It's amazing how clay pipes could stay intact for all those centuries. Really, really loved that toy soldier. He is incredibly detailed.

The eagle button is from the U.S. Military, and from my research, seems to be from the army in World War I, so the same time line as the French flag bearer figure. The U.S. Army had similar styled buttons in both world wars (I remember seeing eagle buttons on my father's WW II uniform), but the brass from which they were made was a little different between wars. The WW I had the color more similar to what you found, while the WWII button took on a slightly different patina. And I laughed at the I am Brett shirt because I recalled the episode immediately. An all time classic moment in mudlark history!

I remember the "I am brett" episode 😂. I also remember telling you I had a Lambretta LI 150 scooter in the 60s. I was shouting at the TV at the time 😂. I will definitely try and get a t shirt ❤.

I think there were quite a few of us shouting at the screen 😂 What I still haven't found out, is why I recognized the sign in the first place. My siblings are quite adamant that our father never owned a Lambretta, but had only a Zündapp Bella. This was in the late fifties. And I was as proud as Punch when father fetched me from school on his scooter.

Greetings from Kernersville, North Carolina, USA….I thoroughly enjoyed your “mudlarking” video. I loved every item you found, but that little soldier stole my heart. I guess, because my brothers played with army men when were kids in the late ‘50’s and early ‘60’s…..such sweet nostalgia. You have such a pleasant manner and I want to thank you for sharing with us.

I enjoyed reading "I am Brett" more on Nicola's contours than on Simon's, but I am glad that Simon realised the importance of the Cormorant when designing the logo. With reference to the bathing pigeons: Because my cats had been drinking out of a big bird bath much frequented by woodpigeons, I tried to avoid any potential conflicts by buying the cats a nice big earthernware dish with a silicone rubber base, so it could sit on a paving stone without wobbling as the cats drank. The blackbirds immediately said "ta, that'll do!" and adopted the cat water dish as *their* bath and the cats, who do not pick fights with the blackbirds and their stabby beaks, went back to the big bird bath. The next thing I knew was a sudden cloud of pigeon-feathers! I am being called away by a distant meowing coming through an open window...
@divaden47

Ah, this is so cool! Such a great story!! Literally!! My bird bath water is usually sullied by the Magpies dropping in clumps of bread to soften it, and then leaving the majority of it behind so rendering it useless for bathing!! I don't imagine my PIggies (my flock nickname) fancy getting soggy bread in their wings!!
@matthewspencer5086
@matthewspencer5086 4 ай бұрын
@@divaden47 There used to be a pair of crows living near "Longholme" on the river Ouse in the middle of Bedford, and they used to drop little bits of bread (stolen from the swans and geese) in a little pool that had formed behind a gap in the steel reinforcements securing the river bank. Minnows would swim up to eat the bread, and the crows would catch and eat the minnows! The River Authority spoilt the fun by replacing all the old steel piles, though.

Nicola, your message in a bottle was meant for the infernal underworld, specifically it's addressed to the demon Amdusias. The symbol in the middle, with his name around it, is his 'sigil' - his special symbol to which he must respond when conjured. The drawing of such a sigil on a piece of paper is a way to conjure the demon. And warning : the paper may also have drops of blood on it. Amdusias is not a particularly malevolent demon and is in fact rather musical. Here's a reference from the 'Pseudomonarchia Daemonium : Amduscias a great and a strong duke, he commeth foorth as an unicorne, when he standeth before his maister in humane shape, being commanded, he easilie bringeth to passe, that trumpets and all musicall instruments may be heard and not seene, and also that trees shall bend and incline, according to the conjurors will, he is excellent among familiars, and hath nine and twentie legions (of lesser demons under his command) [ref] Weyer, Johann. “Amduscias.” Pseudomonarchia Daemonum. 1583. I wonder if the lady witch got an answer to her question ?

When you first exclaimed “Percy!” I instantly thought of Thomas the Tank Engine’s little green best friend 😊 I thought I saw a coin in the top right corner of the screen as you were putting Percy in your bag, but it was so obvious and you’re so good at spotting the most hard-to-see / camouflaged things I thought it must have been just a bit of stuff. There were quite a few bits and pieces in that spot I’d’ve loved to pick up and examine though! I clocked your I am Brett t-shirt straight away and had a good chuckle. Simon is so sweet, such a good sport - nearly as gorgeous as you 😊 Your videography is such a treat to watch, I love this one in particular, the way you frame the patterns under the bridges etc. And the fun faces you pop in - I love that you take the time to make them for us, it shows how you’re really thinking about your viewers while you’re filming. Simon is so cheeky. He never ceases to amuse me. He's the type of person you long to just want to be around. So good natured. You both are incredible people.

19:50 I do actually get the heebie jeebies when you rub coins with your thumb! I don't know why.. its a sensory thing.. I think, "oh please stop rubbing it with your thumb.."... it's like I can feel your fingerprints rubbing the raised imprint and I can't cope.. funny other people experience this feeling too!! 😂

Hi Nichola it's Mike from Seattle Washington. You should go out by about 100 pounds worth of Old Hay pennies. Maybe have them engraved your name on them and throw them out at low tide. I've been doing that with old bottles except the engraving part... and a old change nickels and pennies for those metal detectors-wrists To find in 50 years it's fun screw with the future. Anyway glad to have you back on the Sunday morning.xoxo.x.

I always love your intros, Nicola! Those geese are so good to see amongst the noise and mayhem of London. And the tiny one doing that ballet pose was so sweet! Some lovely finds! Amazing how much money you find out there! And so good of you to donate it! I’d love to see you and some of the items found in that September festival, alas, Australia is a bit far away to pop over for a few days! But I’m sure you’ll put some coverage of it on your channel to share. Keep enjoying what you do, and all your friends too. ❤️😊

Your finds are great I like military buttons so much. My brother was in the army when the Vietnam war began. He passed away with prostrate cancer from Agent Orange. Love the military lead person, coins, and everything else you found. Your shirts, bags and cups are awesome Simon did a fantastic job modeling everything. The logo he made is beautiful. I had a hard time with him doing the tree modeling, I laughed so hard almost busting my gut. He is a crazy guy 😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣

You made out like a bandit you've got the buttons, you've got the coins, you've got the sculptures. That's pretty cool. I really like the lion and the French soldier.

It never ceases to amaze me that something as fragile as a clay pipe, especially one from the 17th. century, can survive for over 300 years on the Thames foreshore after countless tidal washes!
