This means the traders will “soon go” aka “ zongo”. Even houses that were built were not permanent structures because they were looking for a permanent location for them to settle. Yes zongo is an Hausa language but remember we make words from other language and it becomes part of a spoken language. People are here to learn. Just go and google the meaning of zongo and u will understand.

Please whiles trying to educate also don't make generalised and uninformed statements. Muslims don't speak Hausa rather Hausa people speak Hausa. Islam is a religion not an ethnic group. It's just like Saying Christians speak twi. Religion and Enthicity are two different things. Most people who havnt really travelled even across Ghana ignorantly make that conclusion because the only Muslims they come in close contact with are from Hausa speaking settlements like the Zongo's. This is just education. Eg. Tamale is predominantly a Muslim dominated town most people don't speak or understand hausa but Dagbani. Even within Tamale there is a Zongo settlement( That is where you find Hausa being spoken) So when people in Accra or Ksi. usually just expose the fact that they haven't travelled round the country hence mixing a religious believe with a some ethnic group. If any language is to be associated with Islam I believe saying "Muslims use or speak arabic" isn't debatable obviously because the quaran is written in Arabic and they have to learn how to recite the Arabic verses in order to be a Muslim. Based on your analogy I hope if I go to Saudi Arabia I will find the Arabs speaking Hausa. Even in Ghana most Muslim dominated towns in the 3 northern regions don't speak hausa(they have their own languages). This is just a little education. Thanks for educating us to on the meaning of Hausa. I appreciate
