--------------------------------------
FERAL HOGS - AN INVASIVE SPECIES
Feral Hog Math: 1+1=12, 6+6=72, 36+36=232
Gestation period: 115 days
Females can have their first litter as young as 6 month old.
One sow with litter can turn into over 70 hogs in only 9 months. Add 9 months for every generation after that. You're looking at over 200 hogs after only 18 months.
Wild Hogs cause an annual damage of estimated $2 Billion. That is damage to equipment, live stock, land, as well as crop. This estimate also includes the cost for efforts controlling this invasive species.
Feral hogs compete directly with livestock as well as game and non-game wildlife species for food. However, the main damage caused to livestock and wildlife is indirect destruction of habitat and agriculture commodities. Rooting and trampling activity for food can damage agricultural crops, fields, and livestock feeding and watering facilities. Often wildlife feeders are damaged or destroyed. They also destabilize wetland areas, springs, creeks and tanks by excessive rooting and wallowing. In addition to habitat destruction and alteration, hogs can destroy forestry plantings and damage trees. While not active predators, wild hogs may prey on fawns, young lambs, and kid goats. If the opportunity arises, they may also destroy and consume eggs of ground nesting birds, such as turkeys and quail. More information about the Feral Hog problem in the state of Texas can be found here: tpwd.texas.gov...
ABOUT TEXAS JAGD
"JAGD" (ja:kt) is German for Hunt/Hunting. Ronny was born and raised in Germany and moved to the US in his late 20s. He has always been an avid outdoorsman and almost immediately started hunting after moving to the USA. Hunting wasn't as accessible in Germany, so he enjoyed and embraced the freedom given in America. He partnered up with Micah when they both discovered that they shared the same passion for night vision and thermal vision hog hunting in Texas. Together they patrol private ranches, farmland and corporate properties around Austin TX and keep the local feral hog population at bay as much as they can.
They aim to kill fast, but feral hog control is a numbers game and they will take any shot which can be safely placed. Their highest priority is safety, and their shots are limited by population/residential homes in rural areas as well as livestock. That's why you won't see them going rapid-fire. They will err on the side of caution instead of taking that one shot they would regret.
Their equipment and means to control Wild Hogs primarily consists of semi-auto rifles equipped with the newest Thermal Vision and Night Vision Optics. These Thermal Scopes allow them to quickly detect and recognize feral hogs at distances up to 1,000 yards. Suppressed AR platform rifles are their preference but there are many other very capable semi-automatic rifles, which will be utilized as well. Silencers are essential to the team's efforts because it reduces the noise level significantly and won't alert people living in surrounding areas so that TXJ's activities won't become a nuisance. Local Texas farmers are grateful for the free crop protection services as it saves them money.
Ronny and Micah enjoy what they do and take pride in this work.

First off, that was a great shot by your son! "There's a new sheriff in town" and he is only 9. Loved how calm and controlled he was and placed a drt shot. I am amazed the animals aren't spooked by the light when it is overhead. I am sure they would run if you had a flashlight and were on the ground. The thermal drone is a game changer-going to be fun to see it's capabilities. Great video!!!!!

I’m always excited when you put out a new video. This one did not disappoint. I’ve seen a few other hog hunting videos where a drone operator will bring the drone to a low hover on the backside of the pigs to drive them toward the shooters. It seems to work pretty well on a big open field. Like hounds to the hunters. Happy shooting.

Just FYI the Mavic 3T has a built in light on top that meets FAA requirements for night flights. You don’t need to add the additional one and weight.

Thank you. I thought I read somewhere that the built-in light wouldn't meet FAA standards. Agree - if I could leave that off, I'd prefer that.

I see you did some purchasing after i commented on your last drone vid...This my exact setup becareful because the added weight of the light tends to make the front 2 motors get very hot...it is legal to use thermal at night for hogs in Texas now but there is additional paperwork thats needed through TPWD approx. $200 fee... They do come a knocking from time to time especially if you are posting videos...anyways great stuff 👍🏿 👌🏿 👏🏿

Thank you - I need to look up what the weight is on the OEM speaker or RTK module. That spotlight shouldn't be much heavier if at all.
@BigCityCountryBoi
@BigCityCountryBoi Жыл бұрын
@@TexasJAGD it isn't heavy to us but next time you fly it watch how much warmer to the touch the front motors are with the spotlight attached after a flight. That's why I let mine cool all the way down in between battery changes. Probably won't be as much an issue running the spotlight when these temperatures cooldown.
@TexasJAGD
@TexasJAGD Жыл бұрын
I did notice the motors being hot but I didn't compare front to back. I figured flying in near 100F is the reason. Will check the next flight!

I’m glad to see more hog hunters utilizing the drone technology, I have been using thermal drones way before most people even know they existed probably 2016 ish and just sold my latest thermal drone due to market saturated with them now and I’m not flying for peanuts. The thermal market has been great for newbie’s but has cost a lot of us to just give it up because thermal drones are within reach $$ now. My first setup was $25,000 and my last setup was $18,000 and now you can buy used for $3000+. I Will possibly look back into flying drones when USA manufacturers complete unit and they get rid of China drones which is already in progress.

@TexasJAGD
@TexasJAGD Жыл бұрын
Even at 400 ft (FAA max altitude) you can still hear it if just hovering. But wildlife doesn't seem to be bothered by it much, even if you're at 200 ft.

That drone has some awesome cameras. Did you have to acquire the license before you purchased the drone? It should be very useful in recovering downed or wounded creatures as looking down is usually less cluttered than looking across.
@TexasJAGD
@TexasJAGD Жыл бұрын
Technically you don't need the part 107 license to fly at night. If you're flying recreationally/as a hobbyist, then you can fly at night. You are still required to follow FAA rules however. You would need proper stripe/navigation lights, stay within line of sight and under 400 ft in altitude. Since I'm flying my drone somewhat beyond recreational, one could argue, the Part 107 license gives me the proper permission for that.
