"drymba" is one of the oldest instruments in the world. Archeological findings prove it was played at least 4 centuries BCE, from ancient Rome to China. The word "drymba" sounds very much like Sardinian name for this small instrument: "trumba", so I guess it spread with the Roman empire. Although the talian name is completely different, lo scacciapensieri (literaly meaning "dispersing thoughts"), it is very common in Italian folk music, especially in Sicilian folk music (Sicilians call it marranzànu, mariòlu or ngannalarrùni) and tarantellas. The Sicilian city of Catania hosts the world's festival of drymba music, known as "Marranzano World Festival"

Shum is an atient Slavic God of forest . At the same time Shum translates from Ukrainian as Noise. This folk song is 1000+ years old. She is singing about planting green weed (yep cannabis) ,which symbolising spring comming, when everything gets green. "See you we you- " translates as sifting, planting, sowing (weed seeds). It is genius how they combine spring, hope that everything will wake up after winter and from Covid, with ukrainian mythology, club music with folk, even ritual music to some extend, weed as one of the symbols of the Netherlands (where eurovision will take place), video with protection costumes and one alone - dancer who spreads the vibes on the crowd. It is just a question of time when they join his party.

The song "Shum" interpreted by Go_A is a modern rethinking of an archaic spring-game with elements of ancient magical rituals. "Our ancestors have always had a close connection with nature, and this has influenced their worldview and outlook. Calling Shum means waking up spring and speeding up the process of awakening all living things after a long cold winter. Today, this story takes on a new meaning. and is in a state of prolonged self-isolation and each of us felt how a person needs society and the need to feel part of something bigger. When creating the composition, I was inspired by spring-game from Polissya and dark techno, "says Go_A soloist Kateryna Pavlenko.

Shum - ancient Ukrainian spring dancing game, which consists of two stages: weaving and unweaving of Shum (witch also one of spring demigods, dedicated to plants growth). When Shum is "weaving", pairs of dancers staying in semicircle, one pair forming "gates" with their hands and all other pairs crossing the "gates". When last one passed, "gates" changed direction of pairs moving, this is called "unweaving" shum: "gates" pair creat new "gates" with opposites hands and all pairs crossing it again and game continues, but faster and faster. Songs, singing when shum continuously weaving and unweaving is one of vesniankas - Ukrainian folk songs, dedicated to Spring and Rebirth of Nature. So many of them about sift and winnow, because all grasses planting during warm spring days. Hemps and vinka - two of them. Hemps is the herb, using for weaving and symbol of female fertility, vinka is ancient symbol of rebith and male fertility, so that's why they together in this song😉 Hope, my poetry translation helps You understand what song about😎 Shum Here is our Shum, coated in green Girls play with it, made it holey and thin. Sift and winnow, sift and winnow hemps Sift and winnow, sift and winnow greenish. Hey go on, go on, let our Shum will weaving Weaving our Shum, let's playing! I want say thank you to all who appreciated the song and gave such a great reaction from all over the world! 💕 much love back to you all 🇺🇦
In general, the content of this song is difficult to translate. As a native speaker of the Ukrainian language, it is also difficult for me to understand certain words that are ancient Ukrainian or dialectal, especially since it is a traditional Ukrainian song with which our people celebrate spring from ancient times and rejoice in it. The Ukrainian word "Shum" translates as "Noise", but the old Ukrainian word "Shum" means "Forest". Somehow everything is so confusing))). "Noisy Forest" - a forest that has woken up and makes thousands of sounds. The main content will look like this: Our Noisy Forest has beautiful green clothes. The girls were walking in that forest and accidentally damaged the green clothes of the forest. Noticing this, they decided to correct their mistake and restore the beauty of the green clothes of the forest to admire it again. In addition, many hemp was sown. :) like this. However, it should be noted that the "шум (shum)" is also called a traditional Ukrainian dance, during which everyone dances and sings of spring))

I personally did not like the song from last year, I understand that it was traditional but for my hear was too much. This is much better, moreover it is cool and emotional. Well, we everybody know what happened there 35 years ago, I know that is not a good memory but it is important to know, what happened in Chernobyl changed all their life: health, politics and economy; and watching this video we can still fell that. Ukrainians are cool, smart, hard working, funny, and high tech people they just had an incredible bad luck, and we can see all of this here. This is great.

THE TEXT OF THE SONG has deep folk roots, 1000 years long. This is an electrofolk reworked spring song(VESNYANKA). VESNYANKA - a ritual song for invoking spring after a long winter, and at the same time an allegory of getting rid of the coronavirus. People welcomed spring and rejoiced in the warmth. The more and faster you dance - the sooner Spring will come. The very active dancer is the first of the crowd, who began to come to life and pass the spring mood to the rest. SIYU VIYU KONOPELECHKI - sow and blow CANNABIS. CLOTHES of the ancient Slavs were created from CANNABIS

REACTOR PARTY ANYONE??? There is ANOTHER MEANING to this awesome song. Hemp plants were used at Chernobyl (after that terrible disaster) to remove contaminants from the soil. Hemp does a better job than sunflowers at this. In the new video they pause the music and actually show the sarcophagus of that cursed nuclear facility. That should tell you this. They are not wearing protective clothing against COVID-19 but against radiation, such as worn at nuclear reactors. The song was based on a folk song. They did a short documentary on it where they visited a group of old ladies who were teaching them how to sing and dance the old way. And in that same documentary they also paid a visit to the radiation ghost town near the Chernobyl site. Amazing to see that nature and wild life are starting to come back. As symbolized by the dancing kids who are shedding their white protective gear to reveal bright colored clothes. By the way 26 April 2021 marked the 35th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster. It is a song of hope. And I hope they win!

Explanations. Noise is an ancient Slavic god of the forest. Text songs - an ancient Slavic-Ukrainian Vesnyanka - a ritual song that awakened spring. In Vesnyanka, it is said that the girls were walking in the forest and "tore their fur coat" - they trampled the grass of the god of the forest. And now they are sowing-blowing so that new grass will grow, so that Noise does not get angry and wakes up from sleep after winter. At the same time, the girls held hands and whirled around Vesnyanka in a round dance raising and lowering their arms, like swaying tree branches. And when they dropped their hands, they began to dance actively. This is a summary of the meaning. Moreover, there is a double meaning in the video. As the earth awakens after winter, so the world must awaken after the pandemic and Vesnianka calls for spring and the end of the pandemic.
