It's sad that her audiences usually paid her little respect. If any of you who read this comment ever get a chance to read "Nico: The Life and Lies of an Icon," fucking read it! It's one of the best books I've ever read in my life.

I was (lucky to be) at a performance of hers in the early 80's. I was saddened by the reactions of many in the audience who were only there for other acts in the show like Dead Or Alive and The Damned and New Order. They were close-minded for "different" acts like Nico, who gave a professional performance despite the reaction of the ignorant philistines. I was only in my twenties but thought of them as stupid kids.

Very telling that you had that reaction. She should have been performing Grand stages in Europe.

So glad this gig was caught on film, despite feeling a tinge of sadness over the kind of venues she was playing. In 82 these tossers were more poseur than punk, as around 77 or 78. The shits from her backing band who slag her off just do so as their cash cow has gone. She was actually quite charming and vulnerable as well as a tough trooper with an unforgettable magnetism and immense talent. I love the disapproving look she gives just as the back up starts.

I met her soon after that. I was following the Scottish band “ The Scars” and the band were kindly putting me up through part of the tour. One evening Bobby the lead singers girlfriend turned up, meet Nico, the guys said. There we were I had no idea of her or the Velvet, I did after that though. She was quiet and polite putting up with a daft wee innocent Scots lads questions.

A talented beautiful woman. Hard to believe she was born in 1938. Considering this was the 1980s, I would have thought more like 1948. She carried her age very well.

I actually saw Nico live around this time - at Brixton, used to be a cinema - not the Academy. She was great and played her harmonium too. Here, she seems a lot more engaged than in the other clips from this Preston concert. The audience was obviously terrible, disrespectful, and talking all the time. At Brixton, the audience listened respectfully, but was quite small, considering Nico's status and involvement with what is now seen as a seminal, and highly influential ,group and their records - The Velvet Underground. Though her solo work post Velvets is brilliant and original, and highly underrated. She was a great artist, and fully deserves her iconic status - just a pity that she didn't seem to prosper, or get the respect and recognition she deserved during her life.
