This was nice to watch, honestly, one of the reasons why it seems like Nigerians that go abroad make it is simply because basic necessities are met, you don't have to worry about things such as light, internet, and some few things, whereas in Nigeria, we have to provide most of these things ourselves, also our colonization mindset lets us or make us automatically believe that people that grew up abroad are better than us, so when they come back to Nigeria, it's always a bit hard to acclimate to the environment, I often feel sorry for most of them honestly, Nice podcast btw, I love how you guys just had fun with it.

Temisan is so right ! African children are trained not to speak back to their parents it’s typical. However, education and exposure can create a room for decent conversations btw patents and children with children airing their views respectfully which is read to see with white children .

Wish you had let her talk a little bit more without cutting her off, especially when it got to her abuse. It feels like it could have gotten a lot deeper but then you interrupt and give a little lecture on women being abused and unable to leave due to financial insecurity…to the person who lived it?? Guy come on na.

Truly most Nigerian parents are extremely domineering, I can’t even explain it you’d just feel sort of awkward to be ‘an adult ‘ before them. Very repressive and truly messes with you mentally tbh.
@constanceabbey3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I get what Taymesan means you just rather find a way around an issue to prove your point rather than argue with them but it’s more of a respect thing, than ‘fearing’ them as they think. Lol

Children raised in Nigeria are completely different from children raised abroad. Nigerians parents are often repressive and domineering. Nigerian children are almost brought up not to have a voice or an opinion. Kids abroad are taught to be vocal and independent from a very young age. I mean in Nigeria, calling an older person by name is considered disrespectful even when you are in your 30s. I think that Nigerian parent can do better when it comes to grooming their kids. This is not to say that some Nigerian parents aren’t getting it right, a lot of them aren’t though.

Nothing wrong with not addressing older people by their names as a sign of respect. It os is a common practice all over the world save for western countries. You are in your 30s not the alpha and omega.
