I guess I had missed the Town sub-theme Lego Divers, it looks really neat I might have to buy a few. I really liked looking at the Greco-Roman style landscape for Atlantis, though I only ever got one of the five dollar sets. I love how Lego has been incorporating a variety of sub-themes into City, it really brings a nice change and the under water sets look neat. Great episode, and I feel your intro works really well for this installment of the series.

It's just an easier to way to push the incentive of these factions doing what they do. I think if they did something more "mature" like drilling the ocean floor/mining a planet for oil/rare ores or something it would fly over the heads of an average kid, whereas having them explore the ocean floor/mine a foreign planet to find "bright shiny expensive looking crystals" it's easier for a kid to understand.

I kind of "retired" from LEGO by the time the first Aquaraiders hit the scene, but I still remember the Aquanauts and Aquasharks and have fond memories of them. They had some great and varied subs, the Neptune Discovery Lab was a superb base, and it was really the first (and only) LEGO theme where I was able to get most of the sets in it, meaning I had enough of both factions to have them wage war against each other properly (and unlike a lot of themes, both factions more or less felt like they were competitively "even"). Sadly, the Shark's Crystal Cave eluded me and it's always going to be something of a "one that got away" because of how big and badass-looking it was. Definitely wish I was around for the second Aquaraiders. Those brick-built sea monsters are cool.

But now after watching this video (and I also do like the ocean), made me like Lego Atlantis a lot more. Heck I do like the mech one, even if I don’t have it (I do like mechs. And it’s not only cuz of Exo-Force) Btw fun fact: The Lego Atlantis short film also had a 3-D version of it (like you can use blue/green and red glasses to make everything pop up). Although that video was a more shorter version apparently. I mean they even cut exactly when they entered the portal for example. I still don’t understand why they decided to do that, but whatever.

God, Aqua Raiders.. The only series, and I mean ONLY series I ever got every single set for. Every. Single. Set. At once for Christmas. That was my most spoiled Christmas ever, and I'm still thankful for it. It was so fun building all the sets, playing with them together, and then just mashing them together to make bigger sets after I had played out every single scenario I could think of. They're kind of the reason my collection has more yellow parts than anything, but I loved those sets, and cherish the series, and parts to the point I'll occasionally build a new custom to put on my desk with that trident proudly displayed on it, and that blue, and black clad raider inside. Although, if I had to pick a favorite set, despite how awesome the Aqua Raiders base was, I'd have to say it's a tie between Lobster Strike, and Crab Crusher. Both of those were pretty damn fun, and the big sea creatures were the best enemies to play with in my opinions, and the shark being the most fun to build. I wish I had gotten some of the Atlantis sets, but for some reason I looked at them and thought hey wouldn't be fun because I was starting to lose interest in the sea, much like how I lost interest in space. I regret not getting any Atlantis sets.

Dude... Alongside the Barraki, Aqua Raiders was the theme that got me into LEGO. I still remember the first set I was really excited to get from the store, the Angler Ambush. And yeah, I still think that- aside from the one in this year's Deep Sea Creature Creator set- that Tiger Shark is the best brick-built shark we've ever gotten. I got that one as a birthday gift, and it's such a crazy value looking back. A giant brick-built shark and a cool submarine both with functions, and a bit of scenery for $30? That kind of set has become far more expensive and far smaller. I'd say a comparable set is the Hyper-Space Pursuit, which came out only 2 years later and was a full 20 bucks more. I loved that theme, I still wish I could have gotten the Base and the Shipwreck. The Shipwreck has my favorite Sub and the Base has another cute sub an epic octupus (by the way, the eyes on it are incredible, they dual-molded the back piece with white and red so the transparent front piece made the eyes look bloodshot). (8:03) kzbin.info/www/bejne/r5StdqqYndxparc&feature=player_embedded And then there's Atlantis... what a theme! I was so excited for it, and the quest to find Atlantis was such a wonderful idea for a theme. The colors are lovely, just like you mentioned. I especially like the runes on the creatures, it almost makes them look like they're just enchanted statues like the squid and mini-sharks on the Portal, but I find I enjoy the overall designs of the Aqua Raiders creatures more. My favorite creatures is hands-down the Shadow Snapper, a giant killer turtle with fully pose-able claws and arms is too awesome to me! Plus, you got Kiina's armor in black, what a brlliant parts usage. I'm still hoping to add the Portal and City of Atlantis to my collection one day... thanks for this awesome trip down memory lane! Toodles!

I hear that Ga-Koro music at the start there ;) My personal headcannon for Atlantis was that the fish people were Chima tribes who either traveled into the prime LEGO realm and ended up in the deep waters of Earth, or traveled to a realm containing Atlantis (since it appears to be in it's own sort of pocket dimension in the short film. It would explain why we don't really see any fish-like creatures in Chima when we see mammals, reptiles, birds, and arthropods.

The interesting thing about a lot of these diver themes was that they had an underlying story. You could look at them at face value and say it's about treasure hunting, but aquazone had a story that had to do with a futuristic society that collected those silver crystals to survive. Aquasharks broke off from the Aquanauts as a form of rebellion. Also the Stingrays may or may not be mutated divers from Aquanauts as well. The story elements are across several media but it is fun to piece them together. Just about every divers theme has a unique look and some interesting Play features to me and I've always been fascinated with the Underwater World in general even though I'm not a good swimmer. The mystery and diversity that the ocean life can bring
