You should really listed to Salisbury. It's the best song they ever did. They were an underappreciated band that I was fortunate to be introduced to by a friend. I saw them at the Academy of Music in NY in 1972 with Manfred Mann as the opening act. David Byron great vocalist.

Hey Nick. I'm telling ya man you need to check out some of there later stuff to give you an idea that they are still making great music to this day. Chaos and Colour is their most recent. "Freedom to be Free", "Hurricane" to name a couple.

One of the best Uriah Heep albums, although my picks off this would be the title track or " Tears in my eyes " the former rocks tremendously and takes you on increasingly speeding ending with awesome drumming by Ian Clarke. Worth a listen.😎👍👍👍

This is the only album this drummer appears on. Ian Clarke did this masterpiece than disappeared. My favorite Heep album by far. The whole album is about perfect.

Look at Yourself is one of many Heep's albums which despite being rock centered, had many prog influences. This song had two breaks which played around with experimental vocals, organ and guitar.

They were heavy prog, kind of like Rush back in the day. Heavy prog is my favorite genre.

While their 70s stuff is undeniably awesome, some of their newer stuff is quite exceptional. The album Wake the Sleeper from a few years back is a masterpiece.

You REALLY need to listen to the song "Salisbury" by these guys. It's EPIC!! I always say it's their "Stairway To Heaven" type song.

That keyboard... Hammond B3 An absolute monster to hall around but an incredible sound. They used to hook them up to a whirling speaker mechanism, two horns spun by a variable speed motor. Heard this in a friend's basement (age 16), and his dad came down and asked what kind of devil worship music we were listening to.

This is pretty much the Uriah Heep signature sound. heavily influenced by Vanilla Fudge and the early Deep Purple.

Hi Nick, I have this album on vinyl since the 70's and actually bought it last year remastered on a 2 disc special edition. Disc 2 is different mixes never before released inc' a few live...but the original remastered is top notch never sounded sooo good !!! My favourite track is "July Morning" and it sounds amazing remastered .. the famous guitar whip lash near the end is a corker ! ... It isn't on the different mix cd2 and is actually nowhere near as good as the original. This track is brilliant. Do I mention ...again ... how it sounds like Deep Purple and Byron on vocals can scream like Gillan ? .... Maybe mention again he sounds exactly like Gillan on vocals when singing "Come Away Melinda" from the album "Very Eavy Very Umble". ....so much so I swore for years maybe Gillan secretly came into the studio and did it, because their music is so like Deep Purple. .... Hmm I wonder ? Lol Byee Jim X [ Been using both my name tags .. I get confused too ! ]

This and, "Look at Yourself" and "July Morning" are faves on this album, but its very solid through and through. Glad you're continuing into the Heep journey, but getting to know their _Earlier_ sound before you hear their later stuff. I think the "charm" of the earlier albums is the vocalist David Byron and Ken Hensley on vocals, guitars and Keyboards (especially the Hammond B3, and the "Leslie" that makes the keyboard sound unique too). That's "Mick Box" on lead Guitar, who is the only original member still making records . . . "25" albums! And see the background at the top near-right of screen with all those CD's and "Notes"? It's buried in there somewhere 🙂, though I can't remember if its the standard edition or a re-issue (but the original and special edition Lp has a reflective "mirror" on the cover, instead of just painted on). - Nice reaction Nick, and thank you Byrd \m/.
