I'm from Charlotte and was raised in the Hoskins community. My parents stayed there for over 40 yrs. You're off base. This is a poor working class community but not the worst of Charlotte as you're portraying. Many of those I grew up with are now in respected professions and/or went on to college and graduate schools, me included. We didnt have a lot but we were proud of what we had and it was a true sense of community and for the most part it still is. You cant be from here. This is not "the ghetto". Its like every other minority community that receives very little resources and improvement investments from bonds or private investments.

As someone whose family moved to Charlotte over SIXTY years ago l have to say you missed some of the worst parts of town! The entire Freedom Dr. Area for one! Particularly the Camp Green area. That is within shouting distance of downtown. You mentioned " projects which can still be seen all over town. Charlotte is moving towards the San Francisco model, and has been doing so for decades, starting with the 4th Ward area of downtown. Old neighborhoods torn down by developers who put up fancy expensive neighborhoods to replace them. Old public housing torn down and leveled with nothing to replace them. The poor are being, and have been, run out of town. The homeless are growing in number every day. Like San Francisco the tech industry is growing along with the banking industry. The government of Charlotte is largly to blame for this. They have forgotten to care for those displaced by all that comes from gentrification. I suggest that you take another look at Charlotte and it's surrounding areas, say Gaston county. These are Charlotte's bad neighborhoods. Welcome to Charlotte, the San Francisco of the east coast. Just Saying.

The entire freedom drive area. Get off your high house. Nothing ghetto about freedom drive. Maybe the end of Charlotte and the start of gastonia. Even that's not ghetto just poor. I grew up in Hoskins (Linwood Ave), you showed my church on Freedom Drive, why didn't you go down Rozzelles Ferry? Charlotte is close living, you can be poor as all in a house that is falling down, 5 minutes away in Oakdale they're riding horses (this was back in the 20th, before all those neighborhoods were built up). You drove past Hoskins Mills then jumped to the other neighborhood, that was my neighborhood. Bad in Charlotte tends to mean poor, not violent.

@Nick Johnson- I’ve been to Charlotte many times but, I’ve never lived there or been in these areas. In the daytime , the neighborhood looks lower middle class “southern style”. But, at night may be when it becomes unsafe.

Charlotte has changed a lot I was born and raised here !! gentrification is causing a lot of homelessness in our city! Building new properties but not enough affordable housing! Violence is getting bad but I’ve seen worse in other cities! Murdered are on the rise all over the world! My son was killed at a protest here in Charlotte 2016. Keith Scott was killed by police. That’s What the protest was about! I started my channel to keep my sons name alive! Nice video

I’m from Charlotte, you missed so many spots it’s not even funny. I’ve seen poverty, drug abuse, gang violence, prostitution, shootings and so much more. Two of my personal friends were murdered in this city, not to mention the list of people I were acquainted with. You got these outsiders all mixed up. This is an extremely dangerous city where a lot of evil exists. And it’s a combo of homegrown and transplanted people that create havoc. What were your resources when locating “problem areas”? And driving through a couple spots in broad daylight on a Monday morning just ain’t gonna cut it. There’s so many places you missed smh. From a true Queen City native, this was a terrible representation. I appreciate what you’re doing but you may want to consider doing a night version with a Charlotte native. Milton RD, beaties Ford, freedom drive, hampshire hills, sugar creek, the transit center, North Tryon, central Ave, boulevard homes, Grier town and so many more smh

The areas that you all are talking about are, as I type, going thru gentrification. Right off Tuckaseegee Road, the "bad" side as locals call it, are new townhomes selling for $300,000. Charlotte, as many outsiders have mentioned, is a beautiful city compared to others.

Traffic sucks. Charlotte wasn't so bad in the 60s and 70s. But pretty well sucks now. Midwood area in the 60s. Could actually play outside after dark with everybody without any problems. Then I lived on hickory grove road when Eastland mall opened and when it was torn down.. working at the airport fighting that traffic daily. I finally left. Hopefully I'll never have to come back. Charlotte is gentrification on steroids what at one time was dangerous inner city neighborhoods are gone. Earl village Belmont and Pegram , Oaklawn Gibbs and Kenny st as dangerous as any street in America doing the Seventies, Piedmont Courts ,Brookhill Southside homes. Of all those areas Southside homes is the only survivor . All those areas have been gentrified or razed and the people was forced to the areas you see at the beginning of the video which is outside of the inner city. I was raised on what is now the most dangerous and delipidated area in Charlotte Cummings Ave they changed the name to Catherine Simmons but it has not stopped the killing. Take slow ride down it and some of the side streets guaranteed to make your heart pump a little faster.

I live and have lived in this area for a good portion of my adult life and it has gotten a ton better than it used to be. @7:11 in this video I had friends that lived in those apartments on the right and there were people in apartments next door that were a bit sketchy but for the most part not bad people. I lived on Rowan St near Bradford and my parents lived on Bradford beside the 🦀 pot on the corner. I remember some kids robbed the drive thru store that is across from a Family Dollar store that was a small trailer park and the 1 kid was shot by the cashier at that drive thru store and they found him in my mom's back yard behind their big blue Lincoln Town Car and I don't believe he survived and I seen things while living there that would either toughen you up and make you leave so when I say its better now it is much much better. Key St was about a block long had more 911 calls than most of Charlotte combined. Across from the trail Park that is the screen shot for this video were 2 drive up payphones and that is were I would call my gf when she paged me on my pager lol..I am not far from that area but far enough in a close nit neighborhood.. I am going to ride the route taken for this vid and see what has changed in 3 yrs.

@PAULY-P4 жыл бұрын
Depends if you want beauty, city life, etc. Not much to look at in SC as most of it is farm land and logging until you get to the coast. Western NC is beautiful with the mountains. Same with eastern TN by Chattanooga. You're literally wrapped around mountains like you're in a fishbowl in Chattanooga. Plus you have the TN River running through it. TX is a mixed bag of things. Has just about everything except mountains. They have hill country. Drugs are rampant everywhere especially TN. You'll see needles laying around in most of the state from time to time. I would just keep doing research until you pinpoint the area of a state you want to be. Going there and spending a few days in each one is the best way to do it like i have done. SC is small so you can see the whole state in 2 days give or take.

@@rnsteve2265 BLM = BURN LOOT MURDER. T be honest i don't know much about Nashville area. I only spent alittle time there and north of there to see where Johnny Cash lived and his museum. I believe there's an area to the south of that named Franklin where Miley Cyrus and others live but it can be pricey. Pretty much everywhere i went in TN i seen a needle or people messed up. Even my Subway server went into the bathroom with her friends to do some meth or shoot up as one of them put a needle in the trash can after she made my sandwich. The beauty is the east side of the state. TN isn't that bad and im not trying to knock it but it does seem like it's getting worse over the yrs. I'd personally stay away from the Memphis area as it's pretty scary at night and i don't scare too easily. If it were me, I'd rather live on the east side of the state like Knoxville and surrounding areas of Chattanooga. I'm sure someone will chime in and give you better info. Again, you have to take a few days in each state and see for yourself. Also spend time at night to see how neighborhoods etc are.

It's chronological. Used to be, you couldn't talk about the hood, without mentioning Pine Valley. Which was only a small, normal black community, until Crack came 86ish. Best thing about Charlotte was the people. Mostly good racial harmony too. Now it's REALLY international, and the southern accent is disappearing.
