At 36:30 the fight is stopped because Eubank was releasing too much punishment on Nigel Benn which made the referee feel that he needed to stop the fight before Nigel Benn got hurt.

Benn was robbed - fair enough Eubank did him, whilst trying to get the ref to take a point away at least twice and pretending the knock down wasn't a knock down when it clearly was - but how many seconds were left when the ref stopped it ... less than 10 and maybe even less than 5 seconds to the bell Benn was easily ahead when the ref stopped it

Back then that was what he was known as Eubanks, he dropped the S a few years later to become Eubank.h

At that time his Surname was Eubanks, he had the S removed sometime later as far as I know.

Great fight. Today being Oct 24th, I remember watching this fight with my brother Gene just shy of 30 years ago. These were the top two Brits who were on top of the Middle Weight division at the time. Eubanks eas entertaining with his statue model poses but "what the bloody he ll plan was that mate?" to pose and stand on occasion in between rounds instead of resting his legs on the stool? Referee Richard Steel stopped this fight with only 3 seconds left in round 9. While Benn was badly hurt, he was the Champion and could have survived those 3 seconds. Note this was the 2nd time in 8 months that Steel stopped a major championship fight with only seconds left. 8 months earlier on Saint Patricks Day he stopped the Julio Chavez vs. Meldrick Taylor championship fight with only 2 seconds left in the fight. m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/pne0Y6KAaMaml68

Benn Niguel has STRENGTH and Stamina like Lennox lewis.........The Guy McCallum is a STRONG fighter BUT he mignt NOT go the DISTANCE with Benn Nigel......He might run out of Gas before the 12th Round and Benn Nigel would come viciously and brutally as he did in his fights........Benn Nigel and lennox Lewis came from the same Genetic background of STRENGTH and Stamina

@@ericezeokoli8800 His strength and stamina didn't save him V Watson 89, Eubank 90, Collins 2 times, 96, all stoppage defeats. Just a few weeks after he won his 168 WBC Title, he was challenged by Mc Callum who was a MW, 160, Benn said " Yes I'd like to fight him and maybe even out body punch the body snatcher" all brave words but no action, and there is no way Mc Callum would have run out of steam. He was the most avoided fighter of the late 80s, early 90s and would have mangled Benn at 160 or 168 then.

Benn started getting success once he landed the 1st low blow. Once he wasn't even warned about it Benn fought dirtier and dirtier. smh
