I am including CGI in the word "animation" as it is such by definition. Yes the 2d is good, but that 3d has to be taken into account. Pacing... it's the 1st episode and it wasn't awful. I am hoping this will not be a hard show to make over the 3 episode rule.

Ahhh the fact they're using the game's God Tier Soundtrack in the anime has already got me loving this... I'm not a big stickler for animation types so that aspect that bothers some people doesn't really matter to me, and I wasn't going in expecting the most insane adaptation ever seeing as we could tell from the trailers a large amount is a recreation of the game just in a different artstyle. Which for a game that calls to me to be played over and over is plenty enough for me.

I am not one for saying "Give me 2d or give me death" but the CGI can't be distractingly bad, and there are moments like that for all of us. However, the 2d was pretty legit, and some CGI moments were serviceable. Hopefully we get more of the latter two. -Kyle

@@TheGenreVerse yeah the criticisms are perfectly valid and I can see where they're coming from, at the end of the day for me I'm just happy we got an anime at all. Just means more people are gonna be introduced to the NieR Series and gives people who don't play games an opportunity to experience the story as well again phenomenal music...

Yeah, the anime is 8/10 to me, quite good 👌 People never play the game would feel weird at some scenes, like the way aircrafts flying 🤣. That's Nier style, they just never thought camera angles like those could be brough into the anime 🤣 but I love that 👌

That first scene with 2B carrying 9S isn't in the game, that's new. I hope they add more new stuff tbh otherwise it'll get boring for vets. Also the colour change of the craft is to denote her captain rank. She assumed captain status when all other units got wiped out.

It is in the game just not in the same location. She carried him out of the copied city so that anime scene could be just when she got out.

@@infini_ryu9461 2B always act overdramatic when 9S is hurt. They're androids. They can always load data into new bodies, so they don't really die from damage to the body. I'm sure 9S wasn't really dead in that scene.

@@rustygear447 You should rewatch the first episode. At the end 9S did die but he didn't keep his memory like 2B. As far as 2B is concerned that 9S did indeed die, completely. His recollection of the entire first section is completely gone, 9S truly did die, and the anime has already alluded to the fact that this has happened numerous times to him and 2B doesn't want that anymore because she remembers all of it. Going any further is getting into spoiler territory, so I'll leave it there.

I'm saying that whole concept that 9S died just because he lost a bit of memory is faulty in the first place. 9S still had all his memories until just before he met 2B, and 2B can easily update him with all the events that happened from her memory. The story just ignore such obvious possibilities for plot and emotional impacts. I don't mind it, but people should be aware of it. Edit: I want to add that 9S did that to update Pascal about A2. Edit2: Even if 9S can't get that last bit of memory, it's still wayyyyy overdramatic to consider someone dead for that. He's still there with the same personality. He just forgot some stuff that she can tell him about. What's the big deal? Edit 3: for context, people with alzheimer's forget most of their lives, but their families can still be happy that they atleast still have their personality and can enjoy life in the moment instead being a vegetable.

It's kinda strange to hear 2B's pod (her little flying robot) speaking with the same voice as Fate/Zero's Kotomine Kirei. I never noticed while playing the game.

As someone who loves the game (in my Top 3 games of all time); I didn't hate the first episode but I don't love it either. It seems "decent" so far with potential to be good depending on how the story is handled.

Ep1 is around 8/10 for me :))) If you feel weird at some scenes or camera angles (the fight in the sky). Then yes, the original game also made me feel weird. But it's Nier style. And I started to love it from the game. So I got no problem with everything

Animation studios usually use cgi on complicated objects like mechanical machines cuz it'll take a lot of time to animate every single mechanical moving piece and detailing it. Im not saying it's true in this case (highly likely it is) but it happens a lot when studios are in a time crunch

We have no issue with CGI, it just has to look better than this. Both Chiansaw Man and SPY x FAMILY had fine use of CGI in our opinions, and this may end up being used more effectively, but there were some really rough models/shots. Thanks for watching and joining the conversation! -Kyle

I just watched it a few hours ago....I'd say I agree with the CG opinion, I don't hate it but I'm not surprised that A-1 pictures will use CG because as we all know the scale and amount of details on the flight suit and the engels is hard to hand draw let alone animate it. I think their goal here is to be really cinematic and not just your regular anime adaptation. The textures used on the machines and the environment is honestly well done I love it a lot unfortunately I didn't like much the flight mech's texture it looks like a unloaded texture from a game but I appreciate that during some close ups they'd switch it to 2D. Now, the hand to hand or swordplay, the run cycles and the effects animation are amazing in this it's not smooth but it's flashy and impactful by not animating it super smoothly the slashes and kicks feels much heavier Imo and the effects animation the explosions, dust, debris and lasers are all well done for me. Overall I think this was a great start for nier Automata anime despite the 3DCG issue of so many (not me i've acclimated to it hahaha) the 2D elements make up for it at least the fight is not filled with still frames (hand to hand, effects animation etc. etc.)

I wasn't expecting anything for the anime but I was disappointed the 3D animation is terrible and the 2D animation mostly uses the game's cute scenes as template (which isn't a bad thing) but it all seems so loveless. The only thing i want to see is the new story content coming in a few episodes (precisely because yoko taro is the story supervisor for the anime). Random fun fact he follows me on twitter lol. And by the way playing the game is so much better. And more emotional because now the anime only goes through the game dialogue without anything original, the pacing is already broken. But watch it if you guys want!
