I have developed a similar technique with my right hand on the Electric Bass. Starting with the pinky (5) then 4,3,2, or if necessary, just 3,2,1, you can play "castagnette" riffs with ease and play fast passages rapidly For ex., playing 16th note triplets that lead into an eight note. Works great on all strings, but you have to practice the mechanics for smooth fluidity.
