The SINGLE most under rated rock band of the 80's. Full stop!!!! The guitar riffs of Brad Gillis and Jeff Watson were other worldly.

Yeah they’re pretty amazing for sure! I just recently found out that Brad played with Ozzy after Randy died in the crash but fans didn’t think it was a good fit probably cause they were used to and probably mourning Randy’s death also.

I still have my original concert t-shirt. From 1985 😂 I was 18. One of the best things about growing up in farm country with non-existent organized entertainment was that If you wanted to go on a “real” date, it almost always meant a 2 hour drive to the big city to a nice dinner and to see a rock band. No cell phones, no batshit craziness, just a lighter, some cherry vodka 🤪and your friends was all you needed. If I could be stuck in time, I would definitely pick the 80s.

@@davidcarr5239 David he left the band when the work slowed down. Then he worked for VH playing keys under the stage or on the stage in a black tent. Then he played for a lot of people like Whitney Houston and CSN and then Bruce Springsteen. Then back to VH. Then played with them for a total of 24 years and retired a few years ago after he had been on the road since 1974. I got to be taping The Midnight Special on the same day as him. Hello mfitzster, I wanted to write in with what might seem a strange compliment for Your brother Alan. I'm a keyboard player and went bald pretty quick. I've always worn fedoras on stage, and stacked several keyboards, and Alan was a huge influence sound-wise and visually as well. I always got a kick how there were 4 guys with the metal hair, and then Fitz just playing the keys with the classy looking fedora on. Again please take this as a compliment. They really should have gotten more appreciation from the media back in the day. Thanks again D
@ejsanch3 жыл бұрын
@@mfitzster funny how Van Halen didn't get to #1 without keyboards, and their top 2 hits with Hagar had keys too. (Billboard Top 100, not just niche charts). In a tent? Back stage? I had no idea. I just figured they played with pre recorded keyboard tracks and it always made me think less of the band because of it. I'm happy to know they actually employed someone to play the parts! But man, talk about being treated like the help! He probably had a non discourse agreement that he couldn't even say he was playing with them!

Why are so many KZbin commentators using the word "underrated" ? These guys didn't sell bad at all, did they ? They filled concert halls with ease didn't they ? They must have had plenty of one night stands, no ? Their career still goes on, don't it ? So what does "underrated" in that case means ? They are vibrant and inventive guitar players, but they aren't Yngwie Malmsteen or Ritchie Blackmore to name but these, something which they surely would acknowledge themselves. And ... they don't have to be, in order to make this band reaching very high levels. But to call them "underrated" is like saying that Ian Paice is an underrated drummer. What do we have to do to make them less "underrated", name boulevards and plaza's after them, erect statues, have "Gillis & Watson Music Schools" ?
@Nfarce10 жыл бұрын
Benoit Vanhees - "Underrated" means not as popular and successful as they should have been. Like, say, Def Leppard was. Take a breath dude. I fully agree they were underrated but they are still one of my favorite all time "big hair" rock bands of the 1980s while growing up watching MTV. And this song was their first video on it yet it didn't even crack the top 30 in the Billboard Hot 100. THAT is the point of underrated.

Summer of 1982, 12 years old, riding my Huffy bike to the community pool, Walkman headphones on, jamming to this song... Had the world by the shorthairs.

Saw Brad Gillis on tour as the replacement for Randy Rhoads on one of the Ozzy tours back in 1983 . Nobody can surpass Randy , for sure , but Gillis held his own .

Brings back some great memories of being a teenager and hearing this being played on the radio when music was good.

I saw them a year later at the Scope in Norfolk, VA. Starship opened for them. Awesome concert!
I met these guys in Huntsville, AL in '83 when they opened up for Quiet Riot. Brad Gillis was the biggest ass I'd ever met...Jack Blades was a super cool guy, nice as hell and funny as shit...you could tell he appreciated his fans.

Yep! when we were there... we didn't realize we were living right smack in the middle of the good old days. You blink your eyes, and you're 30 years into the future. Those were the simple days.

They really are a great band still! Saw them in early 00's and again in 2013 and they were great both times. High energy, good vocals and talented musicians. Lot of great tunes!

Fun fact: NIGHT RANGER guitarist Brad Gillis, who took on the pressure-packed job back in 1982 of replacing Randy Rhoads after OZZY OSBOURNE's virtuoso guitarist died in a plane crash. He was later replaced by Jake E. Lee who was later replaced by Zack Wylde.

And the ONLY reason he was replaced was he wanted to do the night ranger thing.. Ozzy wanted him to stay in thee WORST way but brad said thanks but no thanks, I'm going with my boys!! And thank god be did coz night ranger would not be the band it STILL is today without Brad Gillis!! The guy plays the most difficult riffs effortlessly! In my opinion there is only one other guitar player that can hold a candle to him and that's Eddie Van Halen!

Forgot how tall Gillis was and is. The synth is so awesome in this!!
