I love the way this makes a totally physical "dimmer switch". If you only need a bit of light, open it a bit, if you need more, open it more. Very intuitive.

The thing I love about these videos is that you take something relatively simple like a nightlight in a table, and by the end it turns into something really clever, like the overhead light when you're on the sofa downstairs.

I think this is one of my favorite builds. I grew up with light tables and this is a cool modification to hide it in a drawer and use it as a night light. I love that how much you open it controls the brightness. Sweet build.

I really like the idea. At first sight I was wondering why the draw was ~ 10cm thick and lacked functionality of actual drawer space, however seeing the illumination choice it made sense to alleviate hot spots from light, as well as dual directional lighting. If interested in future applications of functional drawer space as well as achievement of dual directional lighting, I’d like to suggest looking into the sign industry for their LED innovations and minimum 4cm thickness of cavity to have even lighting (no hotspots). What makes them nice is that you could have essentially 3 separate drawers (light, functional drawer, light) with a small penalty of height, but gain functionality of drawer. The switch wiring would be slightly more complicated but easily achievable. Keep up the great work, very clever problem solving!
