...according to one youth commentator: "the Nigerian Youth voted for Buhari and he has spent 3 years without doing anything"...If I remember correctly; the same Nigerian Youth voted for Jonathan and yet their lives did not change for the better. We were all once Nigerian Youth and our parents called ALL OF US LAZY AT ONE TIME OR ANOTHER...and what did that do for us? Did we complain that our "parents called us lazy", No! WE WERE MOTIVATED AND TRIED OUR BESTS TO IMPRESS THEM...AND MOST OF US SUCCEEDED. And today we see how our parents MADE US BETTER HUMANS, NOT JUST NIGERIANS. Today because of the discipline of our parents and other relatives we are; Doctors, Engineers, Lawyers, real hard working personalities no matter where we go in the World. Back to the "voting youth". So they are just waiting for "someone they voted for to do..." what exactly for them? This is what I think is happening to the Nigerian Youth. The Nigerian Youth, is Youth-less! Not useless! But certainly "Youth-Less"! Due to systemic CORRUPTION THAT HAS CARRIED OVER FROM MILITARY RULE TO DEMOCRATIC RULE, the Nigerian Youth has become JADED and , as a result lacks the self-motivation that might have come with a far less corrupt upbringing. So Buhari's comments are not far fetched at all. He is the Father of the Nation and his comments are based on what he believes the Nigerian Youth can achieve on their own, instead of waiting for one man, or woman, or spirit to come and bail them out!!!

Does it mean we dont even know the differences between SOME and ALL? The youths did not even bother to read the full speech of the president, some political opportunisits who think they can win elections by twisting Buhari´s statement spread this message and the youths confirmed they are lazy by reacting before reading the presidsent message. The average Nigerian youth today want to ride a car of 18 million Naira when he was supposed to be in school pursuing his career. Dangote just confessed recently that it took him more than 30 years to get to were he is today but an average Nigerian youths went to get to Dangote position at 19 years old. Ibb talked out our youths in 2010, Atiku talked about them in 2016, Ekweremadu talked about them also, all in the negative and it is funny some of these persons are blaming Buhari. Buhari will be remembered as the best thing to ever happen to this country.

I think the main problem is how we do our business. Most of them are subsistence, so everyone is just trying to fend for themselves instead of trying to make a fortune. You could go to the market and find two people selling the exact same thing, when they could put their inputs together to make it larger. Some of them just want to be errand people, we should be getting resources and trying to put them together, not getting one thing and giving it out the same way. We hardly export enough resources that people from outside our nation can demand(but people from outside are producing so many products that our life depends on), we eat from ourselves, some would get starved... We shouldn't be going to university just to finish school and hope to get a job, we should be trying to create one and when we do, we have to make it bigger. Haven't we had many engineers over the years, but our electricity sector is bad, we could have been doing lots of research. We've been doing the same thing for years when we should change, else that would be insane. Everyone just wants to survive but we don't just survive, we need to live. Going to religious buildings and/or praying for the good things doesn't mean they would happen, you work for them. Spend your time wisely not repeating words and hoping something extraordinary would happen at any moment.

A lot of people are giving Buhari crap about his statement. But the problem is Nigerians generally don't calm down to assess situations before speaking. Most people speak from a very close minded POV and therefore end up coughing out inaccurate statements. I see too many people propagating hate towards Buhari for the statements he made. Totally unnecessary Now everyone sit down and listen over again. Maybe he went on a tangent; maybe, it could also be that he is corrupt; yeah yeah. But the statements he made about the Nigerian youth seem accurate to me. I am Nigerian myself; Although I am not lazy, it doesn't mean the mass population of Nigerian youth and upcoming children aren't. Why do I say this? Let me give one example I remember when I was a teacher for my NYSC days (2012). I learned a great lesson just from studying the kids. None of them wanted to work. I promise you these kids don't know shit. I personally put in my 101% to see these kids succeed. So many different initiatives to help so many kids, but at the end of the day, very very disappointing efforts. Now listen I don't do anything without planning, the reason why these failed were because of the non chalant attitude of everybody when it comes to their studies but guess what they were very very agile and enthusiatic when it was time for football or chitchat. Teachers, students, the community itself. So many points to highlight. Anyway, the issue in the country is not going to be solved overnight. Everyone's mindset is already infected with hate, corruption, unrealistic dreams/nightmares and utterly terrible ambitions so it's even hard to say anything that will prove viable these days. We live in a world where you can no longer trust your family members. Your own blood. and because of all these, people are at a point where they no longer have any choice than to struggle and therefore you see people hustling really badly on the streets and mind you; that's not proof that they aren't lazy but it's a good start- I AM NOT SAYING PEOPLE DON"T TRY.. EVERYONE's HUSTLE IS DIFFERENT. Truth be told, some of these could have been avoided if Nigeria had better leaders in the past or if it has one soon enough. That aside, we live in the present so what do we do now? First, we need to empower the youth. The key to reversing this "greed effect" lies with the youth. Nigerians need to start thinking outside of the box. Everyone needs to come together as one; irrespective of their differences and start thinking of solutions to problems. Laying out plans and actually working towards implementing them. It won't be easy, if anyone thinks it would be, they will be kidding themselves. This kind of positive thinking mindset is what will get the country out of the mess it is in.
@stephendavid5686 жыл бұрын
Congratulations! You're the only hardworking Nigerian youth! Were you in the country when thousands of youths queued-up for the Nigeria Immigration Service job? What happened? Didn't our foremost so called Nigerian Youth(P-Square and some other performers...including Omotola) rail against the idea as if the Minister was trying to stop them from Traveling Abroad to spend the money they made from Nigerian Youth and other Countries' Youth? This is the classic example of "laziness" that I have ever seen!!! You don't want to stay and develop your own Country, instead you want to take the "Nigerian Talent" that was given to you after you grew up eating Nigerian Food, and "spend it abroad" in America, Dubai, London Economies that could care less about your Country!!! Is the Fulani youths that are lazy. They are the ones that do not go to school. They are the only ones that are scattered all across Nigeria begging for for money. And their elite emirs and politicians who have allocated oil wells in the South to themselves. B It is obvious that it is not the youths from the South who are drowning in the high seas because they are looking for jobs to survive that he called lazy. It is in the North that you have only 20 or 28 pupils who intended to sit for school certificate. Is the Southern youths that have given Buhari and his Fulani brothers to be insulting southern youths.
