The big reason i really heavily dislike Lux's character is because Riot uses her as a ''middle ground'' for justification between the mage rebellion and Demacia, without *actually* tapping in the characteristics of how someone like Lux would engage with those two people. Its literally a ''fly in the milk'' situation, where kids of different ethnical parents have difficulty finding where they belong, since they might look too much as ''the other'' for both sides, while also being alienated from one side's situation and having their own fucked up situation. How much more interesting her character would be if her difficulties in finding a place to belong when she benefitted from being a rich noble kid in Demacia (to the point her being a mage was just a barely disguised secret), while other mages who don't have those luxuries fear the Crownguard, was portrayed (instead of them instantly trusting her and she escaping from basically all prejudice in her own household since she could just say no really hard to the mageseeker Tianna brought to ''cure'' her and everyone would only pretend the problem does not exist). Of course, then Mageseeker showcases that she became, in a few weeks max, a beloved and celebrated leader who managed to find a perfect place for mages to live (even though the terrain right outside of Demacia is constantly said to be not really inhabitable thanks to its forests and marshes) and resist any type of Demacian prosecution, making Leilane's resistance (who she has been building up for YEARS) look like childsplay... and her gripe with Sylas is not that he killed a lot of people in his execution, but that he *revealed she was actually a mage*, which strangely implies she had rather Sylas not use her powers and just get executed? In summary: she has a LOT resting on her shoulders in a storyline that required depth and did not have it, while avoiding any actual deeper question about who she is as a character, who is then used to make a ''maybe the truth lies in the middle'' BS point. Oh, and that thing about her preferring an innocent man had been killed instead of revealing her secret

i think it just because how old lux is and what she portrays at the start of the game, she should've been more complex of a character knowing what kind of f*ckery she has been through and is going through, but riot just decided she will be that annoying, bright, always positive, and joyful character that does no wrong, which ruins the lore around demacia and mages because of how important she is in that storyline, even though it has one of the most interesting and holds a lot of potential, i wish she could be updated and maybe once their done with arcane, they could make a series about demacia too. Lux and Seraphine are similar in the fact that the drama surrounding the character makes them more hated than they should. Either it be Riot favoritism, the annoying nature of alot of their mains or just the fact they're kind of annoying to play against earns them a spot on the forever hated list. Though, Seraphine is a special case, Riot did that character dirty.

I mean honestly in the case of Garen not wanting to kill Lux and beginning to question Demacia. I always thought it was not only because Garen loves his sister but also cause it implies he can use magic or in lore it’s heavily implied he can use it. I mean he literally creates a giant light sword from thin air, sylas got a power boost when he fought him, and I think somewhere in some lore book Garen heals from the sylas fight abnormally fast too. And with all this plus lux being a mage, Garen would probably be like “if lux is a mage and with all the weird shit I can do, am I mage? Am I evil? No? Ok then wtf, are mages evil?” And honestly I hope garens storyline focuses on this aspect, with him slowly realizing that yes… he’s technically always been a mage and intresting character stuff ensues

It's not magical tho. It's a spiritual sword but he's not summoning it using spiritual magic (even if that type of magic is connected with thoughts and emotions). It's the manifestation of his beliefs that take the form of Virtue (Kayle's sword).

The problem with her character is she was a rich noble kid who lived in security and luxury even her being a mage was a barely kept secret while Demacia reenacted concentration camps on mages and she has the GALL to tell Sylas was in the wrong to kill those who kept him imprisoned and CHAINED for over a decade?! Who had to eat rats to survive just because he didn't want to hurt a little girl? Every other mage who want justice and retribution for their treatment? She, a crownguard become a trusted and beloved leader of a faction of mages in barely few weeks? Seriously? Her story is the most frustrating parts of centrism. Someone who has 0 effect even with their power.

The 100% only "real" complaint I hear/have about lux is laning with her E. Its so INSANELY long range and huge that if the lux has a brain and you dont have mobility(see midlane and adc mostly) she guarantees hitting it basically and you just constantly get poked. If they just made minor changes to make it less free I think she'd be in a significantly less "toxic" spot. (Were gonna ignore the 20 second cd ult)

lux main here, the thing i don't like about her is that any lux main can dodge her e even in melee range, but if you don't play lux you have no clue where her e will land, and when you play her quite a bit you can tell from the projectile speed

I think Lux probably gets more hate due to her being one of the poster-children of League. All of those smaller things of having a very simple kit or a VERY basic character model gets magnified with just how popular she is, in both League content and with how often shes seen in matches

YESSS Lux I have been waiting for this. As a lore nerd who doesn't play League itself, she rapidly became one of my faves just because she HAS so much lore going for her. She's that character it's easy to dismiss as a vanilla fantasy cheerleader archetype but that misses everything else she has going on. And while I get people's frustrations with her fence sitting, I also think it's realistic for her character to be trapped between genuinely loving her family and being unwilling to give up her privileged position and slowly realizing the truth about Demacia's cruelty and hypocrisy. If that makes her a bit of a hypocrite too, that tracks with all of the rest of the Demacian champs. Plus I think Mageseeker revealed another side of her that gets frequently overlooked - she's still a Crownguard and raised to be a savvy political operator. Her 'fence sitting' allowed her to play both sides of the conflict without losing her noble privileges (she'd be a traitor to the crown if she joined the rebellion) and she was able to both rally Sylas's help when she needed it despite their grudges AND use her neutral position to successfully negotiate with Jarvan when the dust settled, coming out in the best position to protect the mages under her care, get the Mageseekers disbanded and nudge Jarvan to sign those protections into law. That's some A-grade Crownguard political game from our girl Lux, imo. If there's one thing we all should have learned from Game of Thrones it's that characters from medieval fantasy settings don't have to align to our modern visions of morality to be good characters.

People are quick to judge characters in fiction/fantasy, as if they'd have made a better decision when placed in the situation themselves. They rarely take into account everything about the character, and view the situation as if it's in a vacuum. "Lux didn't help oppressed mages immediately, Lux bad person." Lux is also all of what, 19? 20? And from the second most powerful family in Demacia after the Lightshields. The fact that she was able to give up everything she'd ever known to fight for the common people of Demacia as someone who is barely an adult, is extremely admirable, especially considering her position of nobility and power.

lux was one of my first champions (besides jinx and vayne) that i played when i first tried league so she holds a special place in my heart. my brother’s friend gave me a mystery skin chest and the gavha gods smiled on me and gave me elementalist lux. from there i played her RELIGIOUSLY and got to plat all by myself within 2 years of playing league and i can remember just how fun it was back in season 5-7. nowadays league is so polarizing in quality games so it’s tough to play a few in a day but you hit the nail on the head about her gameplay. simple, but satisfying abilities. we don’t have to talk about the misogyny behind playing lux of all champs and how much harassment i got playing her with a fairly obvious female username BUT playing her got me thru a lot of shit, definitely my comfort champion. you didn’t strike me as a lux player but the way you talked about her made me realize something: you’re a very happy, bright and kind human being!! all lux players are (not to sound conceited or anything so i’ll take the happy person part) to some extent bc her character traits amplify our own in a way. maybe i’m being delulu but i feel that way about the characters we gravitate towards tend to mirror some part of us :> yap session over you’re so cool nicky j boy

Lux was one of the first characters I ever got good with back when I started in season 1. I had so much fun becoming good with my skill shots and sometimes getting fed with Majais Soulstealer. It helps that her VA also voices a character from Danganronpa, my fav series ever. Lux always holds a nice special spot in my heart because I've always been a fan of long range characters in games, and I have a lot of memories of my friends and I popping off when I'd get a huge ult lol.

Back in season 1 Lux was considered to be one of the most complex characters in the game, too. Of course, this was at a time when point and click abilities were the norm, so someone with 4 skillshots was seen as challenging to pilot well! I think she, Ezreal, Janna (lol) and Evelynn had the highest difficulty rankings in the game.

I love Lux so much. Even though some parts of her lore weren't handled well, I relate to her as a queer person, alongside Seraphine (being emotionally & compassionately empathetic and all that jazz. However, Riot did Sera dirty lore / character-wise). Also, I don't mind her being one of the poster-children of League. Both Lux & Seraphine deserved so much better than their misogynistic & homophobic detractors. All Lux needs is a well-deserved ASU, alongside Malphite, by giving her all brand new animations, clean vfx (giving her angel wings in her ult), & emotes that is fun yet follows her lore. Oh, I want her Illuminated character to be her new character model for her upcoming ASU.

the curse of female league champions is they have a great story premise wise, get pared down by riot’s writers having to appeal to the largest possible demographic/make the story toothless, and then leave them to get hated on relentlessly by male fans. :/ seraphine and lux had all the possibility to be people who are flawed yet idealistic but approach their issues in the wrong framework, but then riot writers had to present them as Great and Perfect and reduce them further, while having to address the contradictions of their character (take seraphine knowing brackern are her batteries, and instead of the narrative being she didn’t hear, didn’t understand, or became a protest singer, it just… kinda ignores it and presents her in a shinier way that made her look super evil, or even her approaching the class dynamics of piltover versus zaun as a “we should be equal in a handholding way” rather than criticizing class structure, which still makes her look bad), and then every male fan goes “THIS GIRL IS EVIL AND SHE IS THE WORST!” and really it’s just the writers’ failures/the boardroom execs who need characters to be Cool and Glamorous rather than complex and interesting. it’s really so devastating because i would enjoy lux had her story been she approaches demacia as if the foundations aren’t doomed and clings on to the systems only to find out that those poorer and worse off than her will eternally suffer. but we can’t because we have to just sell skins and make her Cool and Pretty. ignore the queer subtext, loser! just take the fortieth lux skin where fanboys will claw her apart because they don’t like girls!

I will say while I respect Lux gameplay I have both a mindset and hot take: yes she has 4 skill shots but only in the regard of them not being point and click. Can you miss her E, of course, but a massive AoE slow is not the same as landing her Q. Splitting hair, yes, but considering it's debatably her best overall move I feel the difference is worth noting. My hot take meanwhile is that I dont think her E should slow, but her W should and harder. Let's be real, if you're using your W it's to either help an ally, chase, or get away (all situational of course) and two of those are you and an enemy involved. Why not take one of her other TRUE skill shots and have it do a bit of an Ahri effect where it slows on the pass through and then slows again coming back, maybe even getting a little bonus shield or something for landing both? I feel it would add a lot more skill expression to the character while still keeping her 'babys first mage' feel.

Fun fact about Morgana and Lux being similar: That was intentional! Riot once said in a dev blog (can't remember if it was about Lux or Morgana's Rework) that Lux/Morg was designed to be the light/dark to the other's dark/light. Which is highly ironic given that Morgana literally has a sister that is supposed to be the light to her darkness but screw Kayle no one likes her anyway I guess. Queue angry typing on the keyboards of the Kayle mains.

Even though their kits are very similiar, their playstyles still feel very different. Morgana's e and ult lets her play a lot more aggressive and makes you play a lot more in your face. While Lux would rather hit you from the other side of the map. Which is nice to see how two very similiar champs are so different.

I love lux. My first main. Some fun memories from when i played including pairing up with a morgana for a urf game where we made 3 people rage quit, or supporting my adc friend and keeping him alive with clutch shields and yelling at him across to house to fucking run because he had literally 5 hp left still trying to chase down a lucian. I somehow ended up with most her skins (up to 2015) half through gifts, half through poor financial decisions. Man she just so cute.

The only reason people complain so much about Lux is because she is a champion that is associated with female gamers. Literally no other reason. Every argument is fake and stupid. « she got too many skins ! » as many as ezreal and miss fortune yet no one complains about them. Neither do they complain about Kai’Sa and her average of 3 skins a year since her release. Ezreal, MF and Kai’Sa are not associated with female gamers. That’s literally the only difference.

Everyone that complains about "too much skins" talks about Kai'sa and Ezreal. The problem with lux is that the player base is toxic, they think that they are the center of the universe and everyone needs to do what they want. The character is the most basic and annoying thing that riot ever created. Her lore is stupid, the only reason why she became the "bridge" between mages and non-mages is because Silas outed her, otherwise she would never leave the "pretty princess" place. She was ok with the people being tortured and killed in the prison. In fact, the reason why she talked with Silas in the first place is because she thinks he is cute. She has to be the most superficial character in the game. And the main reason why everyone hates her is because she is the only character in the game who can build whatever item she wants and still one shots people from the other side of the map every 20 seconds. She is the most unbalanced character in the game and riot refuses to fix her because every single main lux buys all her skins. And then you remember that this character can be played by a cockroach with only half of a brain and they will be good with it because she doesn't need skill to be played. And if the lux in our team is 1/30 and you say something, they say "at least I'm beautiful" and stays in the base trying to steal kills with her ultimate. And let's not forget what happens if you ban this character. So, no, the "it's because I'm a girl" excuse doesn't stick. The people who play this character are the most toxic people in the game and they don't have any excuse to say otherwise.

i respectfully disagree with both of the comments right now, to some extent. while i do think that a lot of the hate is overblown due to the league fandom’s huge issue with misogyny, i do think that there is quite a lot of criticism by the fanbase on all of their parts that ezreal, yasuo, mf, ahri, _and_ lux get too many skins. yasuo and ezreal are preferred by the male fanbase, ahri’s pretty on the fence, but i don’t like any of them getting more skins than taliyah or rell. and, again, while a lot of the hate is overblown because it should be directed at the writers, lux’s story has the capacity to be good but is also contradictory and pretty shoddy (compelling, definitely, not worse than other stories in league that are also pretty interesting and always mishandled), and it’s just this clusterfuck: criticism is usually misogynistic but there exists real avenue for feedback and improvements, and yet riot will never, ever handle it properly. tldr: hate in lux’s case is too severe and gets riddled with misogyny just as much as any other league champ, but there are genuine reasons to be discussing and taking apart aspects of her (for example, her story) that are ignored.

There's something to be said that a champion as old as Lux has never had a full kit redesign. Her kit has always been great. It synergizes well within itself, it's simple but still has room for skill expression due to having 4 skillshots, and it feels strong but fair to play against, with clear strengths and weaknesses. I'd say she and Orianna are the best designed mages in the game.

For me lux falls into the same category as morgana blitz and thresh, where they are skill shot champions but the skill isn't landing many back to back its surviving until you land one eventually. It doesn't matter if you dodge 1000 lux binds if she lands one mid game and you don't have mr or qss your either instantly dead or you are going back to base. Where other long range mages hit you with a spell you lose hp but their followup isn't impossible to dodge.

Hard disagree. Almost every mage is played this way; the mage class is literally designed this way. Morgana, LeBlanc, Neeko, Syndra, Veigar, Zoe, Ahri, Malzahar, Annie, Lissandra, Brand, Xerath, Twisted Fate, Ryze, Vel'Koz, Fiddlesticks... Land your CC, and follow up with the rest of your kit. It's also very easily countered by items or Cleanse. Lux is not unique in this regard. In fact, some champions (like Lissandra, TF, or Malzahar) don't even NEED to land a skillshot to do this. At least Lux and others give you the opportunity to outplay the initial CC. There's a reason the higher up in rank you go, the less Lux you see.

Xearth, velkoz, ziggs, hwei, you know the long range mages similar to lux all dont have an instant "you die" because you got hit once button. Zoe is the exception but unlike lux Zoe's entire damage is centered around a singular BLOCKABLE spell which is a important distinction. The other like 80% of champions you said are all short range champions that dont play at all like lux.

I like Morgana way more than Lux, simply because Lux is a champion who you feel like you have to stand behind and just spam abilities. Morgana wants to be more in your face, and wants you to use your abilities first before she sends out her Q. Morgana doesnt do the same burst damage, sure. But she just feels so much more satisfying to play in my opinion.

He Binding is fine actually being limited in range if you make use of sorroundings and positions and her passive encourges her to follow up for agreesion to maximize which is cool. Just her shield is nothing with it, like it doesn't give anything with the passive like why can't it be an ability that can be Both used for utility and agression by having it apply the passive and grant her buff after, or just slow and apply it.

as a mid laner, i cant stand lux lol, i value hard to land abilities as the peak of skill expression (ofc its subjective on whether its subjective at all lol), lux's E is nigh impossible to dodge if youre a slower champ pre-boots, a lot of the time it feels like the only way to not get hit is to flash and thats hardly worth it, also her R is WAY too short of a cd for what it provides, being insane damage and vision, ofc bad lux's that never poke probably feel useless outside of R but if youre playing pacifist and you arent a stacking champ you dont deserve to be useful, if you get a free lane youre gonna become elo inflated which i dont care about, but it DOES make players more toxic when theyre inflated, they think "oh, i got to gold so surely im playing fine, its my team who's dragging me down" and a lot of the time they reflect that belief in the in-game chat, i dont hate lux for lux, i hate her for being everything i dislike about league (skill shots are fine, but pretty much guarenteed abilities landing thats actually do damage being masqueraded as a skill shot isnt fine, its the same reason why i hate AP mf) ofc you can still like what you like and play what you wanna play, i just wont touch lux with a 10 foot pole

12:12 that malphite one it's the same problem with a bit of caitlyn and Certainly with Jax. They shouldn't get ASU as their gameplay also sucks ass, Caitlyn's mainly her passive's combination with her kit is a bit nothing, her ult doesn't feel like your sniping anything just pressing button and winning. Jax's passive is still generically stat checky, his combo is slightly more intersting with the ult that does not much with his passive, he still has no sustain to counter being buillied and his counter Strike is still unfair. Oh actually Ahri is perfect aswell, he kit is BORING mainly because it barely combines, her combos are too simple just E and double Q, the R isn't consistent because thats an ultimate and her W and passive barely seem like much. I do agree her W and R should be switched, Her passive should encourge something for kit not just reward her not being too stupid. They fail in their gameplay areas except for maybe caitlyn and Malphite is a perfect example, he fails to have constent engange because the only thing he has is his ultimate, he discourage any interaction at all and has to barely interact himself. He needs a VGU and others need a Gameplay update.

Lux is TOO easy. She lacks a lot of skill expression that you would think a skillshot champ should have. She can poke you with a big zone ability from outside vision radius every 6 seconds and toss snares willy nilly until one hits and then she automatically kills you for it. She can just sit back and fish for oneshots from outside vision radius all day and it's completely uninteractive. Genuinely the worst kit design in the game

Although I do agree that she is way too easy for a skillshot champ, she is meant to be "baby's first artillery mage" to teach new mage players about playing around long range or else you get bursted if you go in too deep. Her combos and weird hitboxes are annoying and have incredible burst but if you have even a slight idea about what Lux does, she becomes 10 times easier to play against.

@@brosam_ Her being an artillery mage is the problem, because shes not actually an artillery mage. Shesx a burst mage first, then an artillery. All of the well designed artillery mages have to poke you constantly to kill you. Ziggs has to hit you with slow moving bombs, Xerath has to shoot out 10 skill shots and hope the other person messes up. Lux's skill shots are notorious for being nearly unmissable, and if you get hit with a single one you are dead 90% of the time. Why does Lux get to insta kill you and poke you down? Why does she get an ult with almost not cooldown? Every other mage in the game has to try and kill you, lux just throws out her skill shots. She only needs one root to hit, and even if you dodge all of them, you'll still be almost dead because of her unmissable aoe "skill shot".

It's not really that there's anything particularly wrong with Lux, it's just the Guilty Gear Bridget effect, where a perfectly fine and harmless character becomes overly hated just because of the sheer vice grip she has on everything League related, to the point where you see her everywhere. This way, people who would've otherwise been completely indifferent towards her character now hate her simply because everywhere they look, they see her. It's an oversaturation problem.

My dislike for Lux stems from the overusage of Lux support. As a former support player, most of my matches where seeing this midlane champ being played by E-Girls who know jackshit and only play with their duos, they see Lux and they think she's a support just because she's some cute blondie that giggles. I would even say Lux started the "damage support" epidemic we see nowadays, I hate damage supports as a whole, Vel'Koz, Lux, or Swain to me arent supports, they are midlane mages who got shoved to the botlane thanks to Riot's balancing decisitions.

Context: I'm a Support main. I have OGM7 Morgana, Soraka, Shen [Yes, support Shen because...], Yuumi [This is why, Shen dumpsters these non-Ezreal duos] and Senna [RIP Frozen Mallet]. I HATE Lux because she is exactly what Pyke and Senna are: Champions designed for another role, BUT also designed for Support. Pyke should NOT deal damage, Senna SHOULDN'T exist, and Lux/Seraphine are NOT SUPPORTS. Lux specifically deals way too much damage, has hitboxes far larger than they visually look, has the dumbest slow effect on her E for ZERO reason, and no matter how behind she is she can just root someone and 100 to 0 them if they aren't a tank. I hate playing games and losing to someone out of nowhere, it feels awful. When I play support against a Lux, I have to remember that she can kill me unlike most normal, ACTUAL supports. She isn't fun to face and she's boring to play.
