because a country isn't as developed as say, America or the UK, doesn't make it horrible. People need to stop making it out like first world countries are some great thing. They aren't. If I had had the choice when I was younger, I would have loved to have stayed in Trinidad. (Don't get me wrong, England is amazing and I have met many lovely people and been to great places but Trinidad is amazing as well).

***** I'm not going to deny that Trinidad has a problem with crime. Both my cousin and uncle were murdered on seperate occasions. This was due to the people they decided to associate themselves with and the areas they live. I'm not saying Trinidad is paradise. I said it was a lovely place. When I visited I've stayed at various places, Biche, Sangre grande and POS to name a few and I can tell you that my family who lived there felt completely safe. They went out when they pleased and felt safe. I know there are bad places. And I know that the crime rates are absurd. I just don't like when people make the country seem like hell. It puts people off from visiting there and just gives the country a bad reputation. I know it isn't the best place in the world, but it doesn't deserve for people to only look at the bad sides. Maybe I am blinded because it is home for me. Every time I go back I see my family and even the atmosphere feels welcoming. Sorry for not wanting people to think my country is rubbish. Also, thank you for that uneducated comment. That was very nice of you. I'm not going to stand here and insult you because that would get us nowhere. I know the statistics. As every country in the world Trinidad is not with its faults but I don't think anyone is afraid of not getting out ofTrinidad alive, this is an Island paradise not a warzone. She didn't say anything bad! I'm Trinidadian, I go there every summer. All she means is that Trinidad is not the largest, most successful country in the world. It's a third world country and 50% of the time you might see someone make it out big from there. Nicki and this singer on American Idol here represent their homelands in a way where others can understand that it's difficult to rise from what these places have to offer but they do it anyway. Trinidad is a great island and I love it with all my heart. I'm sure Nicki does as well. She expresses herself in many ways and I'm sure she has not forgotten where she originally came from.

This title definitely needs to be changed this is so misleading… YALL wanna put negativity on Nicki so bad ! These were words of encouragement! I am from Baltimore and I would literally say the same thing we have a chance to rise from our conditions and the norms the struggle of our everyday lives and experiences! This isn’t negative but wanting more for self. Also remember she went back spoke to her people and DONATED money and TIME PEACE 🙏🏾
