This Nidoking set helped me blast through the 45 win event. It toppled Mewtwo decks like crazy, even killed Zard, Pika and Art/Lap/Starmie teams. New favorite deck for sure.

I built this deck a couple days ago (minus kengas) because I thought it synergizes well with kota/weezing stall and hard hit/poison for king. Gives me a little more confidence in my deck building that I made something that mogs also approves of!

First game if the opponent retreated with Primeape and brought the promo mankey in to preserve his sweeper, he might've been in a better spot. Don't know if it would've mattered ultimately, but he lost as soon as him primeape went down imo. Promo mankey can be kinda rough to set back up mid-late game so he'd need to rely on it evolving and taking a non ohko hit that way.

Hey Mog I got a question; is there any benefit to going first in this game? Picked it up after seeing you were playing and the first turn always feels bad.

Yeah -going 1st is optimal for stage 1 cards that only require 1 energy to attack or for red card at the start. Second turn gets to attack first, but the player who goes first gets to draw more, use red card and evolve first (turn 3). If you go rapidash you get hit by a basic on turn 2, then you can evolve on turn 3 and with your first energy instantly hit for a guaranteed 40, this is enough to KO all basics you are super effective vs AND a lot of 50hp mons if you use giovanni. Consider other 1 energy stage 1 mons - seaking flips a coin and can on turn 3 do 80 damage. Marowak/Dugtrio can do 70 damage on turn 3 with giovanni to electric types. Golbat can do 70 damage to psychic types on turn 3 with giovanni, 60 without will one shot a ralts, you can combo that with sabrina vs mewtwo decks. Ideally your deck would have some good options for turn 1 and some good options for turn 2.

NidoKing+Queen decks are really a pipedream. Need 3 specific basics, keep them alive and evolve all three TWICE each and ensure you have 3 energy on one while the other two are still alive on bench. For? 180 damage. Kind of like exodia, if you could sleep, paralyze, Sabrina and kill Exodia.

Too slow to come online compared to just Articuno or Articuno/Starmie GX decks, where Pikachu GX is the highest winrate deck, looks to close the game fast AND has type advantage over Water. And Blastoise GX is just a worse version of Charizard GX tbh. Both Stage 2. Both rely on coin flips (Moltres/Misty). Except nothing actually survives a Crimson Storm while Blastoise needs 5-7 Energy for the same results.

I think people are really sleeping on nidoking by focusing too much on nidoqueen. It's got a good matchup against the mewtwo and Pikachu decks. Having weezing if you're going first and nido if youre going second and attacking at every stage is pretty sweet too.
