When I discovered Obsidian, my mind was blown. Since then, it’s the app I spend more hours in. But then, I discovered your channel, and now I’m even more obsessed (and productive)! Thank you for making such well scripted, well edited, well explained, thoughtful and entertaining videos. Your education style is amazing (clear, detailed and to the point, accessible, fun) and the content is of so much value. Big thank you for putting so much effort in teaching us for free, so abundant! Happy 2023/gelukkig nieuwjaar/Feliz Ano Novo/Feliz año nuevo to you and your loved ones, and much success in your endeavors ✨

thank you for writing these in a way that builds upon the previous app or extension plug in, rather than throwing out random ones that we could choose from without being able to compare them based on overlapping features/use cases. the mid-roll ads were hard on my attention span, and i had to rewind, but i still managed and you unlocked some fresh takes i needed to break out of a rut.

Thank you for this comprehensive video. I set up Time Stamp Notes, and have it going. Since I also use 2 screens, I looked for a method to use this plugin while having the video show full screen on one of my screen, and my video notes on the other. Good news, it is possible! Here is my simple method: 1) Open the video by the plugin in the inspector as shown here. 2) detach your note from the main Obsidian window and drag it to the screen where you want notes to be taken 3) leave your main Obsidian window with the video if this is the screen where you want to view it, or drag it to the other screen if you rather see it there 3) push on the fullscreen bottom at the right inferior corner of the video (next to the KZbin logo), and you are set! Commands work perfect with this setting.

Nicole! I just watched your tutorial regarding Dataview, Metadata, YALM etc this afternoon and now there is new video🎉. I hope that as I non-tech like me, you can shoot more video regarding how to write metadata, what is ::, where to self-learn those stuff. ❤
@nicolevdh
@nicolevdh Жыл бұрын
Hi! Glad to hear it! Hmmm, since you've already watched those videos, I'm unsure what else to talk about. Metadata consists of the parameters and values that you add, the ones that can be used for Dataview. So you can use them in the YAML frontmatter as parameter: value or in the body of the note as Parameter:: value. If you would be willing to clarify what more about metadata you'd like to learn, maybe I can help better. :)

Hi Nicole, great video! I've stumbled upon the same findings as you have in my journey to find the best KZbin video notation method. Very good stuff indeed. I've found a neat little trick that improves so many workflows, including taking KZbin video notes with the Timestamp Notes plugin. Perhaps you've considered this before, I think it's so powerful: 1. Install and use the Commander plugin 2. Go to the settings for Commander plugin > Macro tab 3. Create a macro, action #1 can be Timestamp Notes: Pause video, action #2 can be Timestamp Notes: Insert timestamp. 4. Set a hotkey to this macro. The result will be that it both pauses and inserts the timestamp into your note. Commander macros are just so powerful, I'm still exploring how many different use-cases it provides! Hope that helps. Thanks for posting videos like this on your channel!

Thanks for the tip! To further expand on this, add another hotkey to pause/unpause the video so that once you have taken your note you can start the video again and continue on. I use the Global Hotkeys plugin for my hotkeys in Obsidian so that I can trigger Obsidian actions even is it is not the currently active window. Taking the suggested steps, I have Global Hotkeys set with "Super+Alt+Ctrl+T" to trigger a timestamp. Then I can use "Super+Alt+Ctrl+Space" to unpause the video and keep going. Using the "Super+Alt+Ctrl+[key]" combo helps ensure I don't collide with any other Windows hotkeys. (also works nicely for me as a left-handed person with my keyboard having CTRL, Win, and ALT keys in a row).

I find a lot of videos I reference are taken off KZbin or deleted by the content creator. So I end up downloading a local copy of the video for preservation as well as learning. Is there any way to embed local videos timestamps into Obsidian or an embedded player from locally sourced videos? Thanks so much for your in-depth content!

Likely too late to help original poster, but I personally used media extended for local files previously, and in those cases, the timestamps actually move the video to the time specified, instead of going to an external app.

Thanks for the video, Nicole. It showed me a new way to interact with youtube videos. At first i tried timestamps plugin, but I quicly realized how inconvenient it is. Then I tried readwise. I still think readwise way of working with youtube videos is the most conveniant and usefull - I don't think someone really need these timestamps, when you can actually see the text in front of your eyes. The main problem with readwise - it's expensive for me. Now I'm looking for alternatives, but none as such usefull and easy-to-use as readwise. Glasp is the only real free alternative, but they have a lot of disadvantages though. P.S. readwise reader is good for reading books, but I still more into zotero integration with obsidian. Unfortunatelly, they don't really support epub and android. Android is on-the-way, but for epub I will try obsidian plugin for notetaking. On screenshots it looks really beautiful

Nicole, I use a web service called WordTune Read. It provides a transcript and summary points/notes of a video. I simply copy and paste the video notes in my Mem notebook. Thanks for a great video! For me an ideal solution would be to create another type of markdown export in Yinote, so that the exported note is not only in markdown, but also supports Timestamp Notes plugin codeblock syntax. That way I could use Yinote to comfortably make notes with autopause in a browser, but then when the notes are exported, they'd open up in the vault as if they were created in Timestamp Notes, with video opening in the sidebar etc. I'm pretty sure it should be quite simple, maybe as an option for the markdown export to support Timestamp Notes syntax.

They said they would implement this feature in Obsidian in version 1.3.2 If it has been implemented by now, can you please do an updated video on how to use this feature in Obsidian without having to use plugins? Can we link to timestamps? Will the video timestamps work without leaving the Obsidian note? I hope Obsidian has added this as a core feature. If they have, I would really love to learn how to use it, because it would be very useful for doing research & taking good notes on specific subjects.

Windows doesn't recognise the Command key, so do you mean CTRL? If so, maybe try another shortcut. CTRL+P is usually printing (Obsidian uses Electron, so it behaves similarly to Chrome), so it may be that your hotkey isn't unique enough.

Also you do not explain how you get "time save" from player!

This is not so good since if you were to stray away from the video that you opened through "Media extended", you will come back to something that is unrecognizable! If you embed the video with the embed code, at least you have the video there and you can go back and forth with it!

Dang you found something I haven't tried to use Reader for yet! :D Looks really useful! I HAVE really enjoyed using Reader already and I played around with Ghostreader. I really like the summary :D

0:00 As a German that just baked a bread plait for New Year, I have to point out that this is not how you properly fold a pretzel 🥨 As a Notetaker that dwells far too much here on KZbin, getting not just one but 5.5 methods for capturing information is absolutely amazing! 📺

Haha! I didn't even notice about the pretzel. :D Happy to give you options! I probably also spend a little too much time on KZbin. ;)

@@nicolevdh Looks like there's one explanation for why you had such a rich assortment of notetaking specifically for KZbin, haha. If nothing else, it's a testament that you are very methodological and iterative about your notetaking habit. Aside from s I used a very brute-force approach to switch between the browser and the open note, jotting down timestamps without convenient links to the video.

Is a big difference between embedding video via or ![]()?

Thank you for the information and another excellent video. Your content is so helpful and very easy to follow. I also use KZbin as a learning tool, and your options for taking notes from them were good. Of all the methods you demonstrated, I definitely see myself adopting the YiNote extension. Diolch yn fawr.

Thanks for the video, just subscribed! Two questions: 1. Did you ever develop the fork yourself mentioned at kzbin.info/www/bejne/p5u6omeZoJdgZtE 2. Do you have any alternatives to Readwise? Unfortunately it's too expensive for me to use. Edit: How do you store your KZbin videos in Obsidian? Do you keep a "KZbin" folder, or do you store videos in different folders? Just getting started with Obsidian here, thanks for your feedback.
