that explains why no matter how much i sleep , when i need to wake up early i feel like shit, i need like 1-2 hours to get myself into normal funcioning. The best time for me is being active at night till 4-5 am , then sleep till 2-3 pm, then i feel just good.

I'm a night owl, and often had to take 9 am classes, as the classes I needed were only available at that time. I'd go, then come.home.and sleep for 4 hours. I tried every semester to adjust and keep a sleep schedule, but couldn't do it. Needless to say...I'm VERY happy to have a 2pm class this semester.

This is why I love my 2PM-10:30PM shift as a nurse. My body naturally likes to sleep from midnight until 7 or 8 AM. My 2nd shift schedule is perfect for this. I get to go home and wind down for an hour before turning in. I get to sleep until 7 or 8, which still gives me plenty of time to exercise, run errands, etc before having to get ready for work.

This will be a long comment, but how do you deal with it, I've been a night owl since middle school, and every single time when I actually succeed at sleeping at night (it takes few days), every day I stay up later than the day before untill I go back to my normal sleeping schedule, and it takes less time than reversing it, every time, and I didn't work for years because of it, I can't force myself to start, because the job that I have school for, starts at 7am, yeah, you read it right, every day, at 7am! How the hell should I just change myself, like I am for a decade, maybe more. And everyone thinks I'm lazy and just don't wanna work. And jobs that I know of that have afternoon work hours are just fast food joints, and I don't wanna do that, and even if I would, I probably can't choose my working hours. Also, if I absolutely have to go somewhere in the morning, and get like 2 hours of sleep, like the other day, I'll feel like shit for a whole day, barely keeping my eyes open, and when the evening comes I stay up till 3 am. Does anyone, if anyone is still reading 😂 has any advice because I'm gonna lose my mind if I have to work at 7 am, the only idea I have is to sleep after work, and stay up the whole night till I go to work, but I don't think I could function like that, has anyone tried it?

SAME HERE!! Except for the 7 a.m. job. I am 18 and just graduated high school this year and have been a night owl for a really long time too. I NEED a certain amount of sleep or else I will feel horrible all day and not be able to focus like you. I have also tried to shift my sleep schedule earlier and failed many times, because even if I am tired during th day from getting up too early, at night I get all my energy back and can't fall asleep until the usual time. I go to sleep later and later each night until I am back to the sleep schedule I was trying to get off of. UGH, I hate how society is centered around early bird schedules and there are not many good jobs that have later options. BUT, I have found a solution!! My dad is teaching me how to be a freelance title searcher/paralegal. I can do most of my work from home, make my own schedule, and choose how much work to take. It is pretty boring, but the perks are good and it's a guaranteed income. I'm also writing a fantasy novel in hopes of that being my career, and starting a KZbin channel for supplemental income. I know you wrote that comment 2 years ago but if you're still looking for ideas then here are some!

At school I used to start at 8am and couldn't sleep before 1 am, I would nap from 4 until 6pm to make up for the short night and early morning. If my first class wasn't on for some reason I would be so tired that I would find a table in school and sleep on it. I never adjusted and was always exhausted.

Some years back, I took classes in Digital Filmmaking & MultiMedia & the only reason I was able to attend regularly was that there was a schedule of night classes. The school closed permanently before I could graduate or get a degree or anything, but I did get a lot accomplished independently, especially in the months before the closing, when the whole school was sort of imploding.

My mom is an early bird who only needs 5-6 hours of sleep. I’m a night owl who needs at least eight hours, preferably nine. But I lived the early bird life for so long that it affected my bowels (they literally do not function for the first few hours after waking up... Unless I get to sleep during the day and wake up at night, then the browns race me to the superbowl). Living with and working for mom and her husband has been difficult. They need the help, but I struggle to do basic math in the mornings, so construction became harder and harder instead of easier and easier. They finally let me swap to my own schedule, but only for a few days at a time and then it’s back to “omg we need you to wake up early again it’s just for this entire week.” And that shit fucks me for two or three weeks after. It’s so much more productive to just wake up at midday, jump out of bed feeling great, and fix/paint/organize around the house. But generally I’m left stumbling around all mornings, barely hitting my stride after lunch, and by evening I’m so tired that it’s a struggle to shower, so hardly anything gets done.

waking up at 5am Monday through Friday. Even though my internal clock is telling me to sleep until 11am or 11:30. That's 6-6 1/2 hrs per day of sleep deprivation. You add that up & that's roughly 30 hrs of sleep dep by the end of the work week. No wonder I feel exhausted by Tues or Wed. Can we stop this insanity & create jobs that have both day & night shifts? 3pm to 11pm would be great for me.
