Tbh it just made the game more casual. It was always an important decision whether or not I am able to overpower the enemy with more mana or if I need the extra sustain of health pots to stay in lane. Also supports... many supports.

3:20 The thing about Vincent is, First of all, he is smurfing, which guarantees a winning lane most of the time. Secondly, his support is usually his duo partner which is also a smurf. The support usually pick lockdown heavy champions like Leona or Thresh (if not banned, Thresh is preferred since the lantern can also save Vincent) Combine these two factors together and you get the worst experience in low MMR games. It's not really the "lucky kills", but more like the result of duo smurfing

There's another factor: by the time he did those streaks, Draven was absolutelly BROKEN! He had a passive bleed on his Q (similar to Darius), and his default passive granted an absurd amount of extra damage. I remember that my first pentakill happened with this Draven from the past, and I got two at the same game.

I was using a lot mana potions. Mana potions being removed is a huge nerf to mana champions that aren't able to poke as much as back then.

@@Drkflood2 it could be that Sword of the Occult scales so well with ADC's. Their main damage output being right-clicking means that once they got ahead there was nothing you could do cause they would just run you down right-clicking. Mejai's however only works on abilities which are often skillshots of some sorts. IDK. Could also be that they didn't want every AD item to have an AP counterpart so that there would be some diversity between the two. Hell, look at all the AD items that grant MR...Now look at the AP items that grant AR...all you got is Zhonya's and mage players have been screaming at Riot YEARS to give them something that mages can buy early against assassins but assassins are flashy and look cool on LCS screens so nah.

Hey just a heads up, Leviathan was actually removed in Preseason 3 when they released Nami -- so that's 2012, it survived long past Alpha.

I disagree on the mana potion thing, it was a tradeoff that added more depth to the game. The potion let you spam abilities more often which might pay off in the long run but it costs you gold. Even vision was a trade between additional power for yourself or much needed sight for your team.

They are still here. For supports. Cuz buying those gold per sec items on any other role is just straight unfair. While supports sometimes can ward, not being able to poke or get assist (like you recalled with 10hp, your adc didnt kill the enemy, but did that 20 sec later, so you dont get anything from that kill). At least support cant just take the farm for free cuz their gold per sec will stop for a while. The only sad item removed was the coin as a supp item. The utility one, giving only some hp and mp regen and max hp. But also 5 gold every minion dying close to you. That was amazing for any supp that had adc who was farming a lot. It also had its stoppers. But it was such amazing item when you were Soraka or Janna and enemy had Brand and Draven, oneshoting you. So you werent so poor and useless as you could get some money anyway to have AT LEAST A CHANCE to win the lane.

In regards to Sword of the Occult vs Soulstealer, both can only be countered by dying to consistent damage, which is negated if you can heal back to full health. Stacking items became overpowered when combined with Vamp items, such as Lifesteal or Spell Vamp. But Lifesteal is strong and easy to build, whereas Spell Vamp was inconsistent. Therefore, ad stacking was broken whereas ap stacking is not. Like you said, the weakness of stacking items was dying, but Lifesteal meant not dying.

As a main support that have witness these changes i have to say 2 things about the Green wards and the mana potion. Had riot not reworked or introduced useful starter support items(which were downgraded in the last 2 seasons because riot does not know to to fix supports or support items) that Grant wards or if they had not indroduced the holy trininy of trinkets, supports would be still on the ground and get even more underestimated. Riot removed the mana potion but buffed any item with mana regen in the years that came after, even going far enough that they introduced good mana regen in the current rune system. If they had not done that, heavily mana dependant champions would struggle alot. I mean even now sometimes they increase the mana Cost of abilities to nerf champions. You can't rush tear of godness every time you need mana cause You will be left behind alot of the time. They removed thes items but fixed their removal or even worked something out. Some items will not return to game due to their power but maybe downgrade version of them will return. You know, like the new support starter items we currently have that are downgrade versions of the old ones but without truly fixing the problem that their predecessors created. Instead of becoming exclusive items like the jungle items they have a minor nerf in gold to any person that buys it.

The main problem with Sword of the occult was that AD tends to snowball way harder than AP. AD "stacks" itself with Crit Chance, Crit Damage, Attackspeed and Lifesteal, making it so valuable. AP just "stacks" with CDR really.

Remember when they used to actually add and remove items to change the meta in new season? Wow that was wild, now we just get 2 new masteries and some *almost* inconsequential changes (in term of champions meta) to the map, I loved when a champ could rose from low tier to op just because a new item was added, or just team comps revolving around dumb ideas like the ZZrott and banner combo before it was utterly broken by the ZZrot buffs. Now it just feels like you just have 1 meta and you better stick to it because we can't ruin the pro's fun.

what's funny is back then when ancient coin upgrade was still a thing, (not the one that gives wards the one that grants movement speed) I used to build it a lot in Thresh along with Ohmwrecker. These two items allowed me to set up dives without any consequences. Include from this the old Righteous Glory, which grants a burst of movement speed to your allies before too. Popping talisman of ascension and righteous glory allows you to bring your team in a dive with an amazing burst of movement speed, then once you reached the tower use homewrecker and you can have a free pick or even an ace. Add to this build a locket of solari and you can even set up a clash under enemy's tower. Ohmwrecker also gave you MS when near buildings which allowed you to trap several people in your ult easily, and its effect actually lasts quite long.

I just hate, that there are like 7 Items and thats it. I like more diversity and everytime they remove items i wanna cry a little. It feels like there is no real deal with diverent Itemkits. Yes i know some people go some other items first and stuff... but i would love to see 10 or more items coming next season just to have more. And i often don't understand why they delete ITems. As example, the second Potion you yould buy if you upgraded your "Junglerpotion (The green one for 150)", yes only 2 people in the whole world used it, but why delete it then? It was not op and killing something because it is shit is stupid, because some people still used it in their own way... I just wait for the day, every new/reworked champ gets a dash and is categoried as Supp/Assassine because... fuck you riot. Just saying.

Just to clarify, Leviathan was in the game after alpha. I personally used to stack all 3 items, and I don't have the King Rammus skin awarded to alpha testers. I'd say the time frame is more between Alpha and Season 1. Not sure what most call it, but i refer to that time as "pre-season 1" or before metas.

I honestly REALLY miss boot enchantments, they were such an interesting way to kind of spice up your build. You wanna surprise your laner with getting back to lane faster? Get homeguards at 9 minutes and do that. You want some extra ms on you berserkers? Get some alacrity. Wanna be a kiting MACHINE ? Get furor, and show everyone how good your orb walking is. Want to rally your teammates when you engage on the enemy team? Get the last one, that sadly I not only forget the name of, but also dont care enough to look up. green ward was not removed because of the old support meta, the adding of gold gen item and the addege of trinket happened a long time before removing green ward. the main reason was for pro play their was to much vision available with avery champion able to drop 3 wards fairly easaly and not enough way to removed vision, oracle lens was added at the same time as the green ward was removed. if anything the removal of green wards cemented the role of support to warding since suddenly only none of the other player could provide as much vision.

The splitpush items being removed sucks. They could've just tweaked it to be more fair, or even easier to counter, but at least it's another method to winning turrets. Y'all miss Zz'Rot but I miss Banner the most for having at least a small interaction with your own minions. They fight for you too, even if they're annoying sometimes

I used to play mid lane Zilean and mana pots were very important to grab for him. Then they removed them and there wasn't really a great way to get mana fast at the time. And then I started playing a lot of top lane and picked up Nasus. Being that Nasus is usually pretty easy to bully out of lane I LOVED Zz'rot Portal or more specifically Raptor's Cloak which would give armor (good against most top laners) and it would give movement speed while around towers so I could get back to lane much faster without needing Teleport ALL the time. Then once I had Portal I could split push like mad after lane phase was over and at that point it would be very difficult to stop me without having at least 3 people.

I loved playing Klepto Janna with Zz'rot and Banner of Command. You got a fun mini game during laning phase with proccing Klepto and mid to late game you could shove sidelanes with Banner and place Zz'rot while warding to build up more lane pressure, something a support Janna , usually can't do at all. It helps when behind and your baboons of teammates don't fix their sidelanes and you really felt like a support and secret captain of the team. Good old times...

Tbh, riot reworking wards really helped a lot, got rid of the stress of having to roam ward the whole map and getting flamed for not warding top/mid lanes because they're manchild who cant buy a pink ward for themselves

I remember the ultimate GP exodia build when I first started You got all the GPS (Kage's Lucky Pick, Avarice Blade, Philosopher's Stone and another GPS item) then you went for Sword of the Occult, Leviathan, Mejai's and whatever item you wanted usually Atma, Warmog and boots

You re wrong, the gp exodia build was infinity and pd, lvl 7 and your q would do 1.5k dmg with crit, that was for a few weeks, the most broken assassin known to game, even now i remember, 21/4, min 27, i crit a cait for 3.8k dmg with 1 q , that was the exodia.

Adding Mejai's into the mix just makes him heal a sizable chunk of his titanic health back too

Saulė True, unless you are diamond 1+ you won’t know how to manage his mana. I hate playing him. I run out of mana every 10 seconds. But high elo players know how to manage. Still hard

I was there in the dark time. I was there when the only thing we supports could buy were wards and gp5 items so we could afford them without taking any minion last hits. I was also there when Gangplank had the ability to kill a minion to "boost morale" of all allies around. It became insanely broken when you would go mid, stack ap (for a rediculous orange heal) and just deny the cannon minions every wave. This was also the time his shot did extra damage to minions and reset on a kill. So he could farm with impunity and if the enemy mid tried anything he would just eat and orange and it was k.

It makes sense for sword to be removed and not mejai’s because AP champs generally need more ap bc their abilities are on cooldown while ad champs auto attack one after another why ap champs have to wait, therefore they get more AP
