VAR doesn’t make the call tho, it’s only there for suggestions in case the ref missed something. At the end of the day it’s the in-field referee that has the final say. The problem is the uneducated refs, not VAR.

Dans ce match, l'esprit aurait été de considérer que Renard avait raté son penalty et que la position de la gardienne adverse, qu'à l'oeil nu l'arbitre n'avait pas jugée fautive (20 cm, tu serais pas un peu marseillais?), n'avait pas eu d'incidence dans cette erreur. L'esprit c'est de ne jamais oublier qu'il s'agit d'un jeu, d'un amusement. Or ici, à la fin du match, les supporters nigérians étaient dégoûtés et les français un peu gênés. Donc, ouais, tout ce que tu dis est factuellement indéniable, n'empêche que ça a tué le match et personne n'a eu l'envie de célébrer quoi que ce soit.

The keeper can move as much as they want, but need to have atleast one foot on/behind the line. Otherwise the goalkeeper would stand directly infront of the ball... It has always been like this, however with VAR this is now being checked.

J Ped yes and no. Before keepers were allowed to be off the line slightly by custom as the referee did not want to retake unless it was beyond obvious. However with VAR it is now exact to the millimeter.

The rule only comes into effect if the keeper gains an advantage from it, which she didn’t cause the shot missed the target anyway.

I think the whole goalie off the line rule should be changed. From the sound of the whistle the goalie should be able to come off by a foot. Convert that into centimeters if you will. Why should the striker have every advantage here? It's impossible for a goalie at the strike of the ball to just jump to a corner.

The rule of the penalty kick saying that the goalkeeper must have minimum one of her/his foot on the line when the kicker touch the ball. If not, it's a fault. It's a new rule since June 1th. Unfortunately for Nnadozie, both of her feet are offline when Renard kicked for the first time. For the second time, Nnadozie had still her right foot on the line when Renard kick the ball. There had the same situation during Scotland vs Argentina match and Jamaica vs Italy. The first kicks were missed too and the penalty had to be rekicked because the goalkeepers weren't on the line. .

I can say categorically that it WAS NOT a penalty, based on the biased one angle-view the VAR guys showed, they didn't show other angles just to persuade the Ref. from seeing the real deal. If we all want football governed by the letter of the VAR law, then refs should be instructed - and we should be prepared - to review 98% of all penalty kicks for either a keeper moving early or a player entering the box early. I think you'd admit that movement by either the keeper or non-kick-taking player happens about that often. We should then expect that penalties be taken over, and over, and over, and over until nobody moves a muscle - which I personally think would be a detriment to the sport.

That’s not the issue. The problem is that the rule only applies if the keeper makes the save, which didn’t happen here. The shooter just missed. The keeper could’ve stepped up 5 yards for arguments sake and it wouldn’t have mattered cause she didn’t touch the ball. Never a retake.

Funnily enough America won the world cup in 99 by breaking this rule EVERY SINGLE TIME! (their gk was 2 or 3 meters off the line for all penalties...) And it was never recalled. China was robbed of the only world cup they might have ever had the chance to win back then (watch the 99 penalty shootout on KZbin if you don't believe me) - Nigeria of qualification now. This rule, at least in women's football, seems to only be applied in favor of the rich and powerful nations...
