@@nickmainella P.S. Loved this video - would definitely like to see more. Some people do this and go really weird with it. I find your approach more appealing, lol

It's such an appropriate quote in the context of this solo, and almost like he's echoing Nick's point about the primacy of rhythm over melody... which Gershwin was also highlighting in his quoted composition.

First video of yours I’be ever seen. Love the idea of your listening and reacting to transcriptions. It’s great, I subbed hopefully there’s more like this, even ones you’ve already looked into it’s so nice. Thanks

Such a cool idea! It’s great to see how you highlight some of Stan’s ideas and point out things to work on. I’ve listened to that solo many many times, but could never understand the nuances of it like you do. Thanks Nick! Awesome!

Great video, Nick! Stan Getz has always been one of my favorite tenor players, and I’ve always thought that this was one of his finest albums. By the way, Getz quoted “Fascinatin’ Rhythm” toward the end of his solo. Thanks for this!

Yes at 143-4 bars. I'm working over this solo transcribing it, I's a masterclass for everybody

I like the diminished line he does in 16 th notes! He is my favorite Tenor player !

I enjoyed this very much, and I DEFINITELY need to remember that good rhythmic variety will beat playing the “right” notes every time. This solo was the perfect example of that.

Bars 132, 133... D,B over B7; C,Bb over Em, then some alt notes over A7. Will have to look into why that all works.

The ending on his solo( tag ending) is really portable to other tunes!

In the passage about "diatonic triads," you refer to the part of the solo that, by that time, is off the upper part of the screen, so the listener has no notion of the specific notes to which you refer.

Also, lots of tenors have a very stuffy middle D (3+3). I play a '38 Selmer BA and it has it. Ditto a '37 Martin Comm II. I'd say both of them are borderline unusable except in runs or subtone passages.

It is disconcerting to hear you talk over the solo. If you want to comment, stop the solo and comment. I am not familiar with some of your jargon, which I'd like you to explain, such as your talk about chords and notes placed over them. I would appreciate it if you would go slower and explain more fully.
