This video features movie locations from the 1983 comedy hit. First up is Winthorpe's Residence at 2014 Delancey Pl, Philadelphia. Staying in Philly, next up is the Duke & Duke Building which is really the Wells Fargo Building on Broad St. Then it is off to the Heritage Club (Exterior) which is the Curtis Institute of Music at 1726 Locust St, right next to Rittenhouse Sq. It's here where Billy Ray is questioned by the police officers. The Police Station/Jail (Exterior) was filmed at 1700 Spring St. This is where Clarence Beeks completes the setup, and where Louis meets Ophelia (Jamie Lee Curtis). The giant Clothes Pin Sculpture (Bank Exterior) is located at 1500 Market St. Louis and Billy Ray have another run-in, this time in front of Independence Hall on Chestnut St. Ophelia's apartment will also be seen, 1210 South St. New York City stood in as Philadelphia in a few scenes but then as itself in others. The Bar Scene was shot at 2794 Broadway in Manhattan. The Squash Club is the Heights Casino at 75 Montague St in Brooklyn. The street where he stumbles off the bus drunk in his Santa outfit is 223 Ave B also in Manhattan. Beeks makes a pay phone call outside the NY County Supreme Court. The World Trade Center site will be on display here, including The National September 11 Memorial Museum. Lastly, Pier 1 in Brooklyn will be seen by the bridge, where we learn Beeks and the gorilla live happily ever after.

Another great video. Your vids stand out for me because you capture the identical filming spot and angle so well. The 80's were my favourite decade for films and you've covered so many of them. There aren't many youtube videos that I can stay glued for 30 minutes+ but the time zips by watching yours. Brilliant... Thank you.

Whenever I watch things like this, I like to look how vegetation and streets have either changed or stayed the same. Seeing some of the same trees 30 years later is pretty cool.

Haven't been to the 911 Memorial yet Nick, and not sure when I'll go. Took me about 8 months after the tragedy before I went downtown again. On my way to the former J&R Music World, I would always look up and over at The Towers, but then they weren't there, and I was pissed. It's been nearly 21 years now, and my feelings haven't changed all that much. Thanks for including that at the end, and upfront, featuring one of my favorite Eddie Murphy films of all-time: Trading Places!

I have just begun to see your videos recently and I really love the production values you bring to them and your voice over work is spot on. More than entertaining, I find them informative, which is value added. I like the way you handled the World Trade Center segment, very respectful and you pretty much let the images do the speaking. I have had a hard time dealing with the 911 tragedy. Back in the late 60's into the early 70's, after working evening shifts in North Jersey, I would go over to the construction site at 1 or 2 in the morning to look at the progress being made. I knew this was a historic building being made and wanted to watch its creation. I often wondered over those several years about the future, thinking about the day when it or other buildings needed to be replaced, how they would accomplish that task, never thinking for a moment about a terrorist attack. After the buildings were gone on 911, I would avoid looking over at New York City, while travelling on the NJ Turnpike or from scenic view points in NJ, it was too disturbing. Time has passed and I can handle it now but it is a wound that will never heal. Thank you for the effort you have taken in creating these videos.

I really appreciate the feedback. While I didn’t get to see the creation of the WTC, I know what you mean. Time helps heal all wounds, glad to hear you’re able to handle the situation better now. I did the same thing for a while, in terms of avoidance. Thanks a lot.

I gotta say, Eddie Murphy wore a suit really well. I remember back those days, that if Eddie Murphy was in a movie, I knew I was going to laugh. I really wanted to comment on an interesting point you made about the characters trying and failing to go back to their roots. I find that one very interesting and a very astute observation in general. Both characters had their lives upended, and fond themselves put in to situations where they had no business being, and couldn't make any sense of it, and trying to rebuild what was taken from them. But, they couldn't because their old worlds were gone, so it was a matter of moving forward, and out of this strange place they were in to rebuild new lives for themselves. And both became better people afterwards.

@NickP
@NickP 2 жыл бұрын
It is confusing in that respect. The main setting is intended to be Philadelphia. NY doubles as Philly for multiple scenes, and then NY is supposed to be NY in a few other scenes. Def adds to the confusion haha. That’s it though, main setting Philly, with NY making a few appearances.

@@NickP Philly sports fans are respected, particularly the Flyers' base, they respect the game. A drunk Philly sports fan who was cheering for the St. Louis Blues inspired the team to change their goal song to Gloria when a video of him went viral singing and dancing in a bar during a game. The Blues were in last place overall and after the song change they went on to win the Stanley Cup that season...beating my Jets in the process.

Wait so the scenes from the stock exchange inside the building were actually the real room of the stock exchange back then? A couple years ago I tried to figure out whether that was the case and I couldn't find any old pictures that showed anything like that room with the red carpet that they were in. I found a bunch of other pictures that coincided with each other, but I came to the conclusion that that wasn't the real room. If anyone can let me know, I'm really curious for some reason... It has to do with that feeling of nostalgia for a place I never visited, which is eerie.

01:11 Haha I love how you can barely keep it together saying his name "Louis Winthorp III"!! Awesome one again, Nick! Trading Places is such a classic. Then the thing about the 911 memorial museum is that when it opened up I think in late 2011 or 2012, I was there then, everyone had a lot of respect for the place and its history. I went back in 2015 and a lot of tourists made silly selfies in front of the pools, which I found quite offensive. Anyhow, keep filming locations!

Haven't seen this film in a long while. Forgotten it was partially set in Philadelphia, a place I haven't been to. Been to New York City twice though, going up a few skyscrapers. We don't get many where I live, they're building one in town right now but it won't be as tall as anything in NYC, or even London. As a kid, I always saw New York in media and wanted to go there, so many tall buildings I often wondered what it would be like to be around them, and such wide roads too. The city I live in couldn't be more different...although they rather funnily renamed the New Street train station as Grand Central....yeah I've been to the real one and it's way nicer than ours. If I ever get to go to America again, I don't really know where I'll go. It's not often I get to travel. I only went to Scotland for the first time last year and been to Ireland once...when I was 7 in the mid 90's. Been to France and Wales on school trips....that's all the countries I've been to. Oh well, nice video, I always like to see how things used to be in some capacity.

You’ve been to some great places, those of which I’d love to visit someday myself. Thanks so much for the feedback. There really is something difficult to put into words that you feel when having a then and now experience. Interesting stuff!

Today those Philly cops wouldn’t get anywhere near Eddie Murphy, or anyone, for any reason .

A underrated classic! Got this on DVD! The 911 ending is still sad, even after 20 years!

Thanks for the classy touch on 911. I was a police officer in NY working that day. I haven't returned to Ground Zero since then. Someday I will.

I'm glad you did this. Too bad Philly has become a trash city. If you did Rocky that would've put you at greater risk. Then ya would've been in Kensington. Zombie land.
