Magic and Birds friendship is how the end of ever life long battle/rivalry should end. With both side sitting together sharing their story with others together. The admiration, respect and love those two have for each other is perfect. Jason I guarantee you that we know each other especially from the Boys Club days. I went to Wilson then TH South , and Bob Heaton was a friend of the family as my dad Coached American Legion baseball in Brazil before we moved to TH, so l was usually at every home game at Hulman Center and remember The Harry (Morgan) and Larry show? '78 season? One night at the Boys Club we were getting ready to practice and we lowered the backboard down to 9' and when Larry Carl Nicks and Bob Heaton came into the gym we were dunking and they stopped and said WTH... Larry knew immediately what was going on and went straight under the rim and called for a ball, and he stood flat footed and reached up and pretty much dunked it and he had the biggest smile on his face. The good ole days, even went to Camp Gulick up in Turkey Run i always looked forward to the "Big Canoe trip" down Sugar Creek

At the time of his injury people were saying he should retire because he could end up being paralyzed it was that serious that if it slipped the wrong way bye-bye Birdie. And only using techniques to warm the back muscles up so that the spine could get itself correctly aligned and all the shit he had to do with that every game in every practice and the fact that basketball at that time more represents football or hockey they were definitely banging each other sometimes you go too far when you’re like for the health of the players OK.Then stop paying them so much and let us come watch everybody play what’s the NBA called today I know HORSE

During Bird era, I never missed any of Celtics game. whether seeing him in the Boston Garden, watching him on tv or listening on the radio. He made the game so exciting and on the edge of seat games. Many times I would say "Man! we lost this game" and at the last several seconds later he would score and usually a 3 point goal to win the game. With all the legends during that time, it was the sport to watch. Bird was a genius at basketball by doing it all. He excelled in everything... passing scoring, rebounding, guarding, stealing, his constant 3 point goals and his last second clutch winning goals. In my eyes He is still a GOAT bar none. The game now, is not as exciting like it was then so I watch another clutch player "Tom Brady"..

I agree. The style of play in todays NBA isn’t as appealing and the college game is a joke as compared to not so long ago. The game now is strictly for the players and of course the owners. Fans of my generation know these things but the younger fans have no barometer and actually think LeBron James is hands down the greatest. Hehehe. I will say this….. had LeBron played in the Larry/Magic or Jordan era’s he would be a better player and maybe the GOAT.

Can't say it's ever happened to me personally because I saw Bird play in college before he ever went to the NBA. But anyone who might look at all of these Larry Bird clips on KZbin and still have pause about how good he really was, I would refer you to words once spoken by Laker forward James Worthy, who had many sleepless nights trying to prepare for having to go head to head with Bird in those epic NBA finals the Celtics & Lakers met in so many of during the 1980's. In speaking about Bird, Worthy once said very simply......."Michael Jordan made you look slow. Larry Bird made you look stupid." "Bird played the game like chess while the rest of us were playing it like checkers, and he was always 3 or 4 moves ahead of everyone in his own head."

You know what? I never get tired of watching your videos, i even watch some of your videos over and over again. I hope there will be a future video of Grant Hill too. Because i notice that some people always forget some players who got injured, and got placed on the what if category. But when he was active, he was a monster, just like my favorite Tracy McGrady.

Never been a professional sports fan but still knew about the legend Larry Bird. After learning about his story thru videos like this what he accomplished is nothing short of amazing. The respect he gets today from his teammates, fans and his peers is incredible. His toughness, spirit and dedication to the sport can not be understated. What a great talent and inspiration. Gotta respect the Legend

Thanks for posting...great throwback memories of one of the greatest eras in basketball. I forgot how awesome those CBS Televeison intros were, they used to get you so pumped up....! Later on NBA on NBC had some good intros too. ABC/ESPN treats their NBA games like they're just another one of the billion sporting events they cover. Back then watching an NBA game was an Event!

I watched him play and all I know is he is the most complete basketball player I have ever seen play the game. When all of these greats say he is the best ever that makes you think. And he NEVER talked about himself or tooted his own horn. He just let his playing do the talking and leaves it to others to talk about his greatness.

Larry Bird, Kareem Jabbar and Pete Maravich were the best all around skilled players in the game ! Chamberlain was by far the best overall since he could score 50 any night ,grab 30 rebounds , block 20 shots and throw 20 assists any game... Jordan, Kobe and James round out top 7 of all time with Oscar , Baylor and Jerry West rounding out Top Ten of all time. ... Food for thought ! Thanks !
