The Kizer Mini Sheepdog C01C Pocketknife: A Quick Shabazz Review

I wear xl gloves and have zero problems with this knife. Three finger grip is no problem. Use your middle or ring finger to grip the clip and that will give plenty of purchase for flipping. I’ve also never slipped off the flipper tab because it’s more of a push button action. Awkward blade shape gives the blade more mass so the close action is top of the line for a sub 3” knife.

I have the damasteel version of this knife, and I love it. Yes I spent to much, but I love it, so that's fine.

Bought one for my wife and she absolutely loves it. No ergonomic issues for her whatsoever. And the blade holds a really nice edge. Definitely not for everyone but absolutely great for some.

Kizer came out with a Mini version (the size of the one in this review) in late 2020, I believe. I recently bought one with Micarta handles and a thumb hole opener instead of the flipper, and I love it. Without that cumbersome flipper, most of the issues Shabazz has with this knife aren't relevant. Especially since there is now a finger choil instead of the flipper when the knife is open. Using the choil allows for a full, four finger grip.

I had one in the original VG10 steel, it had a bit of a soft detent and I just couldn't get over that massive flipper tab either. They are cool looking but idk, the blade shape is just kinda weird and it is hard to hold onto like Nick said. I sold mine awhile back.

Hmm I'm surprised the ergos didn't work for you, I had one for a little while (vanguard version) and I actually liked the ergos, and I have big sausage fingers. But another solid review, always fun to watch!

they are teasing a flipperless/hole in the blade version of the fullsize .. i had previously had mine modded to that and it really does make it a awesome knife

I carry it’s big brother fairly often. The ergo issues disappear with the full size IMHO. I love the action and it’s one of the knives I own that people really gravitate to. Is a cleaver overkill...yes. Is overkill the point of a cleaver blade...also yes. 😂

You should post a picture of your hand on a ruler for future reference - my thoughts on the full size sheepdog was that it was kind of small! My hands I'd describe as long but skinny. Glad I didn't go the Mini route!

I love Nick And his reviews and mostly agree with him, but I love my mini sd. A lot of the bad things he mentioned are alleviated by way of the button lock. Also, I’m almost sure I have larger hands than Nick and I think the ergos are actually beautiful. There’s a bit of a hot spot where the clip hits the inside of my knuckles, but I’ll never be doing heavy cutting with this thing so it’s not an issue. I initially had my doubts about this knife because I watched this review before I received the knife, but upon opening the packaging and fondling the knife I fell in love with it immediately. Not sure what else to say. The button lock version is awesome.

Judging from your review. I like it! Should have chimping on the flipper, but I love the blade shape. I like everything else about it. There is an issue with the flipper tab for sure, but like everything else about it.

I don't mind a smaller knife and I'm fine with a 3 finger grip from time to time. But I agree with Nick on this one on the aesthetics. Doesn't quite do it for me, and I like "cleaver like" designs.

It seems like a knife that I would pinch the blade with the index and thumb with the handle in the last three fingers. Similar to the way I might hold a paring knife or chef's blade.

+1 on the detent ball ramp. Really it should have had thumbstuds or a blade hole instead of that enormous flipper tab; then you'd be able to put your fore-finger far enough forward to get the other three on. And whaddaya know? Now they make one.

I'm sorry but the days of the s35vn 200 dollar knives are long over IMO. Shame because I love this knife and if it was 120 ish or the damasteel was 250 ish I'd buy in a heart beat. But with Quiet Carry IQ in elmax is 200? Yeah I ain't buying this

Kaiser quality has plummeted. Be careful when buying. came "sheepdog XL" with a lot of nuances. with crooked false edges and a lot of scratches on the axial screw ... and a lot of of people writes about problems with curved blade. this information can be found in the search query "Kaiser Curved Blade" ..

For the longest time I couldn't figure out why I couldn't center my blade, until I finally realized the freakin blade was curved. Still has phenomenal action though. 🤷‍♂️
