The Seiko Presage Enamel Multi-Hand SPB045 Wristwatch: The Full Nick Shabazz Review

Today, we're going to take a look at a beautiful, dressy little watch from Seiko, the SPB045 Presage Enamel Dial Multi-Hand Automatic. Thanks to Lewis Jewelers in Ann Arbor, MI (lewisjewelers.com), for loaning this guy my way to check out.

I agree their accuracy quotes are ridiculous for this age and time. I have to say one strong point for Seiko is that you are buying a watch for a historic brand that designed and built it COMPLETELY in house. It’s kinda of a difference as opposed to other brands that just buy parts and assemble them into a watch.

Beautiful watch. I actually like the Roman Numerals, realize many don't. Only complaint, wish this watch was 1 mm or so less in diameter.

Not a fan of the date dial. Because of 31 days, there is no symmetry. Arabic Nos look out of place when we look at it along with the roman numerals. The 30 marker will be too close to 1. Much prefer the date window

Do you know if this is the same watch that Seiya in Japan has with a "SARW035 "ENAMELED DIAL"" number? It looks identical but is only US$888 with free shipping?

It's a well made porcelain dial ,good case finish ,classy looking if the dial is off white with red at 12.blue hands have nice contrast 4 colors in a dial .(though hands aren't as good as Cartier 's bluing .)well worth an instant classic collection since it has a good movement well within sec of spec.

I mean it's not really a valid complaint to say quartz batteries run out, considering that takes like 5-10 years, when an automatic watch can die in 30 hours, then need servicing in 10 years.

It's very common on watches as it looks more symmetrical with the VIII on the opposite side.

The enamel dial is very nice. Be very careful if you buy the Chrono make sure you can deal with the “jump” of the Chrono seconds when you engage it - I can’t

With a spring bar tool, you can swap the strap around and make it fit the way we’re used to.

Strap is fitted with shorter part on the 6 because of the deployant clasp - it's much more comfortable that way (just like in a bracelet). I have owned SPB041 and with swapped strap it was digging into my wrist.

Sadly, the strap needs to go into the "ugly". It's cheap and plasticy, and, with the deployment clasp the wrong way round, the end of the band is easy to catch and scuff. The deployment buckle itself is also sub par, in that it doesn't snap together as reassuringly as some of the more higher end stuff out there. That said, it is secure so never worried about it coming apart. In terms of relative value, i think the price is fair, as long as you can get over the brand imagine (and this not being a Grand Seiko). The dial is stunning and the finish is very good. I have no issues with the movement.

Have the watch,and the strap is not that bad.Pretty good altogether.Certainly not ugly.There are better out there (think seiko underdeliver generally in that department),and the direction of strap is matter of taste

Great review, I want that watch. But, I cringed when you used the metal caliper on the watch. I'm paranoid you might scratch the crystal and metal. Maybe I'm wrong but eeeekkkk, I just was cringing.

yet another example of Seiko's lack of quality control.I mean really you didn't notice the strap is on backword before you put it in the box? I know it is easily fixed,but for the price you pay it shouldn't happen.

@@Larry-gs8gb It's not a QC thing, it's in fact a Japanese thing. They put the strap side on the inside because when you are "showing off" your dress watch to someone else that part shouldn't be visible. All cocktail times are like this.

It’s pronounced like you would a garage. Garage / Presage. Just my dos centavos brother. Don’t like the Presage Line myself. I rather go SARB Line or SARX or SARY All with the 6R15 movement without the busy dial. Again just my dos centavos. Nice video brother.

ok i can deal with the annoying if somewhat entertaining voice - and I'm surprised to hear you're in the Ann Arbor area (where I grew up) as i would have guessed Brooklyn - but please, please don't hold the watch the way you talk: constantly jittering. Take some time with your hands so my eyes can focus on the watch. When you put it down it still shakes for some reason. Please. Your voice is going 80 mph but the watch shoudln't

I question how much a dress watch really needs power reserve or date indicators. I get your girlfriend's cousin's wedding might feel long, but they tend not to be multi-day affairs. Maybe if you get a box seat at a cricket match these may be necessary features.
