Great to see other enlisted members doing school while in. Finished my B.S. from E-3 to E-4, which was a huge contributor to making E-5 the first time. The majority of enlisted military is so complacent and lazy. Good luck with commissioning man, its definitely worth the extra work....especially if you plan to retire! $4,500 officer pension over a $2,000 enlisted is kind of a no brainer.

I think it'll be much more than 4500 if you retire as an officer since your rank will be considerably higher than a captain or any enlisted rank.

Been researching around, and I understand that serving the country and doing your job is a priority. Keep in mind, if you want to pay for college, job comes first, then the benefit. Either do a few classes after spending a 2 years on training and adjusting to your job so you perform the best you can, and finish college after your contract. Or do your 4 years, then use your GI bill to pay for your bachelors, full focused on college. That's pretty much the generalization I've come up with. I'm going to enlist because I truly believe the military will give you things you just can't get anywhere else. I'm going for AV, hoping to get AT O level, and then go for either Electrical Engineering or Computer Science. OCS will be considered if I think the military will offer a better career than other offers.

Your channel has become a valuable resource and helped alter my perspective for the better. At 18 I entered the health-care field as a dietary aid. 19 I became a certified nursing assistant with the intention of becoming a registered nurse. 22 I became an (ASCP)PBT and (AMT) MLA with the intention of becoming a lab scientist. Currently 24 I am a rehab tech with the final decision to attain my associates/bachelor's degree in radiology. In between the two degrees I will specialize in three different types of rad/sono. The hospital I work for offers tuition assistance. Then at 28 I will start the application process to join the AF Reserves as an officer. I was kicking myself for not joining the military sooner because I thought if I was in there at 18,I would currently have had a degree. After watching your videos and a few others, it seems whether or not I joined the military, I mostly likely wouldn't have obtained a degree in the same time because between 18-22 I was, immature, unfocused, indecisive and naive. I believe young people assume the military will give them a sense of direction, which it does, but ultimately it depends on the individuals maturity level, experience, and ambition. If I joined the military before I would have done 6yrs enlisted and left without utilizing any of the resources. Now at 24 I'm looking at taking everything from the civilian sector and the military that I can while also willing to sacrifice what my younger self wasn't prepared to sacrifice. Your content is beneficial not only to 18-22yr olds but to anyone else who has a goal that may include the military. Thank you and keep up the hard work.

It's kind of a different story if you went STRAIGHT reserves. Obviously you have a lot more time and you can stockpile a lot more classes. However the reserve GI bill won't get you very far and often times you'll have to pay out of pocket. Luckily there are ATs, ADTs, and deployments to help fund your college education. Also if you're an E-4 and below these's a decent chance you'll qualify for financial aid since you're not making that much money (Unless you make a lot on the civilian side). What many of the young Sailors in my unit do is pay out of pocket for the first 2 years of college at a local community college then go on a deployment and finish the final 2 years at a university. Most of them essentially work their way through school rather than relying too heavily on the GI bill. Many of them use the GI bill to get their Master's. Those coming off active duty into the reserves use the G.I. bill to it's fullest. Those who went STRAIGHT into the reserves are kind of in a "meet me halfway" situation.

I did EMT courses while on a Med Cruise back in the mid 80's (nothing else to do with free time on an 7-8 mth cruise), didn't completely finish, however it sparked my interest and ended up RN later in my career. The ability to earn a degree online was something that was not available back then... the internet and online degrees (some geared toward miltary lifestyle) make it so much easier to earn a degree now-a-days.

I Join the USN 1960, all through my 20 years I would take courses using tuition aid. (3/4) cost of course. When I retired I waited one year and they started at Mesa College for an associates, then went to UCSD for the rest of the 4 years. Because of previous course in the USN (college courses), I graduated in 1989 with 200 semester units and a 3.48 GPA. My aunt who worked at Miami University, Oxford Ohio advised me to go in the Miltary, for a few years and I would do better in college. How right she was, Thanks Aunt Mable.

@ronaldchisholm2268 5 жыл бұрын
AMU has regional accreditation as well as for its specific business, healthcare, public health programs and so forth. Even the MPH is accredited and doctors from major universities are students. AMU is affordable! Don’t enter the Navy with just your AA/AS/AAS degree. At least, an associate degree + 30 additional degree credits. Because you use TA & finish your 1st degree & work on your 2nd BA/BS/BSW of your choice. DoAF, DOA & DON prefer enlisted service members with 2 undergrad degrees. Doors open for DC or OCS. Now, best caveat is that you can be considered for graduate school at NPS, and/or AFIT. The 1st enlisted guy to receive a PhD was a Army MSG. Now SGM but if he transition to Commissioned Officer, he’ll be DC to captain. Progression to 0-4 & possibly 0-5 for retirement.

So if you take classes while you're currently enlisted in the military, do they pay for it all? Or do they take that out of your post 9/11 GI?

Elijah White tuition assistance is what I mentioned which is a benefit while active duty. The post 9/11 is a veteran benefit which can be used while active duty or after. You do not get the housing benefits if you use it while active duty.

What if you have your degree already and it's an associates degree that is from a technical college/trade school would you still get a higher rank in that degree that is related with your degree if it's an associates. Still thinking about going to the Navy and want to do Medical Lab Tech in the Navy or at least get a associates degree in that field. I already have my associates in Medical Assistant would that help get a better rank/more advanced in my career also if you already went to a university before enlisting would they pay all of your tuition off.
