My absolute favorite part of Niecy's speech was thanking herself. People forget how much work folks have to do in the industry. She has been through A LOT and has done a lot. She was so good in When They See Us, a dramatic role. Congratulations Niecy Nash-Betts! I've been a fan for a long time and it was great to see you receive your flowers.

Great speech! And so funny Sherri as always....commentary. I also wrote that and said in my valedictorian speech in High School in 91. I said, "we can thank our parents, teachers, counselors , friends and others but the main person we need to thank is ourselves for showing up and doing work needed to get to this place - the adventure - this accomplishment..." So yes we need to thank ourselves. I get many people at awards thanking God here and there but I honestly never understood why no one also thanked themselves even in the same breath for having the fortitude to do the work.

Every time I watch Nicey's acceptance speech, I get teary. When we were at Gardenia High, she was a good friend. We were both on the National Forensics League Speech and Debate team. In competition, she performed a dramatic interpretation called "A Soul Gone Home," and I performed "A Night With Beau Willie Brown." Little does she know, I've been rooting for her for years. Congratulations!
