Another great video even if it wrinkles some feathers. Agree with 95% of your assessments. I would extend the "Turbos have too much power" comment to the GTS ans S however (at least for the street). I optioned and bought a 991.2 C4 to make it "look" exactly like a GTS with the price to match. I just didn't want all that horse power with a manual. My C4 is faster than the fasted production car made in the US in the 1980s. That is enough for me.

Nick, I own a 911, 991.1 GTS and I believe it's 1.6 inches wider than the Carrera and Carrera S. So you can get the wide body on a 2 wheel drive Carrera if you choose a GTS. I don't believe you can get a wide body on a 2 wheel drive Carrera any other way. You can delete Alcantara and opt for the non center lock wheels too.

Nick, thanks for your work on all these videos. They have really helped me with my current car purchase. I am a wheelchair user (paraplegic) & as such I cannot test drive any vehicle, as I need to have hand controls fitted. As I have to disassemble my wheelchair and bring it into my car over my lap, a 2 door car is generally better than a 4 door. My present car is a VW Scirocco (don't think you get them in the US, but basically a VW Golf GTi in a fancy 2 door frock). But time (& opportunity) to upgrade. Yesterday I ordered a Porsche 911 Carrera. PDK (manual is not really an option, although it is possible to get hand controlled clutches). I live in sunny South Africa, so no need for 4WD. Same internal trim as your present 911, but went for the Sapphire Blue. Also went for the Adaptive Cruise Control (based on your recommendation/review) as hands get tired driving the 1000 miles from Cape Town to Jo'burg as I regularly do. Also went for the reversing camera (yes in a small coupé, that had good visibility, but I struggle to twist or look over my shoulder. One major difference though; my dog will not be joining me in the Porsche as he is a little bigger than yours. Deefer Dog (think about it) is a Rhodesian Ridgeback weighing 95kg!! But basically I wanted to thank you for your videos as they have helped me enormously in my choice, and then the spec. Cheers mate

Wish we could get the Scirocco here! Love them
@guydavies30357 жыл бұрын
Yes, the Scirocco has been a great car. But the Scirocco R (unlike the Golf R) is still just Front Wheel Drive, and I think it is asking too much to cope with all that through the front wheels, so that was ruled out. I am probably one of the few people who are thankful for the new turbocharged engines in the 911, as I often drive up to Jo'burg, which is at 2000m altitude, so non-turbo engines make around 17% less power up there. But very, very excited about my new order...may not see it this year...so I shall have to watch all your videos again in the interim!

Well, after owning three 911 over the years starting in 1977, I am back in the market for another. The kids are now college grads and I'm single again, so I can now buy whichever one I want. :-) I am presently looking at the S model since that is what I've always owned before, and I like the equipment/options offered on the C2S. I"m in California so no need for the C4S. Thanks for the model comparisons, I did learn a few things I had not yet "discovered" researching the new 991's. One thing that strikes me as funny still, are the many pseudo Porsche experts that exist in the world. They were there when I bought my first 911 in 1977, and they're still there.. LOL

I agree with your comments on the LED DRL lighting on the Turbo/Turbo S. I prefer the DRLs and the tail lights of the 991.1 Turbo S over the 991.2 Turbo S. I also agree with your comments on the rear deckled; I like the 991.1 better. I think the 991.2 does a better job of integrating the bumper vents and reflectors behind the rear tires than the 991.1.

Hi Nick, thanks for another great video. Definitely generated a lot of comments! I think your best point is that there are so many choices for the 911, and everything is about personal taste. The biggest issue with the GTS is the damn center wheel nut. I live in rural Japan, and not a SINGLE shop can even take a wheel off. I never thought about it, but now I'm sooo glad I didn't get one when it was offered to me...(Porsche offered me an 11% discount)

I talk to the Tech he said get a Milwaukee M18 Fuel 1/2 in cordless impact wrench will brake the 445 ft pound to remove and reset the torque wrench to 1 to get a tight enough (300 ft lb )torque to not lose the wheel, go to Any Porsche dealer they will for Free torque to spec.

You helped me a year ago Nick. I bought the 911 S in metallic black, soft top. Killer. Just drove (April 2019) to Saas Fee in Switzerland (ski trip) from London. Conclusion: very little pint in owning a 911 in the UK (like the USA). Speed cameras all over the country. Honking over the snow-covered Alps with the lid down was almost worth the £130,000 I paid for the 911. One advantage of a soft top. Drop the lid and the skis fit in the passenger seat and your luggage drop in the rear seats EASY. it was my 1st soft top. I would NEVER buy a sports car that was NOT a soft top. Its like jumping an 18 year old college gal with the light ON!

I have to agree with comments others have made regarding the GTS, although I agree with Nick's thoughts re: alkantara. The GTS has that magic combination of RWD and wider rear fenders. Personally, I like the centerlock wheels too. Just delete the alkantara upholstery when you place your order.

I'm proud of my Carrera and hate the oval pipes or whatever shape those were in 2012. I immediately ordered and actually after-market cat-back exhaust system (Fab Speed) and was extremely glad I did and got the stainless chrome quad exhaust system. For the longest time, that was my only mod. Most recently, I discovered the IPD plenum that replaces a plastic Porsche plenum. The car actually breathes better with the same time added air cleaner that breathes better. My 2012 only has 350 horse power and a low torque level that doesn't kick in until the revs climb. I didn't not worry about weight when I optioned a sun roof (which I never open). Yes, my Carrera script and 911 script are still on the back of the car. I remember 8 years ago, that I got the car and broke it in very easily for the first thousand miles. Since then, at times, I've driven it extremely hard. That easy break-in appears to have paid dividends in reliability. Racing yellow, first year for the color with car that was ordered and built during the remainder of Ferdinand Alexander Porsche's life time; then he unfortunately passed away the day before my Carrera was completed. Having passed on, the company finished my Carrera the next day and began the post build checks and shipping to none other than Beverly Hills Porsche. Lots more about this car, but I noted when I got the car that it was capable of 178 miles per hour. I save the money and did not get an S and therefore did not get Torque Vectoring, but I pretty much got everything else except artificial engine noise pipes which have never made even the slightest sense to me. Every once in a while gigantic racing trucks pull up next to me, rev their engines and then, "take off." I usually ignore them. However, when I engage sport and floor the pedal, even with their 900 horse power supercharged engines, I am almost always by them in three to five seconds. Then I immediately show down and they angrily floor their accelerator again and take off down the road at 115 mph while I settle in at 70mph, mumbling to myself, "race over." Am I sorry I did not get and S or a GTS? No, not really. I have never taken the car past 120 mph. The car can corner better than I can. You'll wonder what I did with all of that savings, will you? I dunno. Back in 2012, the 18-way power seats and that leather all over the interior and the PDK and the factory lowered edition (1/2" with longer front spoiler, Carrera 20" silver and factory 5mm spacers to widen the track and Bose music system/Sirius Sattelit capable stereo and CD player but then with no steering wheel controls (all with four stalks on the column); electrically adjusted steering wheel; partially upgraded driving system and lights which like anticipate the curve by leading the way with lighting that moves; the sunroof; night self-dimming mirrors and garage-door opener recognition and match and lastly, the torque of a 3.4 liter flat six (if I ever put twin scroll turbos on it, look out!); and the 30.3 mpg at 70mph (not the factory indicated 28mph). I dunno...I really am happy with the leather covered full-size gear lever and traditional Porsche cup holders. And a car that looks lots and lots like the lines of the original 911, rather than flared bodies and wide bodies and body work full of every kind of vent hole, useful or not. No. Just the classic lines of the Ferrari. Oh. And I do have that Duck tail that seems to come up at about 82 mph. I keep that Duck tail spoiler in the down position, all the time. Have I had an urge to change my wheels? No. Tires? Yes. I got rid of those hideous P-Zero's and put on a proper set of Michelin Cup tires...not the ones I wanted, as they didn't make them in my size or they weren't available, then. However, they are better and more comfortable and provide better road feel and feedback than the P-Zeros. AF (So. Cal.)

Nick, I've watched your videos over the years, from your first Porsche through this one. This is the first one I'll comment on. I actually found it useful. I have driven most Porsches from the 356 to the 991.1 Targa, 924s, 944s, and my current 997 Boxster. I've been thinking of moving to a 991.2 and your review of the series was food for thought and something for me to consider. Based on US roads and rules, though I can drive like a hooligan, I prefer to stay out of jail and gainfully employed, so would consider a Carrera 4 Cabrio. Never thought about the torque vectoring issue with the base. Again, a useful video. By the way, flip all the haters.

I agree with you 100% in this video. You had the driving experience comments spot on with the Turbo. Totally agree with you. That's why the GT3 6 speed is my favorite Porsche because when I think of Porsche I think of the driving experience more than I do 0-60 time for example. But on the other hand, if I could by a Turbo I would but not necessarily because I think it's the best Porsche but because it's the down right fastest...like you said. Your channel is brilliant!! Nick, thank you for your in depth review. You do contradict yourself in the assessment of the GTS. You state that the only downside to the 4S is t that you prefer a rear wheel drive 911 on dry surfaces, but that there is no rear wheel drive 911 available in the wide body. Well guess what? The GTS you put down is the rear wheel drive wide body you are wishing for.
@larsloopmans72807 жыл бұрын
Hi Nick, for me you are the most normal and down to earth youtuber...., you diserve millions of subsc. The 4s was always my favorite 911 but it's been beat by the Gts because it's a more atracktive package for the price (it has some most have options standard + widebody 2wd) . I love the Gt3 the most of all but no rear seat option and my children like to drive fast to! I dont like the look of the turbo at all, especially the ugly rear spoiler and the front bumper looks to basic. If the turbo had the look of the Gt3 or Gt3 rs i would buy one tommorow. The RWD GTS coupe is actually my favorite current 911 because you get a bit more power, all the performance options (at a discount), and the wide body from the 4. Plus the appearance upgrades are pretty cool. It's the perfect configuration to me. I do agree, however, that the center lock wheels and alcantara seats are no good. I'd configure mine with Carrera S wheels and Sport-Tex Seats.

Brake fading on the base model (when driving on the track) can easily be compensated for by using more aggressive pads. A 13" front rotor should be more than enough for a car the speed and weight of the base 911. Possible that Posche does not equip the base model with pads that are suitable for track use.

Hi Nick , My experience with Turbo 911.2 convertible and I agree with you its great car but it feels like the rode is too short to enjoy the feeling of the shift and the sound but if lots of fun and definitely unique

I think that your comments are valid for the GT3 RS but not the GT3. As far as I know you can have all the creature comforts, sat nav, Bluetooth, adaptive 18 way heated seats, front axle lift system etc. These help its usability.

Hi Nick nice one. My comment is that torque vectoring is available as an option for base Carrera, although only for the AWD version. I opt it in my Carrera 4 and love it especially because including fully variable electronic (only with PDK) 'Sperrdifferential' as well.

Your opinions are quite fair actually. Would like your opinions on getting started with a Porsche without throwing a lot of money away. Perhaps a used one like the old saying? One can always dream lol.

Excellent summary and I concur. I have a night blue 2018 C4S with the chalk interior in all leather, 18-ways, and a MT. Very similar to your car but no rear wheel steer or the fancy wheels. The only thing I would add (my impressions only): -don't like the profile of the cab (hump in the back) and the limited visibility. Ex-Boxster S owner. Boxster is nicer looking. -targa is a complex mechanism. Opening not that much larger than a glass sunroof which I use all the time. Can only open the roof when stationary. -GTS models don't do it for me. Don't like the front end styling (need front axle lift). Don't like the SE, (center pipes with the farting in sport mode) or the black accents or the center lock wheels. Car has enough power and don't care for the extra boost. -Turbo models are overkill for the street and no MT. -GT3 is great for track use but not as a DD. Touring package gets rid of the ridiculous wing but still too hard core. No sunroof and limited color options inside. C4S with a MT is my pick of the bunch but I am biased. But for for me, no sport tex ( i found it rough to the touch) and no rear wheel steer (more stuff to break). Your videos are very informative. And dogs belong in 911s. What the back seats are for.

Probably gonna lease or finance a Carrera S some day. I like personally spec'd stock, new cars with free maintenance and warranties, and Porsche has been at the top of my list for years. Fallen in love with the 911 and the Carrera range seems affordable later in my life. I live in a summer climate all year though (Florida), and I love my RWD, so a Carrera S seems the way to go, currently.

Nick, One of my favorite Porsches is that of the 928. I loved it so much, I bought one after watching "Risky Business" one too many times, and just falling in love with them. I found an 84' S (silver/red interior) and it was a nightmare to own. Breaking down constantly, and literally leaving me with hardly any time to drive between visits to Service. I still love it though, as I've accepted the heartache that is, 928 ownership. I loved it's sound, 50/50 weight distribution, and raw v8 sound. I'll surely never forget it. How do you feel about the extinct, and dinosaur, Porsche 928?? Thanks. Randy

Hi Nick on the GTS, it's the only model that offers widebody with rearwheel drive. Although it is a package model for this alone (only carrera based model with rear wheel on a wide body) I like it.

Absolutely love my Turbo S. Putting miles on it too quickly. :) I take my TT S to the race track to push. You're right that it's difficult to drive to its limits on the public road, but I have managed on back roads. It's difficult to make yourself do it, knowing that you're going to jail if you're apprehended. Same issue with my superbikes, though. It can be more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow - no argument from me.

Love watching your videos. I am looking to purchase my first Porsche. I found a great deal on a 2011 Turbo S and was looking to see your thoughts about that year. It is from a Porsche dealer and was just had a major service done and will get a PPI done.

Spot on with your opinions especially on the Turbo/Turbo S. It's hard to utilize the car's full potential on US roads unless you are in a race track and have the skills of Lewis Hamilton :). The one plus side is the immense power availability at any gear.
