I dont understand why its the young versions. Shouldnt it be the adult versions in the field after beating the final boss?

The "perfect" life and childhood both parties wanted. And replaced Shadowlord with Nier in the last part, it make sense too. Since he just doom all by his action and became the last boss which is evil and out to destroy all.
