NIGHT SHIFT in Step Down (the place after ICU) | Interpreting EKG/ECGs & Chest Tubes | livinglikelee

Tonight I am starting night 1/4 night shifts as a nursing student on a specialized respiratory unit. Tonight, with my preceptor we are in the Step-Down unit, which is the unit patients are sent after they've been "stepped down" from the Intensive Care Unit (ICU)!
I'm learning more about interpreting ECG/EKGs. I'm getting more comfortable with the assessments and care required for a chest tube!
7 days remain till the end of this BScN degree and I couldn't be more excited!

2 patients!!! That would be a dream shift for me. I’m almost 8wks into PCU nursing as a new grad. We have 4 and at times 5 on our unit 😩. And the acuity of them are so complex. I guess it’ll season me well though.

Absolutely! Time management and prioritization is probably the biggest things I learned with heavier patient assignments. This particular unit only happened to have I believe max space for 3 patients (4 had COVID not been a factor). Best of luck as a new grad!
