When so much information has to be processed, what with people telling us first one thing, then something totally different, that completely knocks down the myth that we were told as a child, then we see the point that he's making. There is way too much myth and murder, committed in the name of "Freedom", that can cause our own minds to go into overdrive, and cause permanent damage... unless we find out what the truth of the matter is, for each particular subject.

What a terrific performance by Berman. Night Court could switch from comedy to pathos and then back again, one of those rare shows that could get away with it. John Astin was always great. RIP, Harry Anderson.

That’s what made this show great drama interlaced in the comedy. Also Harry Anderson being one of the few who showed me that it’s ok not to grow up as long as you don’t forfeit maturity.

The ease Night Court could duck in and out of humor and drama... and top it off with a running gag. "Really... lose the tie." Killed me!! 😆😂🤣

This was one of the reasons why I loved this show. One minute you are dying laughing, the next you are pondering what life is all about. No matter what, you felt better after watching. I hope the new show can capture the impact of the original.

Can you picture any other sitcom that would have the guts (and the class) enough to forego the laughs for over three minutes, allowing for a heartfelt soliloquy from this poor, lonely man? I know I can't.

*Phil:* You mean, you'll agree to commit yourself to a psychiatric institution, just to make me happy? *Buddy:* __ I'm funny that way. *Prosecuting Attorney:* Sir, if Mr. Ryan would like to withdraw his petition for commitment, the State will make any necessary motions. *Buddy:* You mean, I can change my mind and not go in? *Al:* NOOO! *Buddy:* Al! You can talk!! *Judge Kemp:* Get comfy, everybody! We don't know how long he's been storing this up! *Al:* Don't go, Buddy. Don't leave me by myself. *Buddy:* Oh, don't worry, Al. The place you're goin' is _great!_ I've been there! The staff is wonderful! The equipment is great, and ooooh...the linoleum! Green, with those little speckly things in it! *Judge Stone:* Al, Buddy's right. These people _can_ help ya, you know that psychological therapy stuff...that's _real._ *Al:* I don't know _what's_ real anymore. *Buddy:* Well, that's what they _do_ in there, Al! Help ya figure that out! *Al:* Well, h-h-how do I know _they're_ real? *Buddy:* Well... __ Time's up! __ Okay, you stumped me there, pal. *Al:* When I was young, my mother told me Santa Claus was real. Well, then, when I got older, she told me he wasn't! One book says Jesus is real. One book says he isn't. We're living in the greatest country in the world...and we're...murdering each other in the streets! What did they expect when they made us believe in the Tooth Fairy and the Easter Bunny, and then gave us the nuclear bomb to play with? __ "Hey diddle-diddle, the cat and the fiddle" is a lie like all the rest. The astronauts _killed_ the Man in the Moon. Growing up...took care of the rest. __ I don't know _anything_ anymore, Buddy...except that when I'm around you, I don't feel so lost. If you leave me...I think I'll _die._ _

Bodhisattva in Buddhism is one who is on the path to enlightenment and compassionate towards others… sometimes staying back to assist others on their path as well. Although Nightcourt often had Christian undertones to make it better understood by western audiences, Buddy sure shows us his Bodhisattva qualities here Also, an excellent monologue delivery

Probably one of the greatest speeches written into a comedy scene - something that happened during the 80s in a number of comedies. It is sad that today's comedy, is filthy or has a political agenda. While they writers did push the envelope in a number of comedies, people from all corners of the US could relate, could laugh, could unwind as families sat around and just enjoyed life. This episode ranks at the top of quality, and speaks volumes of the struggles even sane people, let alone insane, feel.
