Johnny Clegg will be remembered even longer than Darlene & Mr, Jarreau, both of whom I love, but he is an historical genre generating cultural & political Icon for all souls in S. Afrika, & the world, besides being a great writer & outstanding musician !!!!! RIP Sir Clegg !!!

I'm an atheist, but I looked forward to seeing Darleen Love on David Letterman singing that Christmas song every year. I wish Colbert would have continued the tradition.

I did forget to mention how great Johnny Clegg and Savuka were. I've had a crush on the female singer, who's name I can't remember, for 40 years. What a voice!

Susan Larhubarbe: thank you very much for Mandisa's name. I just looked at my CDs and found her name on 2 of them as a guest vocalist. I wish they made her more prominent. Her voice is incredible.

@@paulinwoburn9680 I don’t know why they cite her as a guest vocalist. Well in the big songs she sings those goosebumps parts e.g. ‘Asimbonanga’. Check out ‘Manqoba’ here on KZbin from the SA movie ‘Goodbye Bafana’ where she sings the main part and Johnny almost sings ‘backing vocals’. Also, live she played a big role during Johnny’s solo career.

If NBC wants to save themselves, they need a new version of this. There might be some artists that people may have overlooked and they need a chance to see them.

Even if the artists are trash, which is unfortunately prevalent in modern pop music, but God anything to get music-oriented programs back on TV. So long as the mix is eclectic, sound/genre-wise and generation-wise (old and new)--and it's not just current trap artist after current trap artist after current trap artist (the music biz has really falsely given the people the impression that this is the only music that exists anymore)--it could be watchable, and sustainable in terms of drawing viewers. Despite what the slime controlling the airwaves might believe, audiences want something beyond the confines of the repulsively corporate pop music exploitation tyranny of "American Idol", "The Voice", "America's Got Talent", "The Masked Singer" etc etc. Some variety, with institutions of music, alongside whatever's interesting and fresh nowadays, "proven talent" so to speak. And whatever they do, I beg of thee TV Gods, please keep fucking Nick Cannon miles upon miles away from the hosting duties. EDIT: Ironically enough, the closest thing I guess we have to that is, what, "Later...With Jools Holland"? One show won't do the trick, especially one that happens to be in-syndication in America outside the realm of traditional network television (I think it airs on Palladia, and who the hell's going out of their way to watch that).

I almost forgot Al Jarreau's So Good. David actually played sax in the album cut. David Sanborn one time or another played with the jazz legends of the day. R.I.P. -Al Jarreau (Jazz Legend. If NBC brings back Night Music? Norman Brown should be host with Wynton Marsalis. My idea for the first guests is former host Dave Sanborn and Bob James.

There was an episode where Hiram played some solo guitar with the drummer Charlie playing on a garbage can. I think he called it “garbage can blues” or something. I’ve been dying to find that clip for years, in case anyone knows where I can find it.

I was just thinking the same thing. In fact, I was thinking that this would be a perfect way to end the Saturday night primetime lineup as a lead-in to the local news before SNL.

Sunday late night was perfect for Night Music. At the time it would follow after George Michael's Sports Machine. I believe the show was recorded around Wednesday or Thursday. Because it shared the same studio with SNL.

I've watched plenty of these and enjoyed Darlene Love, Johnny Clegg, and the toy instruments, but that gawd-awful scat singing had me skipping through. I doubt that Louie and Ella, or Dizzy and Bird, would appreciate LH and R or Al J. "channeling" their music.

Thank you for all the FULL episodes of this great show, NIGHT MUSIC. I've been waiting forever to see the Al Jareau show of him doing the song 'Twisted' and you have fulfilled it. Please keep up the great work sharing these gems with us. BTW- Do you have the David Fathead Newman full show? I vagually remember him doing Making Whoopee and playing with Joe Cocker and would love to see this again! Thank You!!!
