Met Jeff Watson at a guitar clinic once. Genuinely nice guy. He took the time afterwards to show a few people some of his techniques one-on-one. Thing I remember most about Brad Gillis was that he played for Ozzy after Randy Rhodes was killed.

Gillis & Watson are the best guitar duo you don't know. And that's a shame.

I used to see them at Franco’s all night affair when I would sneak in under age before and right after they became famous

My friends and I saw Night Ranger in Rolla MO in about 1989. The concert was general admission. We got there pretty early and we were in the front row. They were so awesome all of us were totally blown away. They played their stuff really great. We boosted Matt up in the air and he grabbed the whammy bar on Brad Gillis' guitar. Brad waved his finger at him and gave him a few stainless steel guitar picks.

Jeff Watson is a MONSTER Player. Legend has it he is THE ONE who started the eight fingering technique on the guitar. And on one sunny day he meets his good friend Eddie Van Halen. He shows off his technique to EVH who asked if he could copy that technique. And that ladies and gentlemen is why EVH played the guitar like a lap guitar. Not wanting to step on Jeff's toes and copy him directly he turned the guitar on its back.
@JoeR2033 жыл бұрын
I've never seen EVH use 8 fingers for tapping.

@@JoeR203 my good man...please search on youtube.."Van Halen Live in Montreal". Fast forward to the 1:10 mark (one hour and ten minutes). He places his guitar parallel to the floor and plays his version of the Eight finger technique. I've seen him do that live myself. Thanks.

This is a great live version! The guitars sound way heavier, especially during the verses with the palm muting and squeals.. love it!

That late 80s era Night Ranger guitar tones were killer! Cranking the gain, mids and overdrive to the max on the amps and pedals really does make it the perfect metal sound.
@marlonmcdonaldproject6004 ай бұрын
@@jefftracy3771 Definitely has a bit more of a metal edge to the sound, and it works nicely 👌🏽 still fits within their style. I prefer it over the studio version to be honest.

Only when you've seen a band that you love, can you truly appreciate if they have it,...or if they don't?! I judge a band 'live', doesn't make it right, just my personal thing,...

No auto-tune. Genuine as they come. Loved them live. Woudn't mind seeing them live again.
