When my son transitioned from baritone to tenor at 15, I told him that Gedda was someone to learn from and emulate, because he makes producing beautiful tone look effortless, and his diction is always flawless. Now my son is in his early thirties and singing opera in Chicago, specializing in the Mozart roles.

I can praise Gedda for days but for this particular live performance, I admire his vocal control. How effortless he made it sound from top to bottom. He just stood there, opened his mouth and sang with the typical bright timbre that he was well known for. That slight smirk after the last note was like "this was easy". Many tenors when singing live don't look this relaxed and in control at all. It seems like they are wrestling with their own voices to make it sound good. In some cases, I feel some bottons on their jackets about to burst open when they try to hit those long/high notes. Way too laboured unlike Gedda did it here. Truly the maestro.

I was priviliged to have met Nicolai Gedda in Stockholm and even had a few lessons when he was well above 70! Still his voice was AMAZING! And I also had Jan Eyron his accompanist as my accompanist! We used to have long sessions of coaching, he never wanted to stop! He was great! I learned so much from Jan too!!!! Great teachers both! Great memories, they made me sing like a goddess! So optimistic and well meaning teachers with a lot of love! ❤️ 😊🎉 and I was born 1969 😅 when this recording is from

Hi, Brian, I just repeated my comment on another video, not even realising I'd said this about every note being a singing lesson. Really such a pleasure to hear a perfect singer singing just perfectly. RIP Maestro.

This man heard a young Brian Blessed sing when he was in drama school in Bristol UK, and he wanted to whisk him off there and then to be a star at La Scala. Brian, clearly blown by the proposition, had to decline; drama and was his forte, and more expressive. Of course Brian’s now a national treasure in Britain, Nicolai certainly saw the potential in him.
