American factory owners can’t hire enough workers in America. Most American parents don’t dream of their kids working in a factory, they’re encouraged to “pursue their dreams” in Hollywood, Wall Street, NFL, NBA. And workers who do want factory jobs can’t even pass simple drug tests. So can you really blame manufacturers moving production to China?

How much is the iphone gonna cost if it’s fully manufactured and assembled in usa? 3k or more?
@jacksonmarley30933 жыл бұрын
Not nearly that, most of the cost of an iPhone is materials, not labor. Even still, if manufacturing was reintegrated as a major industry in the US then our population could largely afford a slight increase in prices of domestic goods since more money would be circulating in the economy in places like Dothan. Which would boost earning potential even for people not employed in manufacturing directly.

Around an hour north of Dothan is Eufaula, home to more gorgeous historic homes than most people have ever seen. During the recent real estate boom we returned from Costa Rica and were unable to find a home to rent here because buyers from Florida were buying them up. There are now a few for sale but less to rent. We had to wait until our tenant moved out so we could move in. This took 3 months during which we bought a small camper to have a place to sleep with our 2 small dogs! Dothan is where we go for occasional doctor's visits and to shop at stores we don't have in our small town. I guarantee that if this show had gone through a few other areas of Dothan they would have found a better sampling of Alabama houses. I am very aware that we now live in a red state, but at least the governor has not banned mask wearing like wealthier Florida's. She also advises constituents to get vaccinated. To me this shows progress. Several other red states could do worse than look to our state for proof that hard work and tolerance are often the best way for a good life, at least in our little Barbour County town. Most people here wear masks, especially in grocery stores and fast food restaurants. We still do although we are fully vaccinated. Do not look down on Dothan for we have been to every corner and border in the US and believe me we saw far worse homes and far more homelessness. At least the folks living in the houses you televised are not living on the streets or in shelters!

Anytime you see a ramp in front of a house, it implies a wheelchair. Some of these are from impairments, such as traffic accidents or war injuries, and some are from strokes. I grew up in Dothan and lived in the first neighborhood .You were just in the poor part of town .The garden district has some nice older houses .It does have nicer neighborhoods such as The Highlands ,Bocage ,Spann Farm and others but they are way out of most people's income levels .I don't really care for Dothan preferring the smaller communities surrounding it like Headland ,Ozark and Columbia among others .There is so much corruption in Dothan by city leaders who have shut down manufacturing jobs not even trying to offer companies tax incentives to stay but will for restaraunts for tourists passing through to the beach .They claim they are revitiazing the downtown area but iit is basically just more bars and you guessed it restaraunts .I have nothing against the food industry but these nail salons and check cashing places are not suitable jobs for people with families trying to make a decent living .The only large employers are the hospitals and chicken processing plant .One requires a good education and the other is brutal and nasty work and not really a fair wage for what you have to do there .Another issue I believe is most employment is temporary labor based so a person really doesn't get many hours that way .For it's size it has far more gang and drug activity than either Montgomery or even Birmingham another issue .The smaller commuities deal with it far better and simply do not tolerate it going on .The people are more friendly and take more pride in their community .I do not blame the police for the issues just crooked city council members and the courts and how they prosecute too harshly for petty crimes and not strongly enough on violent crimes .Say you get a DUI it can cost thousands and not in fines .They will send you to anger Mangement ,alcohol meetings not AA mind you but court ordered and child raising classes .It matters not if you have any of these issues or even children you will have to pay for child rearing classes and anger management .This is on top of fines ,court fees and license penalties which are separate and I am fine with .I have been to tarffic court for speeding tickets and there was one person there had 27 DUIs on the books .The second time they should have lost their license permanently in my opinion .You will be charged by both the city and state for major traffic offenses such as DUI .A simple seat belt violation which is a 10.00 fine will cost close to 400.00 at court due to the fees from the court and usually classes you have to pay for also .In the smaller towns they give amnesty court twice a year for simple offenses where you can just turn yourself in and they throw away the warrant on minor offenses like this and you pay the fine and a small court fee 25.00 in most cases for not paying it on time .This I have no issue with especially for low income individuals .I can't see someone having to go to court ordered counseling for a seat belt violation nor it costing hundreds of dollars .This just fills up the jails for minor offenses when they should be for more seriuous offenses such as DUI , reckless driving or evading police in high speed chases .There issue is corrupt city officials and lack of decent jobs .

Dothan has a lot of crooks in charge that love to waste money,city spends 200 thousand and trys to make a tourist attraction out of old porter's hardware,spent over 50 thousand on a service elevator there that no one will ever use. City buying up old junk buildings to store more junk,farm center,old Denny vision building,city fixing to spend another 100 to 250 thousand dollar on Opry house that empty most of the time,they spent a bunch of money a few years ago on roof and upgrades,100s of thousands of dollars,where did the money go? Buildings marked for demolition over 15 years ago still stand,marked with a big red X,most buildings boarded up roof has fell in,no upkeep,everything falling apart.These people that run Dothan all they care about is how much money they can put in their wallet.

I was thinking the same thing. If he had kept the video going as he continued traveling straight down that road, he would have soon started recording business after business after business and within a few minutes been at a bustling intersection of two main state highways and could've panned around showing 360° view of all kinds of restaurants and stores. Then if he continued a few more miles beyond that he would've passed even more businesses and soon came to one of the two hospitals that Dothan Alabama has. All of that is just on that one street and really not even considered the heart of Dothan's business district.

I never in my life up to this day, age 56, seen poverty like this. Shacks with steam coming out of them, clothes on porch hung outside to dry, and worn torn faces. My late grandma mentioned shacks like these when she visited the South in the 1930s as a teenager. Fast forward to 1988 and they still lived like that.

There are no countries with multiple parties that are run any better than our two party system of government. If anything, we need better candidates top to bottom. We need term limits and people who know success and how to make things happen not idealists with pipe dreams and big money solutions that just never work. Obvious this community lacks something that government can’t fix on its own. The people are not involved in their own neighborhoods. Some problems have no good answers. This needs to start with individual mindset of not letting one’s properly become run down.

Those homes were once filled with love and laughter and prayers. The families that lived here has weathered the storms of life. The neighborhoods are not filled with crime, blight, degradation, and depression. The original owners are no longer here or unable to keep their property up. Perhaps, their descendents are not interested in Dothan. I live in a modern red brick house with shingles in Philadelphia PA and I will gladly trade living in any one of the neighborhoods in Dothan than living in Philly.
