When I graduated from high school in 1962, I saw the new Jaguar E-Type and I feel in love with the design. Although I never owned one, I started to pay attention to British and European sports car designs. Thanks for memories!

I smiled when you popped the bonnet. My dad's MG had two SU carburetors. My job was to 'tune' them so that they worked 'together'. I was about 14 years old at the time.

Me too! Great carbs - just a drop of oil in the dash pot occasionally! I made up a fancy manometer to balance them but in the end found a length of plastic tubing used as a stethoscope, in the intakes, worked just as good :)

The little yellow light near the headlight high/low beam toggle is the rear window defrost indicator light. It looks like the windshield squirter nozzles are backwards, but they are not. The water doesn't come out the end of the 2 squirters, it comes out the side. The end of the squirters is where you put a screwdriver to adjust the squirters.

The E-Type is a gorgeous looking car. I especially like the roadster. Had a beautiful rear end. Also love how analog these cars are and how slim they look. Jon Hamm, taking Christina Hendricks for a ride, in that sweet, red Jaguar E-Type in Mad Man...man, I would have kept driving until I would have reached the beaches in California. The original, 2 seat only E-Type looks soo soo much better. And in roadster form, perfection.
@Thereishope6644 жыл бұрын
The light on the left does not indicate that the rear window is open as you say, but controls a very early type of heated rear window. Also in the UK an E-Type is cheap to run, no tax, not required to have it MOT'd and if you're handy with a spanner then servicing is a doddle. Oh, and insurance is more than reasonable.

They often had over drive, my dads lightweight replica flowed with racing cam in early 90s had over drive but would not use it as it would stick. They need breathed on to go 150 but any 50 year old back street mechanic could get an e type up to speed in the 90s. Now would be rather doubtful as they dont tune current cars, would need to get someone out a retirement home tune it. I recall speaking to someone who had one new and said took it straight to a tuner when bought it even just fettering the factory set up would make it run far better.

Ahem ... “In 1903, in the UK, the national speed limit was raised to 20 mph; however, as this was difficult to enforce due to the lack of speedometers, the 1930 "Road Traffic Act" abolished speed limits entirely. In 1934, a new limit of 30 mph was imposed in urban centers, and in July 1967, a 70 mph national speed limit was introduced.” Wikipedia

It looks great I think. I always have a soft spot for shooting brakes like this. Moreover the roadster is really impractical. If you open the top, you have to use goggles cause your eyes are above the windscreen. If not, you can hardly see anything as you speed up. If you put the top up, you'd have to sort of crouching, because the windscreen is below your line of sight. And you can't really sit straight anymore once it has its roof up. It's a very bad car ergonomically, but aesthetically there aren't many cars that looks more gorgeous than the E type roadster.

My neighbor has a gorgeous XKE convertible in this color that's been sitting in the garage for what seems like decades with literally nothing done to it or anything, shameful. I've always been curious what it is worth despite its condition, considering what's he's worth I guess it doesn't matter to him so it will continue to sit like that for decades more.
