From the synopsis for next week it seems like Maeve and Nicole will survive hopefully. But I will not excuse what the writers did. Not even married for 5 minutes and they have this storyline and assuming Maeve will either be paralyzed or something. Im more nervous for Nicole that she hadn’t been checked out and collapses normally in shows that person does (I’m nervous). I’m so tired of the lesbian trope can we get one happy lesbian couple and nothing drastically happening right being blissful

I'm sorry but while I agree the complaints about our couples being unhappy sucks most of the time, Shortland Street is a soap and if they don't have drama they don't have airtime. Railing about this every time without looking at context doesn't help us either in getting airtime/importance for our couples.

Had Shortland Street not done "life hanging in the balance" storylines for their het couples since the show's inception I'd be fuming but this I've seen on this show countless times. Like the woman playing Maeve's mom played a character on this same show that had something along these lines happen to her. This isn't a byg trope as some on twitter are screaming it is

@@DarkAnge3714 I get that having a soap is going to be filled with drama. The difference between drama and having lesbian trope are two different things. In almost every show with a lesbian couple they have 5 seconds of happiness to huge dramatic death. I ain’t saying this storyline is bad it’s the timing and I’m a bit disappointed that the writers went this route. It would’ve been better if they waited for this storyline a bit until at least after the honeymoon. And you can’t say the writers do this for all the couples bc since Zara and Boyd being married they had 0 tragic storyline. They are happy and cute while we have Maeve and Nicole not even married for 2 seconds and both are hanging by the thread to survive which is my big issue!

@@valllyy2691 the fact it took them this long to have something happen to Maeve/Nic is very surprising imo given what usually happens. They've basically been fluff since they got together. Zara/Boyd aren't a popular pairing (not to the level of past pairings or even Maeve/Nic) but they had their Xmas cliffhanger with the bomb stuff

I have a feeling they'll make it through this as well. I mean, most people already know the show films 2 months in advance (unlike American soaps) and already know that SPOILER: none of them dies.

For some reason, think one of them will have complications to deal w/ then they will have a strained marriage for awhile which may drive Maeve into the arms of Theo. Still think maybe they did that little flirting scene for a reason. Plus, they've alway harped on the fact Maeve doesn't cheat and it being a soap and all, I'm pretty sure she'll cheat.

What’s with this story lines when it comes to lgbtq+ couples/characters? I believe they are people and life happens same as others then why they don’t get happy moments which lasts and without any tragedy the moment they are shown happy? Literally doesn’t make sense or just I am angry and upset with watching this stuff everywhere doesn’t matter what country it is same everywhere. Hate it!

Dawn lost her baby last week. Chris' son died the week before. Harper thought she had an chronic illness and a brain tumour until it turned out to be a parasite. Boyd and Zara were in an exploding ambulance at Christmas, he still wears hearing aids from it. Leanne had a stroke this year. Damo's had a liver transplant and has been in hospital multiple times in the last year. Emily was murdered. Shereez was drugged by her flatmate. Curtis was knifed. Eddie got beaten up. Ben died after a fire. Louie was in a wheelchair. Sophie was admitted to a mental institution. That's just some of what characters have been through on the show in the last year. I understand how it feels and I too have railed against the Bury Your Gays trope, but it's a medical soap and medical dramas will happen on it.
